The Manchester United Thread

As Mike. said.

Or, perhaps, choose from one of the multitude of other candidates that would fit United better rather than banging on about Dembele constantly.

Like who? As I said Dembele was realistic target going by our last few season transfers and I see nothing wrong about banging about him.

Meh soon I have to start sign Ever Banega again.

Save our money and do what? Play Rafael, Park, Giggs as CM when one of our CM is injured? Like we did against Blackburn? No thanks. Better to add depth than saving money in the bank.

Carrick and New CM.

Anderson - might be sold.
Cleverley - Never had injury free season like Anderson (even worse than Anderson) and played fewer games as CM than Dembele.
Giggs - Not good enough any more.
Scholes - Can't play all the games and not sure how he does playing full season.
Park - as good as sold.
Jones - Everything you said about positioning will put him down the pecking order below DeGea.
Fletcher - might not even play this season going by SAF's interview.

We need 2 CMs as we need depth and can't rely on Carrick for whole season again.

So why the **** buy a player who isnt a CM? Stop twisting my words. Dembele adds to the list of players who are not CMs. but you want to spend 15 million on him any way. Your option was Fellaini/Strootman, and Dembele. I choose one CM. Because Dembele still doesnt fix the issue.

The fact that someone like Strootman would be available for a similar price to Dembele, means that the latter's name should never come up. Because common sense dictates you would always pick the former for that role.

Wasn't a CM but played most of the games in the second half of the season as CM and did well.

No I didn't twist your words, I would rather buy Dembele for 15 Million than signing just 1 CM and saving 15 Million in the bank.

If we can sign other CM then fair enough, would love to sign 2 CMs, if we buy only one CM then I would rather sign Dembele along with that CM than signing noone.

Strootman and? Signing Strootman and Dembele is better than signing Strootman alone.

Dembele is over-rated, not needed and I'd be ****** off if we paid £15M for him when we could get Strootman for that price. Duncan Castles is the one who tweeted we'd had a bid rejected, he also tweeted Moutinho has asked to leave Porto, so Sir Alex needs to get a deal sorted before Spurs sign him.

No it isnt, because Dembele isnt a natural deep CM by any means, its a waste of 15m pounds and X amount of wages.

Something you posted about Kagawa, might suit Dembele also.

I think he may try and mould him to play the two roles, but I agree still need an MC.

After all, Modric started high and wide.

Not every AM is incapable of CM. Modric was once an AML. So no way to say he would be a waste if he is versatile enough, and he has excellent movement, which could allows for dangerous runs from deep. If SAF thinks he can be versatile enough, then there is no waste, and from what i have seen he has brains for it. Doesnt mean you suddenly play him there every game. It's all about options. and I'd still have him there over Giggs, thats for sure.

Anyways lets agree to disagree with all (;)) Imo he will very good addition, not as first choice but can play against midtable teams.

But that was posted in relation to using him there every now and then. Not as a regular option. As i immediately said next sentence. You know this so why spin it? Talk about clutching at straws.

Your last point proves it. Kagawa as CM over Giggs. Player who never played as CM over the player who played as CM. So I would take Dembele over Kagawa as CM. It all fits. Not to forget you gave Modric as example for player adapting to new role. There is every chance Dembele can learn and become even better CM than he is now.

No, I'm not spinning anything here, just highlighting what you said in the past. Not to forget he is versatile enough to play as CM, AM, Either wings.

Day off from football. But fancy Fergie to do some business this week. He's keeping his cards close to his chest.

Most probably this will be the last week to conclude all our deals as our preseason starts next week if I'm not wrong.

It proves nothing, you're just making **** up to try and prove your point, and failing to boot. Kagawa was always signed as AM, having him play at makeshift CM as an ultra attacking gambit would cost the club nothing, as would having our other options fill in. I dont rate Giggs at CM, but i'm not going to spend 15 million buying a player to use him as a makeshift deep CM, when there are options available. I would rather do that with what we have. They bought Modric for the wing, and over several seasons he adapted to the midfield, more through trying to get him more involved because his ability to dictate was so good.

You tried to deliberately take my post out of context and you know it. So lets not beat about the bush on that.

I'm out. I draw the line when people try and and spin what I say for a strawman argument.

Not really. It was about our lack of depth in CM dept and how players can adapt playing different roles. Simething fits with Dembele. Not to forget he has already played as CM for half a season and that's more games than Cleverely who at this point is our first choice CM with Carrick. Also it was more about how you said players can adapt and at the same time not giving any chance for Dembele to improve his weakness.

Also at the same time he adds depth to CM, AM, and wings. That's more than enough and he is just 25.

But anyways you have your points I have mine. I would rather sign him than no one else along with only CM. If we can sign 2 CMs then fine, if not then Dembele would be good additions. Also we wont be watching Rooney playing as CM like he did in 1 or 2 CL games.

We should sign either modric.strootman.moutinho. play one with Carrick then leave fletch, ando,Cleve, scholes, giggs as rotation don't forget petrucci,Powell, tunnicliffe will all be floating around first team aswel. I would rather play tunnicliffe then buy/ waste money on dembele least e natural in that position.

Lets see if I can sort this out..

Sunil says: He wants Dembele and another natural central midfielder because signing two natural midfielders is unrealistic due to finances and he'd rather bring in two players for squad depth even if they're not naturally capable in that role to avoid having to play Giggs/Rooney/Rafael etc as CM's when injured.

Everyone else says: Don't sign Dembele at all. He doesn't solve the problem, plus we can go and sign one midfielder who naturally does the job needed then save the money so we can buy another class midfielder or just break the bank and go for both to address our problems ASAP.

I get both points completely, but the only one that makes sense to me is Mike./GodCubed/Alcaraz etc.. No point in signing Dembele. He won't improve the squad in the way we need to improve it, all he'd do is add bodies to the squad so we had more established players to play during a crisis. Not worth the gamble in my eyes, plus he's not that great anyway.

Moutinho - Carrick
Valencia - Kagawa - Nani/Young
Rooney/DW/JH

Cheers DMF, at least you got the point. Whether we agree or not is completely different.

Also regarding Moutnho,

@Samih075 someone I trust at MUFC tells me there's nothing in the Moutinho story, people at Porto briefing something very different though

We also need a back up or someone to rotate with Carrick too, we don't have anyone who plays his role.

We did get the point, but as he points out, it didnt make sense.
