This wins

On Memphis, he's shattered mentally, but he has the technical and physical attributes to be a great Mourinho player, for me he deserves at least one more season, if he listens to Jose he will make massive leaps, and we still need quality cover and competition for Martial on the left.

Darmain and Fabinho would make for a monstrous right hand side. The fact that he covers DM works for a Jose squad of about 23 too. Sell Valencia and get him in personally. Two 6ft right backs. Classic Jose.

Fabinho is strong on the ball, a threat in the final third and can defend competently. What a sign it would be. We would have a left side with Shaw and Martial, and a right side with Mikh and Fabinho. Mouthwatering.

Yeah except Mourinho doesn't like having 2 attack minded fullbacks on his team at one time in the same XI. It was the case at chelsea. Ivanovic was the attack minded one meanwhile azpilicueta was more on the defensive side.

In our situation, shaw is the attack minded Fullback so the other MUST be defensive so it can't be fabinho. He'll most likely favor darmian. It was the same with real Madrid as well, Marcelo attacks more, arbeloa defends more.

Fabinho fits the mould of a defensive full back who can get forward. Like darmian.

Fabinho had more tackles per game than Darmian last season, although the numbers are pretty close. Fabinho is an accomplished defender.

Really hope these Fabinho rumours are true. 6"2, good at penalties, quality in both attack & defence; I'd pick him over Darmian any day.

As for Memphis, apart from the sitter I don't think he played badly yesterday. He needs to improve, but the idea that he should be sold just because Martial at present is better, is ridiculous. There's no guarantee Martial won't suffer a dip in form, or pick up a major injury.

Memphis was really bad. Id wasnt just the sitter. Like i said, when Mkhitaryan played him in, he could have either played it first time across goal, or get the ball under control (like he did) and play it to the runner at the edge of the box. He did neither. He ****** about on the ball, allowing the Wigan players to get back for a start, then was eventually closed down and lost the ball. And this was against Wigan. What more of a confidence boost do you need? Let the ball run to your left foot and its a tapa in into an open net. Uses his right and ***** it up. Gets played in behind and does neither of the 2 correct options he had and loses the ball. Thats without all the other times he had the ball and did **** all.

As it stands, id rather have Young on the left. For the last 2 years he's done absolutely nothing wrong. 2 seasons ago he was our best player by a mile. Last season he played left and right wing, and left and right wing back. Never really had a bad game. He did his job. Even as a defender where he didnt really have any experience. But for the last 4 years people have been saying sell Young. I was one of those myself 3 or 4 years ago, But the last 2 years he's been one of your best players consistantly, in any position he's played.

Im all for giving Memphis another year. He's obviously got the talent if he gets the confidence, but if he cant do the simplest of things against Wigan in a friendly, what chance has he got in a proper game? Young was even brought on as a striker a couple of times and scored a goal, and generally played well. Memphis strikes me as a Nani mk2. Obvious talent, but is so inconsistent its unbelievable. Seeing Nani in the Euro's, and how his game has matured being away from us, I'd have been happy taking a punt on him again. While with us it was like he thought he was Ronaldo. But at the Euro's he basically carried Portugal. He stepped up and did the simple things rather than think he's Ronaldo and his game has improved massively just by doing the simple thing.

The best players in the world do the right thing at the right time. Yesterday Mata got that ball and he played it across to Keane. It was the right thing to do and got the team a goal. I'm 99% certain if that was Memphis in that situation, he would have blasted it a goal looking to score and got **** all. Thats the difference. I really hope Memphis pulls his head out of his **** and does well. But he needs to stop trying too hard and forcing it, and just do the simple things.

I dont think thats really true. Azpilicueta got/gets forward a lot. Its just for some reason his crosses was hardly ever converted so he didnt have many assists. Or even goals. On paper, assists and goals look great, but that doesnt tell the story (like any other data). If you look at it purely as assists and goals, Ivanovic wins hands down. And from that data, you would assume that Ivanovic gets forward a lot and assists and scores, and Azpilicueta doesnt because he hasnt got many goals and assists (if any). But if you watch the games, Azpilicueta is constantly up that left side and attacks pretty much as much as Ivanovic does.

Darmian was very attacking at Torino. Off both the right and left hand side. He started last season well, as did Shaw. But then Van Gaal's "philosophy" took over and Darmian suffered in a way. Then got injured. Our system pretty much changed when Shaw got injured. But Darmian was still solid, even when he had to keep it defensive when Shaw got injured. But when he got injured himself and was out for a while, and the team had that many injuries we completely changed our game, when he came back he didnt fit.

Basically every player from last season needs a clean slate. Because we could all see they was being instructed to play a certain way. Im expecting most players to get back to some kind of form if they are given the freedom to do what they do best.

You seem to be forgetting about a guy called David De Gea.

Obviously not forgot about De Gea. Hes been doing what he's been doing consistently for the last 4 years. He's our number one and plays every game. But 2 years ago, practically every united fan wanted Young gone, but then that season, when he was in the team out of nowhere, and a massive threat every game and playing really well, then yes he was by far our best player.

I like Young and don't think that we should sell him but there is now way he was our best player two years ago. For him being a massive threat every game Memphis got more goals and assists in less minutes and you aren't a fan of him.

Lad I used to work with from Manchester (half) joked the end of the season that you only gave Smalling the 'Player of the Year' last year because it was getting embarrassing giving it De Gea year after year after year.

If Juventus are in talks with Higuain there is no way that deal happens without Pogba sale.

We didn't have Memphis 2 seasons ago?

I've seen some people say juventus may send some players as well as cash. Even then it would probably stretch them

Pogba would bring the ultimate balance to Utd I feel, strengthening an area that needed proper addressing for some years now; signing an injury prone Schweinsteiger at the wrong side of 30 doesn't count! I'm personally not as worried as the media or some fellow fans are in the regards to the price tag, it's how football is nowadays; just say it like this "They're paying 2x Raheem Sterlings for Pogba" - makes it sound like a bargain.

Carrick or Schneiderlin (or both, depends) sitting in the middle of the park as ball winning midfielders/distributing play, also covering the full backs if needing to (particularly Luke Shaw) giving them the license to bomb forward, similarly to what Gareth Barry did effectively a couple of seasons ago Everton (Baines/Coleman). Pogba as our box-to-box/roaming playmaker, just a beast in general, given more attacking privileges by a more defensive minded midfielder. Mkhitaryan, who I watched live a few days ago against Wigan, showcased exactly what he's about! He's a little bit of a Frank Lampard with more assists in him, or a Thomas Muller with more technique, it's tricky to pinpoint the best analogy, but one thing's for sure, he's a top player!

Ibrahimovic up top represents experience & goal scoring prowess mixed with youth, pace & flair with the likes of Martial, Rashford, Lingard & Depay as possible link up men, with no doubt having Wayne Rooney to play a big part too.

All in all, if we sign Pogba, I envisage a good season!

P.S, am I the only one who is sitting on the fence in regards to Darmian? Shaw is a top left back, Smalling has sculpted into a fine centre half, this Bailly lad should be decent, but Darmian for me is a little 'meh'.. putting his decent FM performances aside.

Don't think Darmian is meh. He was one of the best FBs in Europe the season before we signed him. His is defensively solid and his technique is very good and good tactically. He was very good first few months for us then got injured and then LVG kept putting him in and out the team and leaving him with no consistency which is needed in a first season trying to get use to a new league/team. And people who doubt his attacking play obviously never watched him much if at all when he was at Torino.
