The Manchester United Thread

I think he wants to keep Shaw down to earth after "winning" us that penalty last night, so that he keeps working hard and stuff like that.. I dunno

VERY strange way of going around it.

You don't do that to an International footballer. Completely humiliate him and question his footie intelligence to the media post match.

Completely dickish move. And a very dangerous all round game to play in terms of the whole dressing room. One would of thought he'd learned his lesson on that from his second go-around at Chelsea but seemingly not

How about Shaw is simply not taking in and doing what the manager wants. He's tried the whole around the arm thing in training and it didn't work. So this is the next step? Would not be the first manger to call Shaw out or the 2nd or 3rd!

**** move whatever way you cut it.

Do it behind closed doors to me if you have a problem. Do it in public, and your respect has gone. Do it to one of my teammates in public, and that respect is on the slippery slope.

yes ive heard about when he was at southampton and the struggle they had with him due to his poor diet so it seems this is not something mourinho has invented. There really appears to be an underlying issue with shaws fitness and that cant be tolerated at a club like united.looking more and more likely he will leave provided mou gets the LB he really wants.Would love danny rose but cant see that happening

Yup, I think/hope we'll get a "proper" LB this summer.. Young, Blind, Shaw, Darmian all rotated and Young been our best LB imo, says a lot. :(

Listened to an interesting theory from a tactical savvy United through & through man regarding the Shaw situation. Mourinho has said in the past that he (Shaw) doesn't play as he likes his left back to play, and then last night he further questioned his "intelligence" - is he too aggressive for the system Mourinho wants to employ and cement here? Which is revolved around accommodating Valencia providing our width on the right side (given we have only inside forwards, and none of them naturally left footed ala Robben, Mahrez etc, so they will naturally drift infield more, requiring Valencia to get forward more and cover it).

Last nights showing would back it up (first half anyway, second half was a tactical circus) with Lingard repeatedly coming infield, very central, with Valencia playing as a RM/RW when in possession, as opposed to Blind being very selective in his forward runs. And the fact that Shaw was one of his subs when 0-1 down shows that Mourinho somewhat rates his ability to have an attacking impact from wide areas... Maybe too much to fit what he wants as a Fb?

Thoughts? Not MY actual opinion, but interesting, not easy to brush it off as nonsense

Fair assessment that tbh!

I honestly don't think Mourinho wants to. And is giving Shaw one lady kick up the ****. Think Mourinho knows we have bigger fish/ problems to solve this Summer we're he can better invest.

Just saw an interesting, but damning stat. No epl team has hit the post more that united this season (18).

Wonder if we'll sign a left footed IF, or an out & out RW. Allow our two Fbs to have balanced contribution. In which case Shaw & Valencia/Semedo would be perfect

What if Shaw doesn't respond the way he wants? :( Is he gonna rotate with Blind, Shaw, Young and Darmian next season as well? :(

Maybe that's why Mourinho was talking with Perisic agent, even though he denies it. Think we will sign Griezmann and another attacker, most likely a STR who can deliver when Zlatans not playing. Those 2 should provide more goals and guile to our attack. Then hopefully Rashford and Martial get back into form, because there drop off has been huge this season! A better CM with better depth so less Fellaini will help. Pretty sure Pogba and Mky will see huge improvements now the first season is out the way. The squads just not good enough in over all quality and depth and balance atm.

If Shaw doesn't start doing what Mourinho wants in training he will be gone. Young will be gone and was close to leaving in January. I'm happy with Blind usually good at LB/CB and CM. Darmian is a gonner also. Would not be surprised to see TFM as Valencia understoody.

Right just for ***** and giggles as I've seen this on a few UTD Forums. Got to be realistic! Which 4 players would you sign that would go straight into our starting 11 and how would you line up? I've gone with 4 as Ed said there won't be huge incomings this Summer. You can name 7 subs if you want.

Ddg
Valencia- Bailly- Gimenez- Mendy
Bakayoko-Pogba
Mky- Griezmann- Martial
Zlatan

Romero, Rojo, Blind, Herrera, Fellaini, Rashford, Mata

Would not be surprised if we sign 1 more though a STR. Belotti.

Lacazette, Griezmann, Veratti and Rodriguez (left back I personally love, if Mou really doesn't like Shaw or whatever)

Can't think of a good CB that would improve United that would be reasonable cost

But that would be mega money

Valencia- Bailly- Smalling- Rodriguez

Veratti-Pogba

Mky- Griezmann- Martial

Lacazette

Thought about Lacazette but all reports saying he's agreed so decided not to. Not been impressed with Rodriguez this season, but I do like! I was really really tempted to put Verratti( the dream CM signing, and could be available) how would you line up. 4231 or 433?

Nice! Apart from Smalldini. We will defo spend huge ;)

4-3-3 would only work with the correct players in the middle of the park. If you take Pogba out of it, there's no balance to it at all, too many players doing pretty much the same thing. No runners from midfield (I don't count route 1 to Fellaini). Pereira would be a good back up/rotational option to Pogba, could easily play in the middle as a creative ball carrier. Veratti, Bakayoko & Pogba would be in a midfield 3 would be monstrous, compare it to Herrera, Fellaini & Pogba...

But those two signings, along with Greizmann, is just too unrealistic for me. That's why I think 4-2-3-1 is the logical choice, as we already have most of the puzzle for it with the likes of Mkhi, Mata, Martial, Rashford, and potentially Griezmann to have in that line of 3 behind Zlatan/Str. Just buy one world class midfielder to partner Pogba, get Griezmann (hopefully), and a centre half if we're offloading.
