The Manchester United Thread

**** me Madrid are scary good. Tore Barca a new one even being down to ten. Asensio gonna be a star!

puts the euro super cup into perspective, utd criticised heavily for being outclassed but the truth is real are way ahead of everyone.no shame in losing to such a team

It shows how class Real are, but it also shows how Barcelona are nothing to fear. Neymar wasn't so slow to get out, sinking ship. Although they could use his sale money to somewhat steady that ship with a CM (Coutinho) & a LW (Dembele).

Anyone else notice Suarez' decline? Of course still a class player, and he'll still decide matches, but his all round game only seems half of what it was in his Liverpool time/early seasons for Barca.

With Barca just confirming the signing of Paulinho I think Coutino or Dembele would directly replace Neymar on that left wing. Big boots to fill tho!

Paulinho is underwhelming tbf. Adds to a list of questionable recruitment the last few seasons.

they are in decline im afraid, the likes of puyol, xavi, iniesta, villa were always gonna be hard to replace plus messi is showing signs of slowing up too although still one of the best.real streets ahead right now.

They focused too heavily on MNS (which is fine, they're the best front trio of the modern game), but they really abandoned any care for balance throughout the team.

It's as if they and Madrid have swapped places. Madrid prided themselves on galactico superstars, particularly in the final 3rd/attacking half, Barca prided themselves on a quality midfield playing super football - it's the other way around now (and Barca have even lost a strong degree of that galactico forward tag with Neymar gone).

Every top 6 team in the PL has a CM/CAM that would walk into Barca's midfield.

Whether it's Pogba, Bernardo & David Silva, De Bruyne, Coutinho, Kanté, Dembele, Eriksen, Cazorla, etc. they'd all be in with a strong shout of benching Andre Gomes, and some of them Rakitic.

Imagine being able to say that about Barcelona?

Aye, the Silva brothers

u23s just beat a good older more physically developed Liecster away 0-1. Starting 11-

Ohara
Olesunde-Warren-Williams-Mitchell
Willock-McTominey
Riley-Boonen-Kehinde
Bohui

Very tough game in tricky conditions. Sbragia seems to have them well organised and has a better balanced side than last year. Mitchell free kick was world class! Good to see RoShaun Williams back and looking fit and raring to go. Him and Tyrell Warren were beasts at the back, and Mitchell and Olesunde did well against some tricky, pacy wingers. Good to see Bohui, Buffonge, Boonen, Warren filly promoted now to the u23s. Boonen and Bohui looked good in attack. Will be even better when we have Dearnley, Gribbin, Wilson, Kenyon, Whelan back in the side. Looks like a strong balanced side this year and will only get better after more time/games with Sbragia. Here's Demi free kick :)

Still buzzing from yesterday, haven't enjoyed a game like that for quite a while. Whilst we have to realise it was only one game, there was a lot of positives.

I'm seriously thinking now whether Matic wanted the move so badly because he wasn't happy with the role he had at Chelsea he was being 'shackled' to playing this like static holding role Conte wanted with Kante next to him it seems.

Some players just need a new challenge/new scenery. Although no doubt he'll enjoy playing in a more open team, getting on the ball and spraying passes to runners

I was just shocked how dynamic he was, that bit where he took on like 3 players on the wing was mental, he was a beast yesterday. Trying to not get carried away, but our team has lacked someone like him for so long.

By far our MOTM for me yesterday, one game only but positive to build on.

He averaged 52 passes per game at Chelsea last season, he had 69 yesterday. He averaged 1.4 dribbles per game last season, he had 7 dribbles yesterday.

He's a hard anchor man, but unlike Conte's system showed too much, he can play too.

Again, early days, but he looks the player we've been crying out for to complement Pogba.

Just watching it again now on MUTV. And it's like wow moment after wow moment from Matic. Was literally the complete performance!

I was a little surprised tbh. I know he's a great player, but I had questions over his mobility in a double pivot. I knew he'd be perfect as a DM in a 3, but that performance yesterday just wow'd me. He's an engine, and an intelligent one too.

The fact he can play like that in a 2 offers so much tactical flexibility. Herrera bound to have a sleepless night last night though.

Some of his dribbles and passes long especially :O

Tbh, if and it's a big IF, Matic keeps up that kind of performance level, then Herrera doesn't stand much chance if we use 4-2-3-1 regularly.

Matic makes Herrera almost seem like a kid in a school playground, don't get me wrong I love Herrera but he's not on the level Matic was yesterday. Plus Matic is much more physically imposing obviously.
