The Manchester United Thread

Yeh and as good a player Mata is.. he's not really strengthening our weaknesses. We need a CM and LB urgently, if United can splash that on Mata with Rooney/Januzaj/Kagawa all capable playing of the same position, then they can splash ?30m or whatever it would take for someone we desperately need in a CM position.

Plus Carrick out for roughly 3 weeks... we're near bare bones right now.

Dude you keeping on looking for negatives. Here is my 2 cents on this.

We need CM desperately that doesn't mean we have to stop improving on what we have. Players like Mata won't be available everytime, when they are you just have to take the risk and sign him. I said same last summer. I would be happy if we sign Ronaldo and noone in that window as you don't get chance to sign him everytime. You can wait for a year and address CM issuess but even if you wait for 5 years you won't get chance to sign Ronaldo/Mata.

Is Mata better than what we have? Comfortably. So what's wrong in improving the team when all we can do is try to improve CM dept and end up with no one?

Rumours still abound that Hernandez may leave to either Arsenal or Tottenham.

Read Inter are interested in signing him. I feel he is La Liga bound. Should just swap with Valencia for Ever Banega.

Can't blame him though if he wants out. He deserved more mins than he is getting but he is unlucky that we have Rooney and RVP in the team.

Well, Rooney and RvP haven't been playing recently, but he's still being used mostly as an impact sub. I'm definitely not comfortable with him being sold to any title rivals in the Premier League.

If Inter are interested in signing him, I guess Guarin would be part of any deal? But yeah, Valencia+Ever Banega definitely is a better option.

Actually, Januzaj tracks back decently. It's to his weakness that he loses his head frequently and picks up unnecessary bookings. But that's sure to slowly die out with time/maturity/experience.

With Mata, indeed that can be a mild cause for concern, however it's not hugely worrying. Rooney often commits to it, and should Mata play behind Van Persie, Valencia is likely to play on the right, and he does it well.

Mata will fare well in a free role at no.10, like he did under FSW for us. FSW relieved him of his defensive duties, Mourinho asks for just the opposite that's why he's been sidelined, well have fun watching him. He's a very nice bloke to have around your club.

Regardless of whether is the perfect fit tactically, Mata is a huge signing for United. A statement signing from Woody and his arrival will surely dispel the gloom and rejuvenate the fan-base. Very similar to Ozil for Arsenal. I thought United will get Top 4 before this transfer and now I am virtually certain. Now don't be complete dicks when we come in for Rooney in the summer eh ;)

Well Jose didn't have any problems with playing Ozil and Ronaldo isn't it. I believe it's more than just tactical thing, no proofs or links just a hunch. He isn't the same Jose since he left Inter. Btw he also played Robben and we know how he tracks back.

Btw, I for one don't mind him not tracking back as long as it's not of Ronaldo's proportions. Ronaldo didn't track back at all and his work was shared by none other than Rooney.

Adnan Januzaj – a man for all countries

“I remember him being not as tall and strong as his teammates, but his technique, his game reading and his left foot were so good that he was the best player we had,” Ferreira says. “If I have to define him as a young footballer in a few words: natural class, talent and love of the game. Even with all those skills, nobody thought that he would progress so quickly. Am I surprised that he plays for Manchester United’s first team? Not at all. But so early?! That’s just amazing! His game has taken on another dimension after a few years in England.”

Ferreira, who later became the youngest ever coach of a Belgian first division team when he took charge of Charleroi at the age of 31, gives further insight into Januzaj’s application and professionalism from an early age. “Adnan was a young boy who really loved the game. He was always disappointed when the training session was over or when I gave the players a day off. To give you an example, in 2008-2009 (U15, but he was one year younger) we played our league games on a Saturday afternoon. The Sunday was a day off but I planned a training session for the players who had not been selected and for the ones who didn’t play much. Adnan played every single game from the first until the last minute, but he came to every Sunday session

First of all, La Liga. Second, EPL has changed a lot since then and Mourinho's trying to play different tactical system. One may make any kind of judgement, but the reason for selecting Oscar or Willian as no.10 seems obvious, kids just won't stop running.

Juan Mata grows increasingly frustrated with Chelsea for stalling transfer to Manchester United - Telegraph

How gutting would this be if the Mata thing collapsed? Was it all just a very cruel temptation by Jose lol.

Salah deal is not confirmed yet. Chelsea have announced they have agreed fee and still personal terms and medical are yet to be completed. Rodgers said Salah deal is not done yet and they are talking to Salah's agent. I think Mata deal will be confirmed once Salah is 100% done to Chelsea.

And if for some odd reason Salah chooses Liverpool?

Can Chelsea do that though? Agree the deal, let Mata talk to Man Utd and agree personal terms, then because Chelsea doesn't get a player, they pull out?

Yes. It's an agreement, not yet a contract, so they can do that. Heck, you can do that in FM itself.

Would make one unhappy player, extremely unhappy. Therefore if clubs know how unhappy a player is, can forget any premium price for him.
