The Manchester United Thread

Never a red.

Probably 3 games but I imagine we'll appeal.

We can't appeal unless red card is shown because of mistaken identity. Remember Red card for Fletcher which we couldn't appeal?

Why not Rooney ?

Because he was already a regular starter for Manchester United before this season.

I think we were trying to get the red card revoked for Fletcher. You can't do that unless its mistaken identity. I think we can appeal Vidic's ban to be reduced to 1 or 2 games. I think this is how it is. I'm not 100% sure.

But onto the match.
We played poorly. Didn't have any quick build up play that we've seen at the start of the season, and we didn't create much up front. Our defense was the main reason we didn't concede and lose, but that was thanks to a great display by Smalling. Vidic did look rusty but I'm glad hes back.
The ref though was poor. Vidic should never of been sent off, and they should of had a player sent off quite early on in the 2nd half. Only good bit of the ref's performance was spotting the obvious penalties.
All in all, glad we got the win, but not glad how we go it.

Really good performances by Carrick and Smalling. I would probably give MOTM to Carrick.
Anderson and the attack didn't look good bar Nani.

Valencia has stopped going forward with the ball, he doesn't look the same after the CL final.
I would like to see Valencia play in the center at some point, his passing looks good.

Evra looked good but only because he wasn't required to do any defensive work.

When is Cleverly coming back, our build up play will be much better with him.

If possible do one on Petrucci and Pogba :)
The game was a boring 0-0
Petrucci, played well, seemed to control large periods of the game but perhaps lacked the final ball at times and didn't create enough chances (only a few shots on their goal in the entire game)
He came off for Morison on about 65-70 mins

Pogba, first if all, he has a new haircut which is better than the last one ;)
He played well, probably had our best chance from a header from a corner was about 1 foot over. He passed the ball well and dictated the game but still, lacked creativity in the final third IMO. He played the full game.

Oh and Phil Jones was there, and he came speaking to us as we were the only ones in the stand with no roof, LEGEND

Former Manchester United coach Eric Harrison has hailed the current crop of Old Trafford youngsters as the best since the celebrated 'class of 92' which included the likes of Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, and David Beckham.

The coaching guru saw his young United graduates conquer the Barclays Premier League and the Champions League after helping them through the ranks in his role as youth team manager.

"After the so-called class of '92 this is without doubt the best group since then," Harrison told Goal.com. "They've got some outstanding players and remind me very much of my team because they are top-class technical players but they are hungry as well.

"Sir Alex is totally hands-on and without that the club would not have been as strong as it is at the moment. Their work-rate is phenomenal and you have to be like that to cut it at Old Trafford."

Harrison has also identified Tom Cleverley as the pick of the bunch of Sir Alex Ferguson's latest graduates, and backs the 22-year-old midfielder to fill the Red Devils void left by the retirement of Scholes.

"I think a lot of the likes of Danny Welbeck and Tom Cleverley but Tom is the best in my opinion and that is nothing against Danny because I am sure that both of them will go on to be England regulars," he added.

"He is so special because he is supremely fit, 100 per cent committed and he is supremely talented. He has got quick feet and the team look fantastic when he is in the thick of it.

"I don't want to discredit Danny or the others because there are about half-a-dozen top young players.

But for me at the moment Tom is without question so good that he is the best young player at United since Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and David Beckham came on to the scene."

Huge praise from Harrison.

oh and:

A song for City, most of all, but also a song for all those who have suffered under the yoke of Sir Alex Ferguson these past 20 years.

After nearly two decades of oppression, it was the sound of English football getting its own back on Manchester United at last. It was the day when the team that has bullied the rest of the Premier League with the brilliance of its *football and the size of its support since the early 90s felt what it was like to be *humiliated.

The day when Old Trafford was left half empty before the end as supporters raised on glory upon glory streamed away asking each other whether this was the end of the dream time when we were kings.

That was why the jokes started zipping around the internet within minutes of City completing their rout.

“Crisis line for United supporters,” one gag went. “Dial 0161 61 61 61.”

“Thousands queuing to view the body of Jonny Evans at the Stretford branch of Iceland,” another wrote.

Everyone joined in the *merriment. Liverpool fans, Spurs fans, Newcastle fans and particularly Arsenal fans, whose wounds are still raw and bleeding after United destroyed them 8-2 here eight weeks ago. That was an *astonishing result, a result that was interpreted by many as the moment of devastation that could signal the end of the Arsene Wenger era.

And the same happened yesterday. Plenty queued up to bury United and Ferguson and to dance on what looked like a freshly dug grave.

It was only one result but it is hard to deny that it felt like a changing of the guard at the summit of our game.
