The Manchester United Thread

Dont see why Utd shouldnt try to win the Europa League. At the end of the day its still a trophy and pretty good one imo as you still do get some good clubs in the Europa League each season. If Valencia knocked Chelsea out of the champions league on tuesday I would of wanted Chelsea to try and win the Europa League.

If i was man utd i would play all the players who never get a game or are in the reserves to give them valuble european games. However i would put one or two seasoned players in and in the bigger games(man city) i would place a full squad. I hope hanover knock out both the mans.

Manchester United defender Patrice Evra says it is 'embarrassing' for the club to play in the Europa League - Telegraph

Let you draw your own conclusions.

Personally I do see the plus side, with some fringe players/youngsters getting some European football experience. And personally, I wouldn't call it embarassing to be in the EL. Yes Man Utd should've done better, but there are some other big teams in the EL

If its so "embarrassing" then he should have put in a better shift in the group stages. We're in it becuase we deserve to be

Agree with this, but tbh he was honest in that interview. He said we didn't deserve to be in KOs and players didn't play well. He should have avoided that "Its embarrassing to play in Europa" bit.

He was about to leave. It was not as if he yelled at journalist. Oh wait SAF laughed at question? So what?

Journalist who asked him the question tweeted this

AnnieEaves Annie Eaves

And it was a daft question. It was more to do with "Standards slipping in PL" that somehow was turned into fergie stormed out when asked about english clubs struggling in Europe.

'Sat back down and answered it'? Really? Are we talking about the same PC?

And what about the rest of my points? He was being disrespectful to the journo and to the rest of the teams in the group.

Talk about blowing out of proportion. Here are the journo's words.
Matt Slater, has said ; ''SAF didn't really storm off, he was already leaving''

There is no proof that he laughed at "Are you struggling in Europe" it might even be at "Are PL standard slipping" which is a daft question tbh. Just because 2 teams have found themselves in a trouble doesn't mean PL standards are slipping, if anything it is getting harder to win league every passing year.

Even if he laughed at English teams are struggling question, how does it disrespecting other teams?

53Szczesny53Wojciech SzczesnyI don't agree with De Gea criticism. He's potentially one of the best GK in the world but needs time to get his confidence at ManUtd!16 hours ago

He says 'I know we're not struggling', how is he not being disrespectful to the other team he's yet to play? He's pretty much saying he has no concerns about beating them, what is that, a compliment? When he says 'are you serious?', how's he not being disrespectful to the journalist? He might as well call him a ******.

The Europa league is actually a good chance for silverware for Man Utd. Let's be honest, Man City are looking increasingly likely to pick-up the title (it can all change but nonetheless) and there is always going to be tough competition in the FA Cup so this is actually a good chance to get silverware in a season that might otherwise have ended trophyless.

not really. are you serious =/= calling him a ******. A club like united shouldnt have concerns, that isnt being disrespectul. It doesnt mean you dont think they are a threat. The journalist didnt think he was being disrespectful so how can you say otherwise?

If he says we are not struggling in the league, does that mean he is disrespecting every other team? God, are you struggling? No. We are not struggling. How is that disrespecting other teams? You can read between lines and draw what ever conclusion you want to, this is Sunesque.

Matt Slater, Journalist who asked that question did tweet about that. There was a bit of laughter and nothing serious.

Also re your precious post:
'Sat back down and answered it'? Really? Are we talking about the same PC?

Video was edited. They removed the part where he was about to leave. Cheeky journalism.

Re last night & SAF, he didn't really storm off, he was already leaving. He stormed off day b4 to OK question from Mirror. I got a smile!
r we still talking about this Fergie thing? there's storming out & there's storming out. He didn't like question but he didn't hate it

case closed. Even the journalist thinks people are making a meal of it

Of course I can say otherwise, I don't think that's the way to answer a question that, in my opinion, the man had every right to ask. If I had been the one asking I would've taken it badly. Just because the guy is tolerant doesn't mean it wasn't disrespectful.

And he was still being disrespectful to the other teams, namely Basel and Benfica, was he not?

No, because you're 2nd with plenty of games to be played, whereas in the CL you were 2nd with 9 points out of 5 games. Are you going to tell me that's Man utd standard?

If I'm being sunesque you're being Aannddyyesque.

arguing semantics. you arent the one being addressed. he is. he doesnt find it disrespectul. nothing more to it

We are 2nd in the league with 5 points behind, we were second in the group with wanting only draw to qualify. Yeah that was disrespecting. We just needed a ******* point, not like we had to do a Lyon by winning with 8 clear goals.

How is "We are not struggling" is disrespecting other teams is beyond me. Even the person who asked the question clarified it, still you are ignorant about whole incident.

This is... interesting.

1.) All three UEFA Champions League group exits where on:

7th Dec 1994, Wednesday.
7th Dec 2005, Wednesday.
7th Dec 2011, Wednesday.

2.) The last three seasons, they have been knocked out by 'FCB'...

2009/2010: FC* Bayern
2010/2011: FC Barcelona
2011/2012: FC Basel

3.) In the last few months, they have lost all their matches to teams in 'blaugrana' colours...

Barcelona
Crystal Palace
Basel

Sometimes I feel SAF should just skip every Press conference as it is becoming tiresome seeing all these. Some paper printed "Fergie stormed off for a simple question" then starts the mediatarts problems. They wont even have watched the whole video, just comment on it for the sake of it. What ever he does is a mistake.

Edit: This is not directed at anyone.

As I said, he's more tolerant than I'd be, then again, he's still showing a lack of respect for the opposition.

By your standards you were struggling and nothing you say will change that. 9 points in 5 games in a very easy group isn't struggling? And of course it's being disrespectful, he isn't even considering the possibility of losing the match, and it has nothing to do with whoever asked the question, I don't see why you mention it in all honesty.
