The Manchester United Thread

Oh come on lads give it a break, football isn't always as simple or as ruthless as that, especially not towards club legends. If Gerrard was a just few appearances/goals/assists whatever off breaking an all time Liverpool record, then Liverpool would definitely try help him achieve it. Would they owe him it? Technically no, but come on it's just a bit of common courtesy for a long lasting servant who was once world class and still has world class ability in certain areas.

Did Republic Of Ireland have to set up that friendly against Oman last month and basically have the players go all out of their way just to try and set Robbie Keane up to score on his last ever appearance? No. Did they have a common bit of courtesy to do it anyway? Yes.

What harm would it do to selectively use his experience throughout the season, and give him game time in the Europa League & Cups? I swear people go over the top about him, it's not as if he's an invalid now, ****** ****.
Spot on

Finally got around to watching that first half again, it's much easier to analyse in hindsight. Honestly, once we got that goal and blew away the "what if it happens again? we can't lose again" nerves, we were absolutely phenomenal. Those "it was only three corners" comments floating around the internet are idiotic, the pressing was superb, Leicester couldn't breathe on the ball for all they had of it, the sharp passing & interplay was in sync, and the confidence of Paul Pogba to get on the ball and run the show is there for all to be seen, anyone notice how disciplined his performance was? Obviously been passing some heed of the critics and analysis. Herrera was excellent in what he did, Mata was terrific, and the fact that he doesn't come too deep like Rooney tends to do, which ultimately leads to not constantly getting in Pogba's way/into Pogba's area when he drifted forward, just makes us a much better & fluent side. Ibrahimovic was terrific, and even though he didn't score or assist, he put in such a shift; dragging defenders out of position, holding the ball up, giving Morgan & Huth a few "I'm here and I'm not afraid to hurt you" messages.

As good a performance as I've seen in Old Trafford since perhaps the time we beat Arsenal 8-2 back in 2011, I think if we had have went out and looked for more goals in that second half we could've got very near that deficit, could've been 6-0 at half time alone (if you consider Ibra's chest & swivel, Rashford's chance on the counter).

That confidence from those couple of back to back wins will gradually build and build and carry on to Thursday night, preserve Pogba, Bailly & Ibra from starting against Zorya, get the win, potentially hammer the last nail on Sparky's coffin by destroying them on Sunday (no disrespect to them, but to win the title you can't drop anymore unexpected points this early in the season) and then bring on Liverpool after the internationals. (touch wood no injuries from now 'til then).

If he can't break into the squad, he doesn't deserve the record. It's that simple.

I personally wouldn't simply gift him those 4 goals, that's for sure, but I can't agree with this, as records are not something you deserve, but something you've worked your **** off for.

After what I've witnessed this weekend agains Leicester, I'd say give Rooney 10-15 mins per game, but nothing more. If he could break the record, I'm happy. If not....same scenario I guess. :D

MANCHESTER UNITED AND LIVERPOOL HAVE IN FACT, HAD VERY SIMILAR STARTS, DESPITE WHAT MANY WOULD THINK

Whilst people have been praising Liverpool left, right and centre, and rightfully so given the manner in which they've won games recently, but realistically, there isn't a great deal of difference between their start & that of Jose Mourinho's new side. That's taking absolutely nothing away nothing from Liverpool's super start, results aside they've looked really good, but my point is that people have exaggerated Manchester United's narrow Manchester derby defeat that could've easily ended up a different way in the second half, and a standard "one of those" away slip up's against Watford in a match that was probably worth losing in hindsight, as it forced Mourinho wake up & smell the coffee in regards to Fellaini & Rooney not suiting the system that best suits us.

We're only 6 games in, but Manchester United & Liverpool have both played two mutual opponents so far; Hull & Leicester, and our performances against both of those sides were actually both very similar.

Liverpool hosted Hull at the weekend, United traveled up there last month, and both sides absolutely destroyed Mike Phelan's outfit, the only difference was Liverpool got that early goal which opened the floodgates and allowed them to win by a handsome margin, putting Hull in an awkward "we have no plan B" situation, before going down to 10 men and completely falling apart. Liverpool and United had a combined 61 shots against Hull alone (Liverpool 31, United 29) with a combined 43 key passes (Liverpool 24, United 19) and when you take into consideration Liverpool were at home & United were away, and Liverpool were playing against 10 men for more than an hour, they were both very even performances all things considered.

Both sides also hosted the champions, Leicester, both winning 4-1. Liverpool having 17 shots, United having 16 in their best performance at Old Trafford since beating Arsenal 8-2 in my opinion. Liverpool played 17 key passes, United playing 12, Liverpool creating 4 "clear cut chances", United creating 3, and considering we had the game wrapped up at half time, having 62.5% of those shots and creating all of those clear cut chances in the first 45, leaving it a matter of controlling and seeing it out in the second half, whereas the Liverpool match was game on for the full 90 practically, makes it very flattering on United's behalf.

And yes, I know not every game is the same despite having the same opponents, but to be honest it's as solid a thing to go on as any when comparing the two side's starts, and considering Klopp has been working with Liverpool almost a year now (looks to have everything nicely gelled in place), whereas Mourinho's been in all of five minutes and is only now starting to figure out his best side to suit our strengths, I find it a little funny how one team can be praised to the moon and back from the media & in general whereas in the other corner, everything has been slightly blown out of proportion.

How Jose Mourinho is beginning to reinvigorate voracious learner Ander Herrera after stifled start at Man Utd #MUFC http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2016/09/26/how-jose-mourinho-is-beginning-to-reinvigorate-voracious-learner/ …

I think most of our squad are still gradually being deprogrammed from Van Gaal's "philosophy" too, which will take time to just become fully fluid with what we're doing, but my word we've made some giant steps already.

I don't agree. I thought Herrera had a great start to his united career but he kept getting injured and benched by Louis for no just reason.

Along the way, he lost form and kept getting benched...lol.

Talk of Mou giving Mata a new contract. Hope it's true! Very good player and underrated by a lot of united fans.

I'd describe him as charismatic, hungry, and confident in his own abilities ;) The man is box office haha. But Klopp's cool, crazy/creepy, but hard to not like!

I'm glad Mata is getting a new contract. I remember when people on here, especially tyton, all said Mata was getting sold.

I said it right from the beginning that it's a very different Juan mata this time around. He also looks like a man on a mission to prove mourinho wrong.
