The Manchester United Thread

The commercial thing never really holds weight. If he wasnt Japanese we wouldnt even be talking about it. He is just an outstanding player through the middle and on both flanks, and as a pure attacking CM if needed. He will most likely replace Nani, he would have started over Young if he was fit.

Got to say though I thought Young was superb against City, helped out his fullback effectively and attacked with a real cutting edge.

More of the same please.

So inconsistent its annoying.

Kagawa is as accomplished on the flanks as Gotze, but it would be a waste of both talents. We have Rooney for the hole so I can only speculate that SAF bought Kagawa as a wide player, cover for Rooney or a commercial investment.

I'd say Kagawa was better on the flanks than Gotze for the style United play. Mostly because he's more direct, as well as staying wider.

[h=1]When Shinji Kagawa returns, what will his role be in this Manchester United side?[/h]http://www.thebusbybabe.com/2012/12/12/3757498/when-shinji-kagawa-soon-returns-what-will-his-role-be-in-this

Thought this was quite an interesting read, especially towards the end.

I'd agree about that, For me he sits halfway between the directness of Young and Gotze's intricacy. As well as actually being consistent.

50k is about what we offer on rotation. Which he has certainly earnt

Nani doesnt deserve to be earning more than Rio Ferdinand. Hasnt done enough to go from first team player to key player.

I strongly disagree. He certainly hasn't been doing enough to earn that kind of money so far this season.

So? We've been lucky to have Rio for the majority of his excellent career and we should be making sure we do the same with Nani. It doesn't matter if he deserves more money than a United legend or not, he's clearly become a better player over the past two years and we should be making sure we have him at United for his best years. I don't know how you can say he hasn't done enough either, whether he's scoring or assisting he's been involved in a lot of goals over the past few years and he deserves a new contract.

No at 130k, when we have good options. If he wants to stay fine, but not at 130k and most importantly SAF agrees.

What is going on with Nani? Hardly seen him play this season. Is he on his way out?

But he is Japanese and it's clear that he was signed partly for commercial gain, especially as Park went out at the same time. The Asian market is massive so it will have definitely influenced the decision to sign him. He is a quality player though, and well worth the fee on ability alone. And I agree, he's far more effective on the flanks than Gotze but surprisingly played the majority of games for BVB through the middle while Gotze was pushed wide.

Park went out on coincidence. We tracked Kagawa for a almost a year. We did not choose to sell Park, he wanted to to go QPR. The Japanese aren't gonna suddenly go crazy because he is at United. It's not clear at all. Ferguson only ever talked about his ability on the pitch, it's never been mentioned anywhere by anyone at United that it was partly based on shirt sales. The only implication for this has been from the press. Anything like that is a bonus, and not an actual reason. It's a bonus for other players, why must it be a reason for Asian player? He would have the same commercial benefits as any good player. And I personally I think its generally disrectpectul that people only ever bring up shirt sales as actual reason with Asian players.

Well, you've got to admit that Fergie's not going to come out and say "oh yeah, and we brought this japanese player because we wanted to sell some shirts in, you know, Japan" :P

Zaha is also an interesting option if Nani will leave United.
But will cost a bomb to get him away from Palace. But United are the favourites to sign him atm because they would let him stay at Palace till the end of the year on loan. What about those wingers from Blackpool. Tom Ince and Matt Philips. They impressed me last season when I saw them play against Watford. Defo think Tom Ince could make the step up to the prem

Yes, but its hardly going to be that big a difference that it becomes an actual reason to sign a player. Rooney sells more shirts worldwide tbh. I just think its a cliche thrown out needlessly at Asian players.

How is it disrespectful? Do you not agree that shirt sales will increase with his signature or that of Park Ji Sung? The asian football supporters are fanatical about there own players and when one signs for the biggest club in the world, it is bound to attract more support.

Shirt sales are an added bonus, the fact that he's Asian is the only reason people are talking about it.
Like Mike said, it's just a cliche people like to throw out.

It's disrespectful to say that was the main reason behind signing said player, which is what Mike said.
