The Manchester United Thread

I don't know whether to laugh or cry at this as it's probably true all ways round!

Can't wait for August to see our one and only attack result in Fellaini kneeing it past De Gea to win the Super Cup.

1:42 pm - 3 Jun 2017

Why would R. Madrid sign Fellaini? They already have some nice fringe talent in Asensio, Vazquez etc.

Too early to say I'm concerned, but I'm a bit worried already that we seem to be losing a lot of our (supposed) targets this big summer already.

Fabinho - The interest has shifted from us to PSG and City.

Griezzmann - Now staying at Atletico. Still hate how he went about it, "6/10 to join" publically claims then does a U-turn.

Bernardo Silva - Would of liked him here and a lot of people did think he was coming here until it turns out it was City.

---

Then mix this with the uncertainty of De Gea etc. This could be another mess of a summer if we aren't very careful. I hope we have followed the method of last summer where we actually got it right. Which was identify our targets early (which Mourinho has done) and get them as early as possible.

We obviously had a lot riding on Griezzmann... I'm just wondering now where we are actually turning.... forget Bale, it's going to be another summer of disappointment if chasing targets like him that won't move. I'm hoping our deals are just being kept under wraps, but I fear this summer is going to be another one like under Moyes/LVG. Although it is very early days we need to be careful.

Morata, Lukaku, Belotti, Lacazette, Perisic, James, Lindelöf and Keane etc still on, don't worry mate, will prolly be someone else we haven't thought about yet as well.. Still early days!

Maybe it's just me... but would any of us consider them A-class targets? For me a lot of them stick out as being backup options to who our main targets are.

The clearest example being James instead of Griezzmann. Pretty sure everyone realises James wasn't a priority. Griezzmann was the main target.

That's not to say James won't improve us, but just not to the degree Griezzmann would of.

Problem with a lot of people is your believing everything that the media, ITKs etc are tweeting. The fact is no one knows who we will really sign or who was on Jose list. The window hasn't benn open long at all yet. No need to panic what so ever. Apart from City signing Silva and Stoke signing Fletcher no one has signed anyone of not yet.

Dont see how we can say it's gonna be a mess of a Summer again. Last Summer was fantastic and all the players signed improved us and were arguably our best players. Don't worry folks!

Fair point, I just don't want this to become a summer of what we have done before where we chase unrealistic targets such as Bale all summer and it messes our whole transfer window. A bit like what happened under Moyes when we chased Fabregas endlessly, realised he wasn't coming which was obvious from the start and then scurried to try and get whatever we could... Fellaini turns up on deadline day.

In many ways Griezzmann making it clear now that he's staying at Atleti may be a blessing in disguise for us as we can move on to other targets. But not if we suddenly think that getting Bale is a possibility, because that's not a realistic target. It's just a player we'll waste time on.

Yeah understand your point. But as Mourinho said from dot, is that he will give Ed a list of targets not urealistic, hard but not unrealistic. And other options if these are going to drag on an become unrealistic. Since his arrival I've never been so relaxed in our Summer dealings, since before the latter years of Fergie signings.

Mourinho has been here a season now. Knows the squad, its weakness/ limitations. And we're to target in the market and take us to that next step. Of coarse no manager is perfect in the market. But he is a serial winner and knows how to build title challenging teams, especially second season.

Mourinho pretty much built both Real Madrid and Chelsea teams, so I have no doubts this window.
