The Manchester United Thread

I can not see Berbatov going, if he did leave then we would surely have to get a decent striker... and I can not see that at all as a priority. We most definitely need a CM, a real creative force, someone who can light up our midfield and create the play. That will be one of the hardest players to sign IMO, Paul Scholes even if he does not retire I do not think we can rely on him. Apart from Scholes we have no real creative players or naturally Central Midfield creative players like Scholes.

Sneijder has said he is staying at Inter and always seem to look away from coming to England, so I do not see him joining. We have been linked with Ashley Young, IMO not good enough, very 'hit n miss'. If Manchester United got Sergio Aguero (very doubtful) would he fit in to the United system? I am not so sure.

This is who I think we should try and sign to put ourselves in a very good position realistically:

Sneijder/Nasri/Modric/Gourcuff to fill that Scholes role. Like I said earlier we can not rely on Scholes any more even if he does not retire.

Not so sure this whole 'GK' thing is sorted. De Gea is not giving any indication and I can not see how other clubs would not be interested. I recon it will either be De Gea (if everything turns out ok), or failing that I can see it being Akinfeev (not a big fan).

Finally, it will probably be a young player with the potential to be great, we have been linked with Raphael Varane but we have good promising defenders already, Smalling is a fine example. I think we should try and get M'Villa.

Crouch is tall striker, Bale is excellent crosser but still it didn't work that way. Cahill is a short guy but still scores so many headers. What we need is not a tall striker, a complete one like Rooney (If ever we need one)

Kun brings lot the table, he gives us an option to switch to 4-3-3 playing as inside forward, cutting in from left wing. But still i prefer Rossi ;)

We dont have fixed starting 11. Our depth in squad is our strength. We had Cole, Yorke, Teddy, Solskjaer. 4 top class strikers. Fergie loves to have 4 good strikers.

Rooney, Chicharito, Welbeck, Aguero/Rossi/Berbatov would be great with Macheda going out on loan.

And regarding your last bit, I really doubt we will spend that much. De Gea, plus a good CM and other young potentially great player is what we get me thinks..

My point is that it would be a big waste of 40 million and slow down Welbeck (who is ready to be a ManU sub) and Macheda, not to mention Chicharito, and I'm assuming Berbatov is leaving. If he stays it would be ridiculous to spend 40 million on someone who could potentially be your 4th choice (if he doesn't fit in as well as the other three already do into the ManU system, something I could see happening even as highly as I rate Kun). There are other areas that need strengthening before the forward position. The goalkeeper will cost you 20-30 and Sneijder will be 40. I really think you also need a top-level destroyer DM, that would cost 20-30. Then a back-up keeper for 5 million. That's plenty for one transfer window considering the FFP will be kicking in soon.

Barcelona are going to destroy United.

Messi is going to run rings around Carrick then Rio.

Fabio/Rafael will see red as Villa will be too good for them.

Hernandez is not going to see much of Wembley as he will be in Pique's back pocket all game

Right about everything other than the Red Card. Some people need to take their Rose tinted glasses off sometimes and realise that Barca and Madrid are light years ahead of the EPL.

Last time i checked Arsenal were EPL team and beat Barca at Emirates. You can argue a case for Barca being better as they are, but what the **** have Madrid done to put them ahead of all EPL teams other than champions league semi final for the first time in 7 years..

Did you also watch the 2nd leg of the Barca v Arsenal tie????

Madrid would have won the Champions League this year if it wasnt for Barcelona, Mourinho has turned them into a very good side, it was just a shame he thought the world was against him in the semi final

Sure he's made a good side, but has he even met an EPL team yet, other than Tottenham? You can't judge it before you've seen it.

Yes, I watched second leg. Barca needed their 12th man to bail them out.

Bolded part, ROFLMAO, So do we.. First let them win then you can blow the trumpet..

De Gea
Varane
Sneijder/Modric/Marchisio etc (someone in that mold costing 40m)
4th striker if Berbatov goes

not buying a back up keeper: Amos is the 3rd keeper
DE Gea: 19m
Varane: 5m (rising to 10m)
playmaker: 40-45m
4th striker if berbatov goes

no way in **** we will buy a dm for 30 for starters

Macheda is like to be on loan, and welbeck will be 4th striker/inside forward

Play maker for 45M? Thats way too much. I dont think we can get Sneijder as he said twice in as many days that he is staying.

I dont think there is any CM worth that much other than Iniesta.. Read Banega is valued at 12 Million. Superb player..

not say they will cost all the way but he is looking for a world class player there so thats a ball park figure

Here's what I VMed Mike, I'll share it here:

"Curtis: On aguero, we dont really play with height anyway and welbeck and macheda would offer that as back up. even Falcao who would fit what scott was asking for would cost nearly 30m"

You could play with height though, Nani and Valencia send in a lot of crosses. I know Chicharito is great at picking them out and scoring but if you had a tall player who is good in the air it would be a very nice complement to Chicha and Rooney (whereas Kun doesn't really bring anything very new to the table). You do have Welbeck and Macheda though, meaning you shouldn't get another player at all. 30 million is a lot less than 40, but even then you shouldn't be spending tens of millions so that you can bench Chicharito and stunt the development of Welbeck and Macheda. Especially considering the other areas that need shoring up.

Kun would be great for you guys but no way you should spend 40 million on a player to bench your new shining star, and as big as your budget is, you need around 40 million for Sneijder and 20 million on a keeper (I bet that's how much De Gea is costing you though I'm not sure if the numbers are public yet). Then I'd spend 20-30 on a top-class destroyer DM, and maybe 5-10 million on a back-up keeper since Foster's leaving. That's almost a hundred million quid right there, and I think that's plenty for one transfer window. But if for whatever reason you wanted to make one more big signing on top of that (30-40 range) to ensure that you'd be a super talented team, than sign a top-class winger. Then, after all that, if you feel the need for one more striker if Berba leaves (still not a good idea IMO because it would crowd out all the youngsters), he should be some sort of Plan B type, and he shouldn't be 40 million.

We don't need backup keeper. We have Lindergaard and Amos to cover. Ps, Foster left year ago :P

Did Evra drop it? Or was he messing about and taking the ****? ( much prefer the 1st option)

Oh right, forgot. 4-0 on their home pitch after Tottenham recieved an early red card.

The red card was down to the fact Tottenham were becoming fustrated at having none of the ball within the early stages of the game, and the result wouldnt have changed if Crouch had stayed on the pitch.

Excuses from United fans again.
