The Manchester United Thread

Would be a tad surprised if they did this early? Ok, no doubt he has took the club on a lot just half a season in; deprogramming the "philosophy", restoring attacking football, signed world class players that are actually equipped for the Premier League, etc... But I'd at least see how this season pans out before extending a contract that the ink is probably still fresh on.

I have no doubt he is the man for the job, and I wouldn't moan if he signed an extension, but just think it would be a tad strange, and adds unnecessary spotlight.

Spot on, can't we learn from our mistakes and actually just wait to see how stuff pans out before adding unnecessary pressure. As things stand we aren't even in top 4 this season and yet we're giving a manager a new contract? Yes the performances are a mile better but the results are what truly counts.

Did this Lindelof bloke play for Sweden in the world cup? I don't ever remember seeing him.

Yeah, started every game if memory members right.

Don't know whether that's a good or bad thing, every time I saw that Sweden team in world cup I just saw average all over their team other than Zlatan obviously.

TBF he was good and it was his first tournament. Also was one if the best players at the youth euros the year before.

According to Record, Mourinho is a big fan of Lindelof & has played a significant role in convincing United to get him signed in January.

Its good he has a clear vision and identifying what and who he needs and getting it done early. Those would be 4 fantastic signings. Obviously Griezmann is the stand out. But Bakayoko excites me! Watched Monaco a lot and he reminds me of a bit of a mixture between Essien and Pogba. Been fantastic. And the 2 defenders look like very good talents, especially Semedo who is ripping it up in the Portuguese league. Reminds me of Ashley Cole very good in both aspects of a FB.

Interesting how we're doing the Lindelof deal now, I mean currently we have a good CB pairing in Jones/Rojo that could serve us until end of season with Smalling to come back. Bailly is obviously going to AFCON so he will be back.

But just signifies to me that Mourinho isn't confident still with his CB options and one of Smalling/Jones/Rojo will be going. Personally I got a feeling it might be Smalling, out of the three he seems the least Mourinho type defender. But personally if you had asked me a month ago I would of kept Smalling over Rojo and Jones. Now, maybe not, I've been impressed by Jones and Rojo.

Benfica playing on BT Sports tonight about 6 o'clock reports we have a scout there keeping a close eye on Semedo.

Just watching Utd in press and the journo saying that Schniederlin and Memphis likely to go to Everton and the later just has not impressed Mourinho at all in training. And they all confirmed the same about Memphis and even staff under LVG and LVG himself was left frustrated by Memphis attitude. And LVG conceded he could do nothing to get anything out of him.

And yet when I was on this thread criticizing Depay for his flash attitude, everyone on here jumped on me and said how United staff have been so impressed by his work ethic and dedication in training and he is just flash on the surface.

Now suddenly the tune has changed since Jose wants to sell him. Why not just admit that maybe Depay was not that good in the first place as you all made him out to be or Jose is making a mistake selling him. Would not be rare ... The man sold De Bruyne and Lukaku and not before character assassinating both to sell the move to the fans.

At the time there were reports from Giggs and other coaching staff saying he had been working hard in training. The issues about his attitude that UIP mentioned were reported after LVG had left. There not gonna bash a player to the press while there coaching him. For one reason or another it's not worked out for him here. He has the ability no doubt, must be lacking something elsewhere.

Lot of talk going around about Tony V signing a new 2 contract extension with the option of an extra year. Great news if true he's been fantastic this season under Mourinho and has improved his crossing and defencive side. Him and Semedo would be our RB sorted for years to come.

Update from former benfica player and current coach-
United's move to bring Lindelof to a top stage is no shock to Benfica's former defender Veloso who made over 500 appearances for the club.

“It’s no surprise to me that Lindelof is being transferred,” said Veloso.

“I just did not know if it would be now or at the end of the season, since there was strong interest from Manchester United and other clubs.

“He is an important player in Benfica, but the team has other high-quality ones like Jardel or Lisandro, and does not lose.

“But we are sorry to see him leave, of course.”
