The Manchester United Thread

Imo would be massive blow if we lost nani offers so much creativity, fluidity and movement also can play on each wing and can win matches with a flash of brilliance we should try and keep him at nearly any cost we want to be keeping our best players if we are going to try and beat our noisey naighbours next season! Plus whats to say nani leaves we bring in a replacement for silly amount and he cannot play/ adapt to the prem.

That is obviously aimed at me...

No I do not have short memory, Nani has never been consistent, he is very 'here and there' one match he is brilliant next match you would hardly know he was on the pitch. I have already stated he is good and I know he can deliver great performances on his day.

All I am saying is... if Nani is being stroppy over a new contract and is being unreasonable then he is not unreplacable, infact there are a lot of alternatives.

I disagree how people on here are saying "give him anything as long as not as much as Rooney", we are not Manchester City.. they have to be exceptionally good to get a massive contract and to be honest Nani has never reached them great heights which he is obviously capable of.
Agree in a way can sometimes be inconsistent, but he not even in his prime yet and will only get better imo he should be on more than young!

No doubt more than Young but what I do not want United start doing is just throwing money at certain players to get them to stay. United is bigger than any player, I stand by that and we should always put the club first. (Not aiming it at Nani, as it is all speculation).

Yeah all speculation atm think a med ground will be agreed and both sides will be happy.

No, dont give him what ever he wants. We have a wage heirachy for a reason. 90k should be the mark, with bonuses.

Wasn't necessarily aimed at you, I find a lot of fans seem to be very fickle (Chelsea fans wanting rid of Lampard & Drogba, Arsenal fans wanting rid of Wenger etc.). The fact that you seem to beleive that Nani hasn't reached great height is another example.

He's contributed to (scored or assisted) 25 goals in 36 starts this past season - a season in which he has probably slightly underperformed and been overshadowed by the return of a magnificent Antonio Valencia. The season prior, he scored 9 and made 14 in 31 league games. He has become one of our most important attacking players, and one of the best in the world at what he does. He is not 'unreplacable', but would be very difficult to replace with the money we'd make in selling him.

I agree with this, he has been good but I still think due to his capability he has still not achieved "great heights". I mean there is still quite some more to come from him which is obviously a good thing in a way.

But all I mean is, of course I would love to keep Nani, but I never want to see United throwing money at a player to get him to stay (All fabrication at the moment I know).

I think he would probably break the £100k mark personally, but if we can add another 3/4 years to his current deal then I think the outlay would be worthwhile

I'm not sure about that, when you bear in mind Vidic doesnt even break the 100k mark. And I know we are trying keep wage inflation down. But it needs to be sorted as he only has 2 seasons left on his contract. He certainly should be on more than Young's 70k though.

Agree needs to be sorted out sooner rather than later, if young is on about 70k then nani should be on at least 90k tops with bonuses.

Apparently he's lowered his wage demands twice, I'd say it's our club being unreasonable. If he's going to lower his demands, United need to meet him halfway and pay a little more than they wanted to.

I'd like a list of these realistic alternatives...two-footed, comfortable on each flank, unpredictable, young and capable of recording 10+ in goals & assists. You'd be a better scout than me if you can come up with a few names, that's for sure.

It depends, admittedly you probably won't get one who can play on both sides, but for the money you would get for Nani you could definitely buy a class winger for either side you think needed more quality. If Nani did leave it would probably be the right hand side because I think Young and maybe even Kagawa (can rotate) throughout the season there but on the right Valencia is quality but won't be able to play all the games.

I really hope Nani won't leave. He's the only player who can produce a bit of magic. Ok, Rooney is creative, Valencia is explosive, Young is meh, Kagawa is good attacking mid, but none can make something out of nothing. When your tactic doesn't work, you give the ball to Nani and he solves the game. He did that so many times. **** Ronaldo, screw Rooney, Nani is our best player when on form.

Disagree, Rooney>Nani. Oh and by the way Kagawa has produced a lot of magic for Dortmund.

United without Ronaldo > United with Ronaldo.
He's is better player, who could argue with that ? But the point is, when your tactic fails, you need to have player like Nani who can solve the game with some lucid move. You have Mata, City has Silva, we have Nani.
