The Manchester United Thread

True, I just hope we know when to use the alternative option and have pace up front! Zlatan be perfect for deep blocks like Burnley but in the bigger games we have seen so far I would of liked to have more of a counter attacking presence especially vs Liverpool. Plus Rashford deserves some time upfront in his natural position, he was great in some big games there last year!

At the very least you need to adapt and have either Martial or Rashford playing off him in behind and not just from out wide/ inside forward.

He's so easy to defend against on his own now with his lack of movement it's unreal.

You're a centre half who relishes defending and challenges, you'll take this ageing, static version of Ibrahimovic on the downside of his career ANY day of the week in a one-on-one. It's an easy afternoon's work.

A Zlatan with a fast, nippy partner off him, not so much.

Pep has said that he will rotate a lot tonight. And the lads that played in the last round deserve another chance.

This is why I was never a fan of buying Zlatan in the first place, when you get someone for one season at the age of 35 and if he doesn't meet the expectation it's a total waste really. I'd rather of bought someone more for the long-term, think about it wisely you wouldn't be blocking Rashford's path anyway because you only have Martial and that's about it when it comes to strikers left at the first team. Unless you want to count Rooney as well but he is obviously done as a player.

If Zlatan doesn't deliver this season you can hardly even blame him, at the age of 35 coming to toughest league in the world and adapting is extremely difficult. For me it was a one trick wonder, which may of been found out already.

He's not had a problem adapting. He's going to a poor patch like the rest of the side

The thing about being an aggressive centre having finding an easy day against Zlatan isn't particularly true either, as he has phenmonenal strength and is good in the air.

What we need to do is move the ball more quickly.

He's also no longer in a league where his team can take month chunks at a time off and still steamroller teams.

Massive difference to his game from the last 4 years.

He never took months off himself, so not sure what your point is.

We're not putting away goals from all areas right now, lots of players getting into great positions but being inaccurate. No single failing

Be very interested to see what changes are made. This feels a particularly massive Manchester derby neither side can afford to lose given both sides current form and both managers desperate want to get that early trophy under their belts and that monkey off their respective backs at their new clubs.

Local derby's in the Cup always take it up a notch. The League Cup being under the lights just adds to that.

But not really relative to this season at all.

How is it not relative to the change in league and adapting you pulled zz on?

You go from an easy 4 years in one league with little completion to opponents that play hard every game all season long in England it's a big difference whoever you are to adjust to.

Surely that has to be a consideration?

*Edit* Completion? 'competition'

Because the issue isnt his adaptation or lack of it. The. He's neither struggling with the pace of the league, the defending, or the time he has on the ball, he's struggling because the midfield isn't quite cohesive enough, especially with runners, and like the rest of the side, he's being wasteful with his own shooting. United's problem are first and foremost tactical, so the buck stops with Jose

Yeah will be interesting. But If Pep says the lads deserve another chance he will give them it, he seems to stick to his guns and principles. Fair play to him. Can see Mou going fairly strong mainly due to all our youth players have been in action on Monday and yesterday. Maybe see TFM, Martial, Mky, Carrick, Scheiderlin all get a start.

Read your post, literally open twitter and that's the first thing I see lol

Not that it means anything. But early reports say Martial, Jones, Smalling, Rooney, Bailly did not get off coach

Zlatan Ibrahimovic on meeting Man City fans around Manchester: "I’ve met a lot but they became United supporters when they met me!"

(not sure if this is actually something he said mind!)

To be fair, Ligue 1 since the 75% 'supertax' has lost all of its talent and is now absolutely dire. Lyon and Monaco are okay apart from PSG but aren't realistic challengers. Watch Ligue 1 once in a while to see how dire the defending is. To be fair though, Zlatan has adapted very well. Apparently, he broke power records in his medical.
