The Manchester United Thread

Yup. And now social media is going bat **** crazy over it lul.

I somehow suspect it'll be a hefty wage packet loaded with add ons

we've done a Chelsea on Chelsea, swooped in and got him under their noses!

Ironically I think Morata would suit them more anyway and you just know Madrid will make it easier.

But undoubtedly I think Lukaku is more of a Mouribho striker than Morata.

They are both Jose forwards. Quick, powerful, can drop deep or stay forward. Good on the counter, great for outballs under pressure, and both good for possession play. If Chelsea get Morata, then they haven't really lost, even though Conte is fuming over Lukaku.

Lukaku is much more physically imposing than Morata, I mean jesus, that guy is a specimen. Looking at him alongside Pogba and he makes him look like nothing. This is Pogba, the same guy who outmuscled pretty much everyone last season.

Evertonians not happy?

No idea to be honest. I stopped checking for reactions as they border on the absurd half the time now.

I don't begrudge him his move though or bear him ill will. Personally I think he's earned his move. He deserves a bigger stage, and we won't be able to fulfill his ambitions as quickly as he wants as we're still rebuilding. Good luck to him-he deserves to be at a bigger club and deserves whatever success comes his way.

United had been having a difficult time in this summer's transfer market but Lukaku deal changes the whole mood for them. Big signing

The window has been open a week and Utd, if this goes through, have signed a centre-half and a striker. But it's been a 'difficult time.'

Seriously, is their NOBODY that doesn't talk absolute bunkum during a transfer window? Deary me.

it said had, as in before getting the striker. I would agree with that we got a decent CB in but what wasn't to be our marquee signing decided not to go and it seemed that everything else was dragging on quite a bit and may not happen I.e. Peresic and Morata

Well if we get Weigl I'll be over the moon, but I struggle to see how it will happen given his injury. But we really do need that DM, Lukaku is just Zlatan replacement. I'd argue we haven't really strengthened from last season, simply replaced some of the quality we had.

Seen people getting pissy about the fee, You will get the best part of ten years out of Lukaku a proven 20 goal a season striker. With the way fees keep inflating each year whether its 75m and Rooney or 90m I think its good business

To add to this Keita someone who has had 1 good season in a strong league is going for 70m

I was thinking earlier about just how much transfer fees have escalated. I remember back in my day (lol) people were open mouthed when David Platt left Aston Villa and went to Bari in '91 for £5.5 million which was a record back then. In todays money it's spare change in the back pocket

Dunno if you have read soccernomics? There is a way to calculate transfer fee inflation by working out the average transfer fee for the season then comparing the increase season on season. I would be very interested to see the figure for 2015-16 compared to 2016-17 and then what it would be after this window

also will point to the outrage of Chris Sutton to blackburn for a similar fee?
