The Manchester United Thread

Smalling was very good last season. With a few errors in there too. Mad to argue otherwise really. Defending for the most part is a team game and we didn't do enough of that last season. Key it's creating a defensive unit. We were not physical enough at times. Bailly is raw and aggressive with a high ceiling.
The thing that intrigues me maybe not a problem for now but in the near future is the handling of Tuanzebe,Williams,Warren and Ollesunde all top top class potential CBs coming through at the same time I think a year between them all. And I seriously think they all have the required potential, mentality and qualities to make it here and be potential starters in the future.

You're right, i completely forgot about these two. It's strange that we would offer that much money for Ramos and simply give up trying to sign a top cb after that went to ****.

He was looking for someone to partner Smalling who was better, and stopped once he couldn't find one. Jose has gone the other way, the way we'd normally do it, find a rising defender on the up and mould them.

I don't think Van Gaal has ever tried to sign another centre back for us. I could be wrong tho.
Off the top of my head, i would say Manolas or Koulibaly. Even Marquinhos has a lot of experience and it's unhappy at the moment in PSG.
With our financial muscle, no top cb should be out of the question. We are trying to sign Pogba, for god's sake.
Manolas is trying to sign a new deal with Roma tho.

Aye, but the current defence is still relatively young, be hard to them break through for a while. Not even considering McNair and TFM

Very true are defence atm is very young. Just my opinion but I would like us to keep as is now then maybe in a year or 2 and a few loans for the ones I mentioned. Then maybe look at moving on Rojo and Jones if he can't stay fit then look to bring them through. Feel bad for Mc Nair played very well when he was thrown in at the deep end in his breakthrough season then never to be seen after 1 bad game. Hope TFM plays as a CM :)

Been speaking to a few regular youth followers and they seem to think that Hossein Zamani from Ajax is close to joining the club.

Our CB options going into the season are alright, lets face it no one really would of gone for Bailly if we were honest before we signed him. Most people wanted someone like Manolas/Marquinhos or other names that were mentioned.. Bailly was never one of them.

I know nothing about Bailly but he's a young CB partnering Smalling who has a great season but my issue is, if Smalling gets injured and has another one of his in/out of the team seasons, we are going to have a makeshift CB pairing a lot of the time with little experience.

In an ideal world you would want another specialist CB.. with some experience.. Bonucci is awesome but not gettable. Someone like Benatia would be a nice option to have fighting for a spot.

God no I would rather have Skirtl than Benatia he's been truly terrible. I agree what your saying about no one choosing Bailly but Mourinho obviously has been scouting him and was 1 of his 4 key targets.

4 or 5 papers tomorrow running with the Pogba to Utd story for 100m pounds and a 5 year contract. Not that it means anything!

Was class for Roma though, been in out of Bayern team so can't really gain form/confidence. For a cutprice CB option I'd give him a go again, as seems Bayern want rid.

Point is, we really could do with getting another CB with some pedigree, I mean if I was Mourinho one of my first priorities would of been that, I'm excited to see how Bailly does but he's young and inexperienced.

Actually think Benatia has agreed to sign for someone already. Was very good at Roma tbf. Maybe Mourinho thinks Smalling is good enough to be the leading defender. We have plenty of experience to be honest at the back. And I've never been confident about Jonrs staying fit but under Mou and Faria I actually think he could plus he's been beasting in his fitness and training lately. Bailly may be young but he's played plenty enough games against some of the worlds best and at the AFCON. He was simply amazing against Barca and Madrid in both ties home and away especially against Ronnie. Maybe we may still get one Mou has not ruled it out he said if a player leaves he will be replaced. Plus we have 4 quality players knocking on the first team door. Can't wait for next Saturday ! :)

This could be on!!!

Manchester United is planning to offer 120M€ (!) for Pogba after Euro2016. Juventus always said they DON'T want to sell him. Things have changed (via @DiMarzio)

Roma president also said Benatia was sold for being a "poisonous liar" so if he doesn't get his way, which he may not with starting then he may not be a player you want

Woody's like a man possessed lol.

Our wages must be astronomical! Not that I care as it's money being spent but still rather than Glazers pocketing, the point still stands though!
