The Manchester United Thread

Actually the point about Glazer investment is an interesting one considering Stoke and Aston Villa have greater spend than Utd in the past 5 years. Giggs and Scholes have given sterling performances time and time again, but with Fletcher a likely retirement from the game if his illness won't clear up, the Glazers have to spend some money. Fergie definitely has a lot of credit this season whatever happens with the last game.

They have got away with such lucky circumstances its unbelievable. Its very rare to have even have 1 world class veteran let alone 2 and you could throw Van Der Sar into the mix as well, he was cheap and an amazing veteran, add to that the amazing man management skills of SAF and well you have a team thats not Europes best competing very well against its best.

This cannot go on as we all know that once Giggs, Scholes and SAF are officially out the team needs to have had enough significant investment to cover the loss, because outside of maybe Pep (With barca, no one knows for sure it could work elsewhere) and Mourinho, there isnt really anyone who can hold a squad of players together so well.

On the topic of investment, Im really excited for the prospect of maybe Kagawa and not Hazard, we dont need anymore wingers regardless of how much talent the lad has and I most certainly agree with you Mike, one of the Benders would be fabulous but perhaps maybe Martinez? (Probably to expensive, but a fan can dream right?)

I'm not worried about the big signing. I just want it to be an effective signing. Godcubed speaks highly of Isla, but I've not watched him enough to have an opinion. One of the Benders could be a good buy, though more likely to get Lars from Leverkusen than Sven from Dortmund.

Lars signed a new deal keeping him at Leverkusen till 2017 so we won't be getting him. Fellaini isn't a bad shout at all though. He can play a number of roles in midfield. Would be like buying 2 or 3 players in one.

What's happening with the singapore stock exchange flotation? Isn't that meant to raise enough to pay off most of our debt?

Does a bit of both, and can make the Glazers some money.

Seen a few United fans posting on Twitter and stuff, ******** about Liverpool fans. Some seemed to think we were chanting about the Munich disaster, but infact we were not. We were chanting about Bayern beating Chelsea.

Thought I'd clear this up just incase.

Guess there is a first time for you to be signing about Munich and not taking the **** out of our dead.

God, I hope Fletch comes back. Apparently he hopes to be ready for the start of the season. He was always one of my favourite United players.

I speak highly of Isla for a reason. I think he'd be absolutely perfect for United. Someone who is versatile in the most absolute sense - as in, truly comfortable as if he were a natural in a number of positions, unlike for example Park or Milner who can 'fill in' very well - and is energetic, a good tackler, works hard and is technically sound. Moreover, Udinese are well used to selling top players, and won't be averse to letting him go for the right price.

When I suggested the Benders to you I'd forgotten that they hadn't made the CL, which makes Lars an even better target. He's not quite the same as Isla, being less mobile, but he's stronger and more dominating.

It's what has cost us in the major games all season, bossed out by sheer power. Most of our losses have come down to being overpowered through the middle.

Need variation. Scholes/Carrick works fine for games against teams who don't pressure in midfield, the Stokes and the Villas, where they sit back and look to counter rather than press. Against the bigger teams, there's a need for more mobility and physical presence in order to counter their higher tempo.

looks like great tallent for future both footed, reads game well, sits in front of back four and looks like dont mind getting forward aswell. good long range passes to and can shoot from distance never heard of this lad before.
he is my friend, we go in the same class. great lad! :D
exactly, i think he is what we miss. he turned 18 in february...I just hope his talent doesnt get wasted! Its hard to break through Partizans first team, because here in Serbia everything is ****** up... Hope some more United fans will give me their opinion on him!

I once said Athletic is average team with two class players and one amaizing talent. But thats it. Our midfield is a lot better, but we lack mobile midfielder who can press and has positional sence. We are not far away from best clubs this season.

Well that's just not true. Javi Martinez, Iker Muniain, Fernando Llorente, Ander Herrera, Markel Susaeta, Andoni Iraola, Ander Iturraspe, Gorka Iraizoz and Oscar De Marcos are all hugely talented players.

I could argue with that. Yes. Llorente and Martinez are great and Muniain is phenomenal talent. Other players are good and they fits Bielsa tactic, but they're not as good as people are saying.

Whilst Paul Scholes will stay
at Old Trafford for another
season, he will have to be
replaced eventually.
Manchester United are
looking at Udinese midfielder
Kwadwo Asamoah in their
bid to improve their central
midfield, according to Italian
website CalcioMercato.
Whilst traditionally a strong
area of the team for the Red
Devils, this season has shown
the gap in quality between
Man Utd and other top tier
sides – in the Premier League
and Europe.
Manchester United were
humbled by FC Basel at
home in the UEFA
Champions League, and
Athletic Bilbao in the UEFA
Europa League – with both
sides’ increased mobility in
the middle of the park a key
factor.
Sir Alex Ferguson called Paul
Scholes out of retirement to
great effect for much of the
season, but against arch
rivals Manchester City when
it mattered, the movement
and intelligence of Yaya
Toure, Samir Nasri and David
Silva proved a key difference.
Though the game ended just
1-0, Man Utd failed to get a
shot on target in a limp
display.
Controlling the midfield is
often the key element in
games, and it is no surprise
that Ferguson is looking at
his options.
Asamoah would not be the
preferred choice for many
United fans, but the Ghana
international might be
cheaper than those that are
– a possible key factor under
the Glazer regime.
The 23 year-old is a cultured
passer of the ball and a
highly capable dribbler. His
concentration and positional
discipline are also great
assets.
CalcioMercato estimate a bid
of around £8m would land
Asamoah’s signature.
Whether he would prove an
inspired move at Manchester
United – or another
Kleberson – remains to be
seen.

Man utd reserves completed double tonight with a win in peno shoot out against aston villa, first half was pretty much non event with no real chances then second half was end to end with both teams wasting clear chances especially villa, sam johnstone was amazing in peno shootout with 3 top saves. Other mentions robbie brady looked like a playerwho has benifeted from 1st team football changed the game when came on in 2nd half with marnick vermijl with some quality runs from RB and good defensive play, the usuall names keane, fryers, cole etc were all solid and had good games but my man of match would have to go to ryan tunnicliffe in CM broke up attacks and made some good attacking runs to help in attack had couple of good long range efforts looks like could be good player think read will go out on loan next seas definate player in the fletcher mould!

Really exciting to see Reserves doing well. If Pogba finally decides to leave I think Tunnicliffe should go to our summer tour and see what he can do and Will Keane will benifit hugely by going on loan to a PL or a Championship club!

I guess Manchester United in an effort to save money will be wearing table cloths as jerseys.

Just kidding.
