The Manchester United Thread

I loved what England done in the World Cup, they were a breath of fresh air, but can we not act like beating Tunisia, Panama, dragged to pens by Colombia and beating a sub-par Sweden was anything out of the ordinary? Maguire had a decent, 6/10 tournament (what did he have to do?) which is acted like it was a 10/10 because of a few goals on top. But if I speak, I am in big trouble.

The very irony of your post, Mourinho must of rated Maguire a whole lot better than you did and currently do seemingly because he wants to sign him!

CL wished it got the viewing figures and money of the WC. The generate about 25% of what the WC does.

One can assume he meant viewing figures from Liverpool :P *sorry, not sorry*

I'd personally say the World Cup is the biggest sporting event in the world, but it's definitely not a wise metric of player quality. Limited tactics, coherence, etc. Most International sides can't even execute a standard premeditated press (with designated pressing triggers etc.) because there's not even enough time to work on that.

Or z he/ Woodward who ever, are just flat out desperate for a signing with less than a fortnight left to try salvage the window.

Mourinho wants to sign him because:

-Alderweireld mightn't happen, good to show Spurs they have other targets and willing to pay silly money for them
-If he ships Smalling, he has no aerial specialist CB's

Convinced Jose has his heart set on Toby.

Scouse, you are allowed your opinion, but when have you ever said good about a United player/target?

You've literally criticised everyone we've ever bought.

Ship Rojo, keep aerial-specialist in Smalling, and sign Toby. That's probably his ideal situation.

The absolute ideal situation to me would be to ship Smalling and Rojo, sign Toby and Maguire, and Maguire somehow be happy to be a back-up/rotation/specific game option. But that's never going to happen.

Oh FFS. You are one pathetic ******* z. Sorry, but that needs saying. This is why very few non-Utd fans ever venture into this thread. Tawdry ***** like that if it happens to not tow the Utd-centric line.

Tell yer what. The next time I praise Utd on a display or defend one of your players, and you agree or like me, as you often do, I’lll embarrass the living P out of you for the hypocrisy you continue to display.

Bailly is unquestionably better lmao. One of the most talented CB's in world football, rare skillset that only he, Varane and Koulibaly has (off the top of my head). Two CB's excellent tacklers & unbelievable athletes - obscene recovery pace. Each of them would excel in a Tony Pulis deep block or a Jurgen Klopp high line.

Rudiger was fantastic last season after he got settled in, and for Roma the season before (football does exist outside of England :P ). I'm sure most Chelsea heads would back me up on that.

And well in regards to Walker & Rose, they're both top 5 in their respective positions in world football, and are both the best in the PL when fit & firing, so I'd say they're definitely "border-line" world class? (Don't run away with what I said mate)
I will possibly agree with Walker but tbh the quality of RFBs ain’t great after Kinmich, Meunir, Carvajal. But Rose no chance he is top 5 LFBs Alonso, Marcelo, Alba, Alana, Ghoulam, Luis, Mendy, Sandro that’s just off the top of my head. Think your overhype of Bailly is a bit premature. He’s as rash as heck and heads the ball like a turtle going back into his shell.

Mate, takes a hypocrite to know one. You know I'm right, resort to the insults all you like. You criticised Lukaku, Bailly, Lindelof and that's just recently on top of my head when we bought them.

Oh and you've never praised a United display as long as I can remember, under Mourinho at least.

Always had an issue with Marcelo being classed as a top FB given he can’t ****** defend and is a massive liability every time he plays in that regard.

Fantastic going the other way though.

Only Marcelo & Alba are unquestionably better than a fit & firing Danny Rose. He's in the same bracket as Alex Sandro for me, just the latter a lot more reliable these days in terms of fitness, then there's Rose's mental health issues. You're massively underselling him, a bit of recency bias probably as he's been out of the picture for a while. Been the best LB in the PL for the last 2-3 years, and it's not even close. Lad is genuinely top drawer.

Get the F over your sensitive self z. Please.

You have one default line when you have no answer and it’s that. And it fits you perfectly with myself being an actual Scouser so I must be anti-Utd! Unless I’m agreeing with you then I’m sound and the hypocrisy is on full blown display.

Lame and pathetic.

Ashley Young is a better defender than Rose, jeez Rhqq you way overrate him. Just look at most recent WC, he was all over the place defensively.

Admittedly he is decent going forward, but he's not great defensively and for me is suspect a lot of the time. He fits Spurs team well because they are on front foot a lot of the time, as soon as he has pressure on him other way it's curtains.

I'd take quite a number of names ahead of Rose for left back I liked him more at the beginning of his career but he hasn't really pushed on a ton I feel. Would be a bit underwhelmed if we signed him given the price he would inevitably cost.

On Maguire I would happily see him at United if it wasn't for the fee being mentioned, he's good but not world record or near world record fee good for his position.

Luke Shaw has (still I like to believe), better potential than Rose and if it wasn't for injuries and fitness he probably would be England no.1 in that position. That leg break in CL tie under LVG really halted him, up till that he was the player and becoming everything we thought he could be.

If you want a proper fullback from Spurs, not LB admittedly. go for Trippier.

FWIW, very few if any LB the PL I’d swap Andy Robertson for the season he’s just come off.

A fully healthy Danny Rose would give me pause. He’s dominated the position since Cole hung it up.

I’m not under selling him or bias of any sort. He’s just not top 5 in the world.
