The Manchester United Thread

I remember he was linked with Arsenal too last summer, heavily linked. He'll still be a West Brom player come September 1st

Not writing them off, with Messi they have always a chance, on that alone. But as a whole, they're FAR from the Barca we all know and feared.

Poor club management/recruitment lately. Far too top-heavy and much too reliant on the front 3, they even became much more direct instead of their reputable classy build up.

In recent years they've lost a touch of their identity, La Masia production decreased and they're predominantly opting to buy 'prime' players, which is fine, Madrid do it too with great success.. but ffs, at least Madrid buy ones that are worthy... Alcacer, Andre Gomes, Paulinho, Arda Turan, Vidal, etc.. it's just a list of average players that aren't going to/aren't likely to improve, which I'm sorry, is just so poor for a club of their stature and financial backing (when they identify a player).

I'd near go as far to say Suarez was their last buy that paid off? That's going back a right few seasons now?

If they don't quickly turn it around and sort out a clear future, they could become a sleeping giant ala Milan when the likes of Messi, Pique, Suarez, Iniesta (which is very soon for the no.8) & co. all hang up their boots/not be able to play at the highest level.

I like Barca, just calling it as I see it.

Still as good, if not better, as most sides in Europe not called Madrid IMHO.

Wouldn't fancy any English clubs chances against them outside of City and L'pool this year but we'll see what the draw throws up a week Friday.

Yeah, I remember that one.
Never, ever trusted the guy. Always seemed like an OG was only minutes away when He was on the pitch.

totallly agree scouse but imo barca are in decline, still a quality side but not as fearsome as a few years back when they were untouchable.nothing lasts forever

They got complacent about the MSN's ability to fire them to trophies and almost looks as if they felt they could have any other 8 people on the pitch and win trophies, they have failed to recruit and most of their key players are around or over 30. Think they will have to put up with Real winning the next few La Liga's but will still be a very big threat in Europe with Messi and Suarez's ability to score making them tough opposition in a two legged tie

If Liverpool have a chance against Barca, then so do United, Spurs and Chelsea.

If I can manage to stay awake, which is debatable as I'm absolutely goosed, I'm quite looking forward to the second La Liga encounter this week later. Thought Barcelona were unlucky to be 2 behind after the second half display the weekend.

I'd give every PL team a reasonable chance against them.

Why do you think Liverpool are above the likes of Chelsea & United in Europe? Unless they tighten up that vulnerable open midfield, which doesn't even have that creative spark anymore with Coutinho out the picture (so I'm not sure what makes them play open) and that shambolic high back line, I wouldn't be putting forward Liverpool's name as the PL's best hope of a good CL run or to beat Barca/Madrid. I'd have City, Chelsea & United ahead. The Pep factor with that squad, the tight Italian system of Conte's which will only strengthen if he gets late personnel, and the Jose factor who unlike most of the hipster managers nowadays, knows when to be conservative and when to push the boat out, especially in these tight tactical European games.

The Jose factor ..... Mate, let's be honest, you were very lucky right through the knockouts last year against some **** poor sides.

I've defended Utd more than most regulars in here for winning 2 trophies over not finishing top 4. But you could (and would against better opposition) of gone in most every knockout Round bar the game against Les Verts. That's not troubling a top footballing side.

He doesn't.
His modus operandi is to derail the Manchester United thread into chatting about ABU. Anything but United.
The Mods spotted it before and they will spot it again.

Anthony, please grow the F up.

Firstly, a difference of opinion isn't derailing anything. If you don't like that then message boards aren't for you.

Secondly, they didn't spot anything. I asked for something to prove a point on what was going on at that time and I got exactly what I wanted. Or have we completely forgotten that? But regardless, that is little to no concern of anyone else's.

Anything But United ..... How old are you mate? Because you're not acting father material with that bunkum.

Good grief, the pair of you shut up.

Scouse, no point was proven, you were being a bell at the time

Anthony you're being far too sensitive

As for Liverpool? When was the last time you lifted a European trophy? Based on the two games so far, you're in zero shape to be lifting anything

Thought so. Talking about being better than sides who have lifted them more recently is utterly stupid.

Moving on.
