The Manchester United Thread

They didn't lose the title this year because of El Classico you know. This year Barca could barely touch them.

Well, considering they had an 18 point lead at the top I don't think Barcelona gave a rat's **** about El Clasico.

@GC - I'd dare say it was Jupp, and not José, who took them down a peg. In the end, Mourinho underachieved at Madrid. That 7-0 aggregate win, on the other hand...

This year Barca struggled with almost every a tad stronger team than, let's say, Zaragosa.

They could be 100 points ahead and they would still desperately want to win the Classico.

cant see why we need him

Because Evra might go to Monaco..

we should offer 16m at most and give them Fabio for a season loan! would be a good deal for us! experience for Fabio!

Have we confirmed any other signing besides that young Uruguayan fullback?

No... I agree that Baines would be great addition, but Thiago and Strootman should be our priorities..

Sure, you always want to win derbies, but it's not like it hurt them in any way. They still waltzed through the league from day one...

Steve Round appointed assistant manager. that's.....a kick in the balls :S

Why's that?

Round is an an excellent assistant manager. We've already lost Weir who took over at Sheff Utd, and now this. makes me unhappy. Hopefully ol' Phil will be given a chance in that spot

I've seen some comments saying Round is worse than your previous AssMan, and when he started working, Everton playing style declined (your form, results, everything). I hope thats not true.

Anyway, seems Strootman is staying in PSV, Thiago most likely wont join, and Lars Bender isn't for sale, much like Marchisio. Say hello to another season with Carrick holding our midfield by himself. I really hope those rummors are not true. Still plenty of time, tho.

Why do you think Thiago won't join? Pretty much all of the rumours are saying it's all but done.

It's all but done? I agree it's all but done. Some Hunter (?) Said that Thiago's deal is already done, and he told that couple weaks ago. Then, he said it's not done and his father want meeting with United. After that, he want meeting with Barca as well. Then there was a rummor about Thiago signing last Friday, and he suppose to be announced yesterday. But that didn't happen. It looks to me he just want better contract from Barca, and if he can't get it there, then he will choose between Bayern and United.
It's all rummors, I know **** about this transfer. This was all twitter/tabloids talk, I don't believe a single word.

The fee is done. Because its a clause that Barcelona cant stop

We agreed a 5 year deal about 100k a week.

But he also wants guaranteed playing time, and wants a similar clause to the Barca one.

Barca have stopped being so arrogant and have finally woken up to the fact he wants to leave and are now desperately trying to get him to stay.

Hunter jumped the gun by saying its done. Coming to an agreement =/= done.

I don't think it's anything to do with trying to get an improved contract, it's for genuine football reasons, hence why he wanted another playing clause putting in; which isn't an issue for us since he walks into our midfield.

Personally get a feeling that it'll happen. All of the reports (which I'm always sceptical of, but since it's all we have to go on) seem to sound like Barcelona are resigned to losing him and are desperate to find a way for him to stay than any real confidence they can convince him.

Well, clauses in Spain work a bit different as far as I know. United could end up paying 25m+ for him. That would be steal as well. Since he said that he loves Barcelona, I doubt he's leaving. I also doubt you can know the fee has been ageed if you don't know someone close to Thiago/United. I would love if that's true whan you're saying.

No, United will pay £15m(18m euros if you want accuracy), but upto £3m more could be on tax. As that is his clause, but we have to deal with tax laws.

The fee is agreed because it's his release clause. It's already been confirmed by Barcelona. It's the only reason we are even in a position to move as it was previously 90m. So doubt is irrelevant. They cannot block the activation of his clause. He also said he wants to play consistently. Leaving and loving Barcelona are not mutually exclusive.

I'm hoping you're right. Signing midfielder of Thiago's ability would be amazing.

Anyway, when's our firts pre season game?

Also, if we sign Garay, I recon Jones will be moved to midfield, and with (possible) signing of Thiago, Carrick wouldn't have a backup, again. It a worrying tought.

Vidic hasnt signed a new contract and has a year left, which is worrying. If we sign Garay then that could be his replacement.

Jones has already stated that his long term role is centreback, in an interview 6 weeks ago.
