The Manchester United Thread

Arguing Dortmund are currently the best team in Germany might be somewhat incorrect, given they're currently 14 points behind Bayern Munich.

I meant technically, they are currently the reigning champions of the German domestic league winning the previous 2 titles, but I suppose I could have worded it better.

Champion of Bundesliga: 14 points in CL group stage.
Champion of PL: 3 points in the same group.

Clearly Gotze would be leaving to the superior league.

High five.
Nope.
Since Nani contract is issue, and he'll probably be sold, then we need a winger, not playmaker ( Goetze like, we already have Kagawa). But since I hold Nani in high regard, I don't know any other winger who's suited to play on the left.

It depends on how you define best. If we're talking about who you would least like to face in a knockout competition, Dortmund are definitely up there with Bayern and, IMO, a more fearsome prospect. If we're talking about staying power in a season long league, I think it's been mentioned by numerous people from numerous sources that Dortmund's style and intensity doesn't suit playing a lot of games. If you look at both of their Bundesliga titles, they were eliminated from Europe in the first round.

Considering that all they need to do in the league is basically not come 5th, I think they're gonna be ******* terrifying to face in the CL because that pretty much is their season. Same with Madrid.

Gotze has said it has been his plan to leave Dortmund in 2013... I think

No he has a clause that would allow him to be bought out of his contract in 2013. That's no indication that he wants to leave, it's pretty much just a safety net to stop him getting stuck there if things should go awry and he can't play CL football. In fact, Gotze's agent has actively stated that he is happy with the club and has absolutely no plans to use this clause.

[...] Dortmund[...] possession football[...]

(triple post)

Dortmund may play fairly short balls, but I wouldn’t really class them as their style as “possession football”. They’re very much focussed in using the ball to create dangerous opportunities and they lack the sort of slow, methodical, safe passes that most possessions sides are built around.

Their style means they inherently have a good possession statistic (55%) because they don’t just give it away all the time with mindless longballs, but their main approach to the game is not focused around retaining possession at the cost of creating chances. In my mind, a team that plays “possession football” builds its philosophy around the notion of keeping the ball away from the opponent as much as they value having it at the feet of their own players.

That’s what Dortmund have been weak at and it’s what’s totally ****** them in the Bundesliga this year: they just can’t kill off a game. It’s just not in their nature: when they have the ball, they want to attack with it. That’s why they’ve struggled to hold on to so many of their leads.

Why are we ****** linked with Walcott.... not another average player incoming on the flanks.

Gotze is so inconsistent you'd be basically getting another Nani.

It was Kevin Grosskreutz who said that he and Götze might leave 2013 summer at earliest. Götze himself hasn't said anything about leaving.

Well, that's still a £40k increase and as much as I like Danny, he hasn't done enough to deserve that sort of money.

50k is about what we offer on rotation. Which he has certainly earnt

Nani doesnt deserve to be earning more than Rio Ferdinand. Hasnt done enough to go from first team player to key player.

Am I the only one who would prefer Toni Kroos to Gotze? Neither are likely to happen but kroos would add the creativity we need from a deeper position and can play in the hole too. We really need to offload Nani and look for a young replacement though. Any thoughts on Schurrle, or would his price be over-inflated? Muniain is another I'd be looking closely at, his energy and ability on the ball would be a massive improvment and Bilbao seem to be really struggling this year so he could available.

I think people are on about Gotze to play on the flanks if we sold Nani. We have Kagawa for the hole behind the striker and he is one of the best at it so we don't really need Kroos. Although I wouldn't argue, as we could play him deeper.

Oh god don't start inflating Mike.'s Kroos-***** any more.

Of all of those, Muniain would seem the most attainable, but you wonder whether one of the Spanish giants has an eye on him.

Lmao, to be fair he is one **** of a player.

Kagawa is as accomplished on the flanks as Gotze, but it would be a waste of both talents. We have Rooney for the hole so I can only speculate that SAF bought Kagawa as a wide player, cover for Rooney or a commercial investment.

Judging by how many games he has started when available I would assume he was bought to improve the team but no doubt the commercial investment would of been a huge bonus of buying him as well.

I just hope Kagawa can get back to how he started when he returns from injury. Was one of our best players at the start of the season.
