The Manchester United Thread

Ball-Winning Mid wise, which we so badly need in the summer, I am just not sure who we are after. I can not see it being some big signing so it might be someone unexpected. I have not seen Sven or Lars Bender play but maybe they are worth looking at unless there is better without spending too big realistically.

I'm not worried about the big signing. I just want it to be an effective signing. Godcubed speaks highly of Isla, but I've not watched him enough to have an opinion. One of the Benders could be a good buy, though more likely to get Lars from Leverkusen than Sven from Dortmund.

Agreed, I know there is very little chance of it happening but I have been so impressed with Tiote, makes you wonder where our scouts are.

Only thing with Tiote is I'd be scared every time he plays that we'll finish the game with ten men, very good player but picks up a lot of cards.

Gief Fellaini. We practically gave them Gibson for free, so they owe us.

Fair point, but Fergie could sort that out, he is an absolute colossal in that Newcastle midfield, I can't think of many better than him for the job he does. He is an extremely important player for them and I doubt it would be possible to get him, but if the chance ever did arise I would jump at it in a heartbeat, the problem is we need that kind of player sooner rather than later.

Rumours that Pogba has decided to leave. Only reported on Goal.com & the Daily Mail so far, so I'll remain sceptical for now.

I think he's their top scorer this season. Also Wenger and Redknapp are after him so he must be good.

I assumed he was a striker, but if he's got 15 goals from midfield then I'd be interested in seeing him at United.

It's what has cost us in the major games all season, bossed out by sheer power. Most of our losses have come down to being overpowered through the middle.

That's what I thought too. Would be good ratio for striker of his age, but for a midfielder it's great. I think Everton would be best move for him.

I absolutely agree with Mike that it has to be an effective signing rather than a big one! I am not worried until SAF is still at United. We've virtually stayed in the Title Race because of him. If city had Kompany injured for 5 months then there wouldn't even be a Title Race. Whenever SAF might leave he has to insure that he leaves a team which is capable of challenging for years! He should not make a mistake like Sir Matt Busby who left a team which was relatively on a decline. I am not saying he'll make that mistake because he knows the importance of this better than anybody!

I wouldn't blame Fergie if United do start to decline, its the Glazer's who haven't put nearly enough investment in United over the years. If United are to bring in the needed players this summer, its all dependent on the Glazers financial backing, and based on the last 5 years in which United haven't spent nearly as much as the other clubs their size (Real M, Barcelona, Bayern, Inter etc) I wouldn't be over optimistic of them pumping a lot of money into the club.

Personally I'm amazed that Fergie has managed to stay as one of the top clubs in europe up until this season, with the way United have been run by the Glazers.

Could not agree with you more mate! Personally I'd go for Sven and I reckon we could get him.....we lack a ball winner in my opinion.....and him, or his brother are two of the best around :)

Actually the point about Glazer investment is an interesting one considering Stoke and Aston Villa have greater spend than Utd in the past 5 years. Giggs and Scholes have given sterling performances time and time again, but with Fletcher a likely retirement from the game if his illness won't clear up, the Glazers have to spend some money. Fergie definitely has a lot of credit this season whatever happens with the last game.

W know he tried last season, and its even more vital this season. Investment CANNOT be put off this time.

I'd love to know what's available in the transfer kitty after all these frugal years and strong finishes. Has it been put towards the debt the Glazers put onto the club? I'm pretty poorly informed when it comes to the Utd situation these days, I know they're still quite far ahead in terms of revenue, but expenditure?

Money is still there, not so much a case of budget to be honest, although we spent upwards of 50million last year. But we waste a **** of a lot servicing interest on the debt. Will know for sure how much there is after the next set of figures.

What's happening with the singapore stock exchange flotation? Isn't that meant to raise enough to pay off most of our debt?

Seen a few United fans posting on Twitter and stuff, ******** about Liverpool fans. Some seemed to think we were chanting about the Munich disaster, but infact we were not. We were chanting about Bayern beating Chelsea.

Thought I'd clear this up just incase.
