The Manchester United Thread

What would you have done? They came out firing all cylinders, our worst & most sluggish half for some time. Sometimes there's nothing you can do but commend the opposition; they wanted it more that second half, and unlucky in their efforts to not find a goal. We recognized they were majorly in the ascendancy, and tried to stifle them (which I say we done successfully, as shaky as it was pre substitutes).

One thing I'll say, Pogba is desperately missed.

yes mate we badly miss pogbas drive and quality from midfield

Pogba is a huge miss, especially when we have Fellaini as backup.

Asking what I would of done isn't really going to fix anything is it? I'm not the manager and paid millions to make those decisions.

I'm just saying that when we are holding on for dear life for the last 20 minutes, coverting to 5 at the back to preserve a 1 goal lead against this Southampton team, there is something badly wrong. Lets not forget we were really comfortable against this same team in first half.

So what exactly are you complaining about. We won the type of game we would have drawn. Job done

Are we going to say this after every win now?

We didn't even lose points in this type of game, our away form last season was very good.

well are you going to moan like a kid when we play bad and still win be ******* happy for once jesus

Worry in Feb / Mar if you're still playing ugly and winning by the skin of your teeth. In Aug-Jan its all about points on the board.

Beat whats in front of you, get other side of xmas in the hunt and the squad as fit as you can.

I thought we dropped points to these away last season!?

Not sure exactly but our away form against these types of sides was one of the better things of last season.

A win is a win, course I'm happy. But lets just realise that we were fortunate. If we invite teams on to us like that again in future matches it will cost us points. That's all I'm saying. Calm down folks. ;)

Difference is we didn't invite it; they forced it. They were excellent that second half, all over us. Last season we sent on an extra CB on a few occasions before the subsequent storm, in my opinion unwarranted and forced unnecessary pressure. Today however, we sent Smalling on during it, & was needed tbh. Especially after they sent a few extra strikers. It was the logical move.

Just watched the match again. I know I slated the 3 behind Lukaku a bit yesterday. Was more in an attacking sense. But you can’t deny the work they did for the team in helping us get the result. Great analysis on MOTD that I didn’t really notice watching it live! Thought the sending off of Mourinho was w bit harsh tbh.

16/18 is one of our best ever starts. We can't win 4-0 every week

That's true, but are Southampton that good, to make us look like a minnow hanging on in a cup match and bringing on defenders to hold a one goal lead?

I am happy with three points, but that's not the way United (or any top club) should be playing.

Finally, someone gets it! :D

It was like trying to get through a brick wall, making this point yesterday on here :P

Saints are good team tbh. With some good players even at international level. They have been steadily improving year on year. And are a very well coached team who play a good style of football. That’s the sort of game our rivals will drop points this season.

Then you blame the players that were on the pitch, the same players that have been winning 4-0 on a weekly basis almost. They were the ones being outplayed that second half, they were the ones being forced into a corner, they were the ones who could barely string 5 passes together. Jose sent on Herrera to regain control, didn't work, they were still too strong in the ascendancy. So what do you do? Only logical explanation was to add another CB. Its not always the managers fault. Can't believe I'm even debating over a win; feels like we lost now. My last post on the matter.
