Mourinho clarified only ‘Martial was out’. So believe him if you will.

He forgot to mention Phil Jones, although he can be forgiven for that since Jones appears to be permanently injured.

New signing Alex Fojticek played for Slovakia u17s in a 4-0 win against San Marino and a 4-3 win against Northern Ireland in the u17 Euro qualifiers. Under 16 Dylan Levitt played in all 3 of Wales u17s qualifiers and had an assist against San Marino. Ethan Galbraith who looks will join next summer has played in both of Northern Ireland u17s qualifiers even though he only turned 15 in May.

Listen I love Rooney and he has been great over the years but he just does not warrant starting. If Mourinho picked a settled team
some like

DDG
Darmian-Bailly-Smalling-Shaw
Carrick
Pogba-Herrera
Mky-Zlatan- Then either Rashford or Martial on the left I bet my months wages that we would be seeing a massive improvement within 3-4 weeks.

I don't mind you saying he shouldn't start, that's a perfectly normal personal opinion, I just don't like United supporters calling him a "clown" and what not's, I doubt many scousers referred to Gerrard as anything like that in his declining years. Irregardless of whether or not he's in form, he's still a club legend, Mourinho selects him so it's him you should be taking it out on if anyone.

That's different though. Gerrard has never been this bad, and even when he wasn't world class anymore, he still pulled his weight on the pitch up to his final year.

Meanwhile, Rooney has been rubbish 3 years now, and what's worse, he keeps using his buttbuddies in the media to defend himself. Can you really blame the fans that they run out of patience and finally have enough of his ****?

wayne was a great player but imo lost his way for one reason or another. He simply hasnt got the drive or desire to do it at a club like united anymore.Im sure he still has a part to play in the squad but his time has come and gone.

I saw press conference today and Mourinho was surprisingly positive. Which is good considering the pressure and he hasn't gone into a mardy streak.

City have started like a house on fire, but when things go rocky (it does for everyone at some point) it will be interesting to see how they respond and how Pep copes.

We need to win this weekend though, if we were to go 9 points behind that would be a lot at any stage.

The only thing with City is in the past if Aguero was injured they hardly scored. If Kompany was injured they conceded goals. If they had both out at the same time, they hardly won. Throw Yaya into that aswell a few seasons ago if he was out. But now their threat is coming from midfield. Pep has even got Sterling playing well, thats without De Bruyne and Silva. So City "should" be strong all season regardless of injuries. And they are still learning. Havent even hit 3rd gear yet in my opinion.

You're forgetting Mourinho has no choice in selecting him, he has to play politics within the squad. All because of the massive influence Rooney has within the squad.

You would think given Mourinho's spell at Chelsea, and having a point to prove, he wouldn't let something like this cloud his judgement. His priority should be to get us winning again and fighting for the league. That includes picking the best side to maximise performance, not shoe horning players into a lineup because of influence and politics. I thought Mourinho had more of a backbone to make those decisions rather than be influenced in his decision making.

This isn't any random player. This is your Club captain and someone with huge influence in the dressing room. Plus the ****** media would have a field day if united lost without Rooney in the side. Mourinho has to play this correctly, otherwise it could go wrong real quick.

I think you're all doing Mourinho a massive disservice and ignoring the glaringly obvious to me ..... That he actually likes Rooney. He went all out to sign him twice was it? And if anything appeals to Jose and his ego, it's thinking he can turn him around and get him back to what he was.

I might be wrong, but I'll be shocked if Rooney's doesn't play every big game and remain a mainstay of the Utd side all season regardless of when he breaks Charlton's record.

It doesnt matter who he is. If your not performing then you dont deserve a place in the team. Simple as that. We have had plenty of players over the years who have been left out of the team once they are no longer good enough, or dont deserve a starting place.

The media have a field day when we lose regardless of who is in the team. So I wouldnt worry too much about that. Does Mourinho really give a **** what the media thinks? And only today Rooney has said he doesnt give a **** either. Its the media thats calling him for him to be dropped and saying he's not good enough. If he's dropped and we lose, are the media going to say its because Rooney wasnt playing when they have been calling for him to be dropped and saying he's past it? Actually yeh knowing the media they probably would do but its a non point.

Mourinho's job is to win football matches. To do that he needs to pick the players best capable of winning that match and to get the best out of the players. His selection shouldnt be influenced by potential media backlash and picking a players because of sentiment. Its Jose Mourinho not David Moyes. Mourinho dropped John Terry last season because he felt he wasnt good enough. Club captain, influencial in the dressing room. Still did it because he thought the team would do better without him in it. He needs to do the same here.

Therein lies the rub robbo lad. Whatever you, me or anyone else thinks, unless it's just Mourinho digging his heels in and being his usual stubborn *** self; if you take him at face value, then he IS picking what HE deems the best side for Utd to win football matches.

And as you're now tied to him for the foreseeable, and only a handful of games in at that, you have to back his judgement. Whether you agree or disagree. He's your man and he'll stand and fall by his own decisions.

To be fair everybody wanted Rooney 8 or so years ago. Do you think Mourinho is seeing that same player every day in training? Because if he is he's not doing it come kick off. He could be Messi in training, when your relaxed and going through the motions against players you train against day in day out, but when it comes to the match and he's playing like he's wearing concrete boots he's a liability to the team.

If Karius played a few games and he was saving every shot and keeping clean sheets when he plays, but then Klopp keeps playing Mignolet who's a liability, and is blindingly obvious to everyone else that he needs to be dropped, you wouldnt say Klopp is our man and I trust his Judgement. You would be screaming send that **** back to Dortmund lol.
