The Manchester United Thread

Yeah, Giggs was very poor, I think his time is almost at an end now.

On a seperate note, Defoe was excellent with dragging our defenders out of position, especially as we were stretched at the back for all 3 Spurs' goals.
Dofoe has been great this season! Felt sorry for our defence with the midfield knowhere to be found.

Alex Ferguson said:
"The biggest insult was they gave us four minutes [injury time], it's an insult. It denies you a proper chance to win a football match."

Ferguson told BBC Sport: "There were six subs, the trainer came on, so that's four minutes right away and the keeper wasted two or three minutes at every goal kick."

BBC Sport - Sir Alex Ferguson: Amount of injury time an insult

Amazing. XD

Dembele has played 3 games as CM against ManUtd and he raped us all 3 times. He was class apart and people here thought he would be waste of 15 million.

He has everything in his locker, it's near impossible to win ball back from him. And again he is averaging 4.5 tackles per game, meh forget all this bullshit stats, he has been class in every single game. Would have easily improved our first 11.

There are other CMs who would have improved our first 11 too, and been a better fit to our system. The problem was we didn't buy one, not that we bought the wrong one.

Not "I told Ya' thing, but at that time I said I would rather sign Dembele than keeping 15Million in the bank account.

There were not many midfielders available and the one who was available for good price (for his talent) we passed it.

Assuming we had the 15 Million (After spending around 40 Million on Kagawa and RVP) in the bank account to spend :)

Dembele isn't solution to our midfield problems. We need someone who can shield defence, someone like Sandro or Diarra ( Yes, both games where Dembele run over our midfield he had pure defensive mid to watch his back).

We had. Otherwise there was no point in trying to sign Hazard/Lucas.

Carrick with Dembele would have worked very well IMO. People never give Dembele enough credit for his defensive duties. If we had signed Dembele then Carrick would have played deeper role and Dembele bit ahead of him.

Now no point though as we ca't sign him anymore.

Carrick isn't defensive midfielder who tackles other players. He's playmaker. He couldn't provide protection to defense and allow Dembele to do his rampage. He's good at pressing and winning ball, there's no question about that.

Carrick's best attribute is provide defensive cover. He plays deeper than any CM we have and did very good job. In the last few seasons Carrick primary job has been providing cover for defense. He is not a play maker at all, if we are talking about deep lying one then Alonso is the one who plays some amazing balls from deep but Carrick's duty is to keep game ticking by playing small passes and let his partner do the creating job.

There's few types of playmakers. Carrick's best attribute isn't providing defensive cover, it's controlling the pace of the game. Yes, he does few through balls, but nonetheless he's a playmaker. Fletcher in the other hand can provide defensive cover.

IMO Carrick is not playmaker and not since 2008-09 season where he used to go forward often.

Fletcher was never a DM. His best attribute was closing down opponents and he was all over the pitch (which people call here as Runner). Against Newcastle he played very disciplined role and if can do that regularly then we will have very good cover for Carrick or even better player.

Since 2008-09 season, Carrick plays deep, wins the ball and plays simple passes. That's one of the reason many (who didn't understand his role) bashed him saying he plays only simple passes. For whatever reasons Carrick has stopped playing expansive game, the discussion which we had in FMBase for years and everyone thought it was obvious change in role for him.

Fletcher isn't defensive midfielder, but he can provide cover for defense. He did it so many times now.
I see no point to continue this discussion, sorry.

Many times as in Liverpool away last season and Newcastle at home this season?

Yeah really no point as this was not at all what I said in my first post. Dembele would have been improvement on what we have and for 15 Million it was easy decision. Shame Spurs got him, so we don't be signing him anymore.

Whoever it is playing as our central midfielder, I just hope Fergie would stop fielding Giggs as one. He is a good player to have ON THE WINGS when we are dominating possession to put crosses in, but when we are getting owned in the midfield he doesn't really help much.

Fergie sign a defensive midfielder like a Tiote in january NOW. No way on earth them goals for Spurs would have happened if we still had a Roy Keane or someone help shielding the back four.
