The Manchester United Thread

Sports jerno posting on twitter private jet flying into manchester airport from brussels at between 11-11:15 from guardian paper.Let the rumours begin!
Oh, hopefully it's some belgian midfielder. Doesn't even need to be Belgium, just Midfielder rumor.

Your right, Fergie seemed far more crazy back in the 90's selling a lot of his top players all in one go pretty much. Rather than adding a world class striker to his team along with a few youngsters like this season. My mistake.

Your completely missing the point... Its not about whether Ferguson knows what he is doing. Its about whether he is putting excessive faith in a bunch of injury-prone midfielders to come good this season and Evra to suddenly revert his inevitable decline.

I don't think any Man Utd fan will deny that they would have rather spent the 24m pounds on Moutinho rather than RVP.

To score goals ;)

Like everyone I want a top notch CM but Rooney and RVP can get 50 goals between them and Kagawa, Chicha, Welbeck, Young, Nani 8-12 goals each AND with Vidic back then there's no reason whatsoever why we can't win the league. Europe will require a different approach but the league is the bread and butter

Don't think scoring goals was ever a problem. Also I doubt two strikers in your squad can hit 25 goals each. Be realistic. Young will score 10 goals? Lol he will need to get enough time on the pitch first with all the players you have

Really don't know why you seem so confident of winning the league... All of your rivals have significantly strengthened their weaker areas. All you have done is add more quality to an area already packed with quality and not solved the problem areas.

I expect Man Utd to show a strong fight but its likely that City will win the league again

agree with Alcaraz, much rather have Moutinho than RVP, even though RVP is quality, but we have overkill in the attacking department as it stands at present, we need to invest in the middle..

Joao would have been a much better INVESTMENT than RVP

Hope you don't think I am sounding bitter mate. Its just that paying 24m pounds for an injury-prone striker who is 28 and has a grand total of one great season at the top level is a bad investment. Thats the way Chelsea do business lol

Also before people jump on me and say that the 24m pounds may not be the correct figure, think about it. Why would Arsenal want to sell their best player to a rival club in the same league unless they were offered a premium value for him

I agree completely mate, but, he is quality and will do well for Utd...

the reason why they wanted/needed to sell him was because he would not sign a new contract and get released for free and they would lose out big time... so they had to sell him, it was not really an option, they were waiting out on the best offer mate!

Its all well and good that they think that, but most United fans haven't had 20 odd years experience of managing Manchester United unlike Fergie, so I'd rather go on his decision making rather than the United fans* thoughts on the matter.

The point I was making was people have questioned him before- and they were wrong and he was right. If RVP can stay away from injuries, I don't see why this is a bad signing.

RVP is world-class no doubt. Would be interesting to see if Fergie manages to intergrate both RVP and Rooney into the team. Would definitely be a quality partnership consisting of the two best strikers in the EPL

Also I agree that Arsenal had to sell him. I was thinking more along the lines of -- Arsenal would prefer to sell RVP to Juve rather than Man Utd if both offered the same amount of money. Obviously Man Utd needed to offer a premium in order to get him.

It also appears as if RVP rejected Juventus and forced his way to Man Utd. Apparently Wenger said something along those lines. Like he was very keen on coming to Man Utd

Apparently Gill said he wants to offload Macheda, Berba and Bebe and bring in one more player. Hopefully a CM, but I wouldn't complain at a LB either.

still it would be nice to see some one give a killer pass not just run there socks off for you

Ferguson is not god. He can make mistakes as well. If everytime United make a signing and all we are expected to say is Dont' worry people, Ferguson knows what he is doing.. then what is the point of having a football forum

RVP is not a bad signing... Its more about how that money could have been spent to actually bring in a player who solves a need in the squad. Think its called Opportunity Cost or something. Don't know... Joel will probably know the right term :P
