The Manchester United Thread

SAF was against twitter from day 1, it just bring unnecessary distraction when someone like Rio or Frimpong does some idiotic acts. Even Morrison got into trouble for his tweets. Unnecessary distraction, better to ban the players from using it.

Hopefully SAF sticks to these words.

And that's his opinion. It doesn't mean he should just ban it because he doesn't like it. They're adults, they can do what they like without their employers trampling into their personal lives.

They represent club on and off the pitch so manager has the right to ban if he thinks it's not worth it.

If SAF wants to ban, he will ban and players will listen to that.

Of course he has the right, I'm saying the club shouldn't.

Its more he has the right to penalise them if they cross the rules of the club. He hasn't got any real case to ban them outright. Nor does he really intend to try. He's talked about it before, he doesnt like it, but he's never mentioned stopping them.

No he can, just he didn't ban players from using it. If Rio gets banned for few games then I can see him employing stricter rules against twitter.

It will be hard to see him test whether he can ban players from using Twitter, at best he can ban them from mentioning the club in anyway shape or form. On what ruling could be ban them from twitter?

SAF said club is looking at it (to ban twitter) when Rooney threatened someone on twitter, just that he dropped it as nothing much happened after that. If Rio is banned then I can see him doing that or something close to that.

On what ruling? There need not be any official rule about it, if SAF says then players will listen to it.

Has anyone ever been banned over twitter?

Has anyone ever been banned over twitter?

AFAIK no one, but he said club is considering that move, finally nothing happened as Rooney's case was nothing.

Edit: Ban is a big word maybe, Danish manager asked players not to use twitter until Euro was over and none of their player used it. Going by rule there is no rule where manager can stop someone using twitter but if players want to, they will listen.

Has anyone ever been banned over twitter?

Not as far as im aware. He has only ever voiced his displeasure with Twitter.

SAF doesnt treat them like children, so i see any ban as unlikely.

Yet another pointless argument.
Anyway, he got fined for agreeing with someone on twitter ?

He got penalised for retweeting and agreeing with an offensive racial comment that the original poster is being investigated over by the police.

100% deserved.

We may start season with only one fit CB.

Smalling - out for 10 weeks
Evans - might miss start of the season
Vidic - maybe back for the start but not completely sure.
Jones - Not sure if he is injured or given time off.
Rio - might be banned for few games.

So Carrick as CB will happen much earlier than last few seasons.

If we do end up with only one fit CB (Vidic) then I hope we play Wootton as playing Carrick as CB will have weaken us in 2 positions at a time.

We are going to need to buy a centre back by the end of the season. At the very least we should be watching the young ones, and have an eye out in the market.

Maybe, looks like this will be Rio's last season as starter (not sure he will start many games) and still not sure how Vidic will play once he is back. We have very good young CBs in Smalling and Evans with Jones still down the pecking order.

I would love to see Keane getting chances. He is built like a first team player and certainly a good talent. If Vidic is back as he was then we don't need to but a CB as Vidic, Smalling, Evans, Jones are good enough with Keane waiting in the ranks. Also Wootton looked very comfortable in the preseason, so loan to championship team or lower PL team will do lot of good for him.

So Glazers are now taking personal shares out of the IPO. Paying back £75m on the bonds, saving £4.2m a year on interest. For ***** sake.
