The Manchester United Thread

Could just say that United have better strength in depth? Which I think most would agree with.

Completely agree with that - meant to pick up on Mike.'s post in the BBC thread, but forgot...

This:

Both sides were weakened. Barca have a better starting XI, United have better strength in depth. We played very well.

Barca "B" is Barca's reserves. They don't have a Reserve side apart from that - the way the Spanish league system works means that they play in Liga Adelante and act as a seperate, but affiliated club but they ARE reserves.

And 'youngster' suggests a reserve/u18 player, not a first choice player. Wilshere, for example, is no longer a "youngster" but a senior player and regular for both England and Arsenal. Thiago has played 14 times for Barca - De Gea has played over 50 times and is first choice for Utd now. Unless of course you expect Lindegaard and Kuszack to be first choice.

Pointless argument tbh - neither side was a reserve side, they were under-strength first teams with a few youngsters like Cleverley, Welbeck, Fontas, etc.

Yeah pointless argument tbh.. And I do know about their B side lol..I do know they dont have reserve team but have B teams.

I dont consider it as just reserve team as they play in a competitive league.. Its more like Championship team. So comparing it to reserve team is not fair. Technically they are Barca reserves but the league they play in I wouldn't call them a reserve team..

What I dont understand is how do you categorize a player as youngster? I go by age. If Thiago was at Atletico Madrid he would have played same number of games but still he did in a league below. Both are youngsters and have a long way to go..

So is Diouf a youngster? As he has played less than Thiago? No.. So going by games played is not the only way.. ;)

Oh Saw other post now.. That settles it..

Still I dont agree with how a player is called youngster just based on number of games..

It's obviously down to age too. Basically whether they would need to be registered for the 25 man squad - so U21 players - but if they're going to be first choice, or guaranteed regulars, I'm not sure they're "youngsters" any more. They're playing for the Seniors on a regular basis...

You wouldn't have called Messi a youngster 3 years ago.. He made 41 appearances for Barca as a 21 YO in 08/09, and 36 the season before as a 20 YO.

Yeah it work both ways.. So dont have proper defn just like World class maybe?

Anyways it doesn't matter though.. Just a friendly win with both playing Few first team players along with Fringe/reserve players..

I guess so yeah.

And yeah I know - wasn't arguing any more, just explaining my 'definition' because you asked, and it's interesting =)

Lol, I didn't meant to say you were arguing.. I stopped it when you quoted Mike as that was a nice way to put that argument to bed..

maybe cleverley is stepping up to the mark and forcing SAF to think does he really need to delve into his pockets to fork out £35m.

[h=1]Sneijder believes move could happen[/h]
"What will happen? We will see," Sneijder said on Sunday, after Inter were beaten 3-0 by Manchester City in the final of the Dublin Super Cup. "There is always a chance that something will happen, but we will see.

"There is always speculation. I've said before, I've played for almost 10 years at the highest level and every year there is speculation."
Sneijder confirmed that he would be happy to remain with the Nerazzurri, but seemed to suggest that there is still a possibility he will move on before the transfer window closed.
"As you can see, I'm still here," he added. "I'm always happy. I'm a happy guy. I'm just happy to train every day with my colleagues and to train every day and to play my game for the fans.
"I've played in many competitions. I started in Holland, then played in Spain and now the Italian league, and I'm still here.
"We will see what happens but I'm happy here."
However, Sneijder suddenly went coy when asked directly about Manchester United's interest - smiling knowingly before calling an end to the interview.

Brilliant news, I think he makes such a difference when playing as we saw last season when he overcome that horrific injury. Plenty of pace, skill and strenght and his final ball is 9 times out of 10 right on the mark. Top player who is very under-rated at times I think.

Wish Valencia was capable of playing left side also as Nani and Valencia could have swapped wings regularly.

Brilliant news. Just how to rewads players when they play well.. I love the way we offer better terms when the player performs well. We did same with Nani, Anderson too. Next up Chicharito..

Didn't he sign a new deal a few days ago?

Sounds like a young Rooney.
Here's wishing he's even better.

TBH not the same. Morrison issues are off field and lot to do with the the env he grew up. Rooney's issues were with temperment..

oh it was Smalling, I knew one of the youngsters signed a new deal.

MUFC have sent seven players to be involved in the Marseille charity game tonight. Ji-sung Park, Patrice Evra, Paul Pogba, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Danny Welbeck and Tom Cleverley will play tonight.

Fabien Barthez is playing in goal for us tonight and there are rumours that David Trezeguet and Ludovic Giuly will play for United tonight too but those are unconfirmed.
