The Manchester United Thread

What a year it's been for Rashford. From playing U18s to starting in FA cup finals to England cap and in Euro squad.

Herrera on Jose.
Herrera became the first United player to publicly endorse Mourinho as a future United manager in February, claiming he found it 'funny' the former Chelsea coach's style of play was unsuitable for United.
The Basque's future was said to be in doubt had Louis van Gaal stayed and Herrera has welcomed Mourinho's arrival.
“Working with Mourinho is a unique opportunity to work with one of the best in the world,” he told Spanish radio.
“He has a widely acclaimed method of working and I want to learn and improve. I consider his arrival to be a one-off opportunity for me to continue to develop and grow.”
When a Marca journalist suggested to Herrera that Mourinho was incompatible with United, Herrera disagreed.
He said: "I find that funny. Let's see, Mourinho played at Chelsea with Cesc (Fabregas), Willian, Oscar, (Eden) Hazard and Diego Costa. There was only (Nemanja) Matic as a defensive midfielder. That's not an attractive style of play?
"Or at Madrid, where his side scored a record amount of goals in one year?
"And aside from that he is a coach who soaks up the pressure on the players, someone who prefers to take the heat so that his players can be relaxed.
"I only know that his Chelsea, with all the difficulty that comes with it, won the Premier League last season with four weeks to spare."

Good to see Schweinsteiger included in the Euro squad. Now I have a reason to cheer the Germans.

Also he is back in the training with the German NT.

I'm very confident that he will be a big player for us next season. He is a great player and will play under proper manager. Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin, Herrera is a very good midfield selection alongside Carrick. If we can include one more midfielder or even play Fosu Mensah in the midfield then even better.

Jose will try and beat

Teams from 20th-10th = 3-0
Teams from 9th-5th = 2-0
Teams from 4th-2nd = 1-0

54 goals, 19 games. Decent return :p

(Dont check the math, its 1am and im knackered)

Chelsea scored 73 goals during PL title winning season 2014-15.

So if I add and try to beat everyone away 1-0.. its about right :p

Will be a key player under Mourinho a midfield 3 of him and Gomes and Schniederlin would be quality with Fosu, Herrera, Pereira, Rooney in the mix we would be good for options add Carrick if he signs new deal.

Apparently he asked to leave due to personal reasons. Sevilla have said no he has contract with them till 2020 and he only wants to leave to join another club and no other reason. They confirm he can buy out his contract in an agreement or he has a clause clubs can pay to get him. It is 5m euros. Everyone reporting on this now won't post anymore tweets as don't won't to upset anybody.

DoF rumours seem like BS, would Mourinho even accept working with one? I know he had one in Chelsea, but this is different as United were clearly desperate to get Jose on board.

Would they want to work with him and his attitude seems just as valid a question?

He's had one at every club he's been at. He's not interested in the finances as much, and a DoF doesn't stop him making his specific choices. It does mean the club can carry of with general targeting.

United wanting a DoF isn't so much linked to Jose as to a general indication Woodward hasn't been getting it right.

Eh? Jose didn't fall out with any of his DoFs bar Emenalo, whose choices have shown up thus far to be susbstandard.

He had his problems at Chelsea with Arnesen and the Russian his first go around.

But it's more his general attitude the past year I was alluding to and how that may of damaged his rep/ hindered him right here and now.

For the most part they got on. It was only when Roman began interfering that it got frosty, ie personally bringing in Shevchenko.

Think people are vastly overplaying the last year when it comes to Mourinho tbh, when you compare it to his career. When you listen to Zlatan, who played with him for one year, it's clear it means nothing for example.

Yeah, probably not. He's still a World Class manager regardless who's only a year removed from being an English champion when all said and done.

Just an interesting one to watch develop early and I can see why anyone would be asking the question after how it rolled last year more off the pitch than on it.

Pep forced out an extremely popular and excellent doctor at Bayern. No one hesistates if he says he wants them. Because's he's frankly one of the best. As long as they think he is one of the best they will come.

Umm, pretty sure he had power struggle with Valdano in Madrid, no?

Not over players. That was Madrid being, well, Madrid. Jose didn't back down, and in typical form hit back viciously. Neither come off well from it. But that was down to classic board interference. Valdano wasn't a DoF. Not that it stopped him interfering with transfers.

Emenalo is the one I would say he fell out with. Never really fell out with Arnesen, more that Arnesen went along with Roman's meddling.

I would worry about Woodward's medding, but he's so in awe of Jose, he'll simply throw money instead.
