If only you had proven, solid, reliable German solution to the Carrick problem.

Oh.

Seriously though, it's obvious Mourinho didn't even bother analyzing much of LVG era and only watched players in training. First he benched Carrick and tried to push his only replacement out of the club, and by the time he realized he made a mistake, the title race was already out of reach.

At least he realized the team can't play without Carrick in time to salvage your top 4 chances. But his treatment of Bastian was such a monumental **** up, he can't really use him anymore. Not without swallowing his pride first.

Tyton, as fantastic of an asset Carrick is, his lack of involvement in the earlier part of the season wasn't what cost us a shot at the title, there were a few factors, but the main one was simply our woeful chances to goals ratio. If we had of been destroyed in midfield week in week out, getting beat, I'd see what you mean, but it wasn't the case. We've battered so many teams this season in every department, bar the most crucial one; the scoreline, and I don't think Carrick would've had much of a helping hand in that aspect, unless he would've made a monstrous improvement of his 1.5 goals per season, which I somehow doubt. If anything, I'd say the delay in dropping Rooney (which I'll admit I wasn't all for unlike 99% of fans) was arguably a bigger factor than not playing Carrick, as was not playing Mkhitaryan for so long possibly, but hey, that's still hypothetical. But the reason I feel that those are arguably bigger factors is because I think we're better in a 4-2-3-1. I feel 4-2-3-1 with Mata, Mkhi & Martial behind Ibra is better than 4-3-3 with Carrick and Herrera both sitting (Herrera's capable of doing that destroyer like role by himself as he's proved), at least in majority of games. Much more fluid, much more understanding, Ibra seems a lot happier with a natural #10 playing off him, creates more space and increases our chances of scoring goals, which is definitely what we need.

All in all, we've got nobody to blame but ourselves in terms of not being in with a shout of the title in February. We've been our own worst enemies this season. I keep thinking about all the silly points lost; keepers going home with blisters on their hands, that late Giroud goal when we should've had the game already wrapped up, etc. But it is what it is. At least we're still fighting in all competitions, so our season is still very much alive, even if the title is out of reach.

The Chelsea game was a real strange one. We were stunned by the early Pedro goal, which threw our entire plan out the window (no doubt Mourinho wanted something similar to Anfield, stay solid and try nick a goal) and it just went complete and utter pearshaped. We played right into Conte's hands by being forced to take the game to them, ultimately being picked off on numerous occasions (not just counter attacks) and efficiently punished. Every time Chelsea went forward that day they looked dangerous. Still don't quite think it was a 4-0 game, felt we had our moments, but hey, that team are more than likely going on to lift the PL title, and that was our last defeat (willing to forgive the controversial Hull defeat as we were still the team that done the job over 180 and booked our Wembley place) so it's definitely been onwards and upwards since then.

We're definitely a much steadier ship since then with a lot more confidence in what we're doing. Touch wood no injuries from both sides, and it has the potential to be a cracker!

I remember Zlatan having a good chance at 1-0 so but soon as we got our 2nd i think i was very confident we'd go on to win the game. And your even sounding like Jose believing you won the 2nd leg vs Hull because it felt like it lol.

Spot on, our problems this season would be a lot worse without Pogba. Having Kante wouldn't of solved anything.

Having Kante is literally like playing with 12 men which Utd don't need as they usually have the ref on their side most weeks anyway........ (Light hearted joke)

Hopefully he didn't embarrass himself like Pogba's family. Half and half frigging SHIRTS? SERIOUSLY? Do people not think about the consequences of being ripped to F as an absolute laughing stock all over when they leave the house?

Talking of, just how bad was the older brother these two games? The quality in these two clearly SOLEY went one way. And he managed to **** a load of Saint-Etienne fans off with his antics with his brother when he came off the first leg which just compounds his poor showing.

They aren't the first ones to do that actually .....

God. More absolute dimwits. These people actually live among us which is frightening.

But then that's America so they won't have people either taking the absolute living P out of them. Or friends going 'WTF are you doing? F if I'm stepping out with you looking like a complete whopper! Get that ***** binned and give yer head a SERIOUS wobble soft lad!' Or words to that effect.

Not sure if Scouse is being deliberately dim here. She has a son playing for each side, which is exactly why she wore half an half. Funnily enough, most people worked this out and therefore it wasn't an issue. In fact, she got a really nice reception at Old Trafford. So no, she didn't embarrass herself. Genuinely wondering if you missed her really obvious point or are just trying to stir the pot. Because everyone at OT worked out the context in her point in about 3 seconds.

Eh tyton? Bastian has not only been playing, but he's been put back in the Europa League sqaud ( was always in prem) quite specifically to cover for Carrick

Both Pogba boys played that game? And they were supporting them? Darn, I'd of never known that if you hadn't said.

Ta for pointing that out to dim me.

Played FM and saw that United have decent RB at loan.
Any info on him, is he any good, in future plans?
Guillermo Varela

I like him a lot, but he is basically the Uruguayan version of Rafael. Good going forward, bundles of energy, suspect defensively, that is why he will never be a Mourinho RB.

Was doing very well on loan in Germany before he got injured getting good reviews from there press. Just started training again so hope he gets back and continues to do well.

Got Chelsea in the FA cup Monday after though. Get a decent result away, take on Chelsea, then try and finish the job the next week.

Couple of other big guns will knock each other out too.

Good to have the second leg at home before Chelsea.

Need to be on our toes. Let's not forget they beat Bayern in november because they caught them cold.

So if we beat Chelsea, we'll have 3 games in hand, but only 2 midweeks to play them.

Remember when Jose was criticised for saying the system is a bit of a shambles? He was right.
