The Manchester United Thread

An interesting analysis. Although I'm not in complete agreement with the stuff said about Berbatov. I think he can play as a second striker quite effectively, and I also think he is perfect foil for Hernandez, possibly Welbeck. So taking that into account, I think you're in need of a cm and a left back, but not a striker.

Agreed in terms of ability. But he has yet to really do it in terms of performance. That said, I would rather keep him.

Some truth. Sahin doesnt want to leave Madrid, and ose said he would be first team next season, however, Modric looks like he will be arriving and unless Kaka goes and Modric plays at AMC competing with Kaka, its hard to see him breaking through this season. Alonso is 31, so a loan would return him at a perfect time to replace him. Personally I think they are throwing money away, just play Sahin now, he is top class and would walk in to many sides.
Hope we dont sign sahin on loan unless it has option to buy at end of it, dont see point really its just delaying the problem imo.

Kaka looks set to leave ... Had showdown talks with Mourinho and was left out of the squad for the Pre-Season Friendly vs Real Oveido after being initially included in it. Agree with you on the Modric part although Modric and Alonso could form a very dynamic pivot and would hands down take Madrid to another level entirely.

Still their is little sense to throw money away like that when you have a potential star in Sahin waiting on the wings...

I wouldn't mind tbh, it would give Cleverley, Powell, Tunnicliffe etc another year to develop.

Yeah but even then next season they will not be ready to start in the first team, why just not buy one now while we still have giggs and scholes to help him settle into the club and gain there experience for a season for when they retire then have younger CM still develop round them/him,makes more sense to me instead of signing one after and chucking him in with a lot of youth/un-experienced players next season.

A look at the different winger-full-back combinations that took place in the Shenhua-United game.

Valencia is what you may call a traditional winger. He is at his most dangerous when he runs past opposition full-backs. Given that he tends to stay out wide a lot, the complementary full-back movement would be to make runs on the inside of him instead of the outside.

The above image is an example of this. Valencia receives a long pass from Anderson on the wing while the right back Veseli (circled) bursts forward and cuts inside once he reaches the final third. This is part of the reason why Rafael has tended to link-up well with Valencia. Rafael naturally performs this wing-back-like movement while Valencia helps him out defensively.

Now this is different from what is required from a full-back when he has a winger in front of him who roams inside.

Jesse Lingard (on the ball) is a natural attacking midfielder and unsurprisingly roamed to central positions from the right wing after coming on for Valencia. This meant that the full-back Vermijl (circled) had the responsibility of providing width for the side.

Both cases showcase one of the basic principles of attack which is the importance of utilizing the space available in the best possible manner. Winger-full-back combinations are an important part of attacking football, especially for a team that relies heavily on the wing for creativity.

Just read on MUFC official site that reo ferdinand has been charged by fa:( hope he dont get any match bans coz our defence is short as is for start of season with no smalling, evans, fabio and vidic doutful. Also what do people think of the new shirt sponsor as of 2014/15 taking over from AON?

Rio gets what he deserved, but I thought it was just a retweet, not something he tweeted. Anyways hopefully SAF does something about it and ban the players using twitter. Seriously how hard is it to use some internet app sensibly when you are followed by millions?

Also would like to see Suarez explanation when he said ManUtd control politics in England and all that non sense.

I hate this twitter thing. Why cant the players just be smart with what they speak over it.Clubs should create some rules for players of what all they should not do on such apps because clearly every club gets in news bcoz of one stupid act by its players every month.

Does anyone know the financial benifits of having chevrolet as shirt sponsor instead of aon?

No. It was idiotic but don't treat them like children. He should be internally disciplined, and that should be it.

SAF was against twitter from day 1, it just bring unnecessary distraction when someone like Rio or Frimpong does some idiotic acts. Even Morrison got into trouble for his tweets. Unnecessary distraction, better to ban the players from using it.

Hopefully SAF sticks to these words.

I don’t understand it, to be honest with you. I don’t know why anybody can be bothered with that kind of stuff.
How do you find the time to do that? There are a million things you can do in your life without that.
Get yourself down to the library and read a book. Seriously. It is a waste of time. It seems to have a certain momentum at the moment.
Everyone seems to want to do it.
