The Manchester United Thread

What i want to happen is for us to buy 2 central midfielders. What i think will happen is that Jones will stay in central midfield, and Evans will be a regular for the rest of the season

Evans must be stopped...

Still think Cahill's overrated massively. Decent defender, good on the ball and a good attacking threat, but has been at the centre of the worst defence in the league this season.

Agree with this, good player but I cannot understand all the hype around him.... Plus I doubt Chelsea are interested in him, if we buy him its worrying because a Cahill-Terry CB Partnership is horrendous for the high line we play and I doubt we will spend so much on him just for him to play second fiddle to JT

Got no interest in Cahill, or a centreback at the moment

Main Priority is Midfield for you guys as it should be... if you need a CB to replace Vidic then a experienced CB on loan would be a good idea, someone who can be called upon to do a solid job from the bench

It would only force Smalling or Jones to right back or centre midfield long term, which we don't want. It's clear that we need to prioritise the need for a cm

2 Central mids now. One as competition/cover for Cleverley, and the other cover the holding role option as Jones wont be available to fill in. Might as well make it a quality option to compete with fletcher

I'd feel especially bad for Vidic if Serbia were in the Euro 2012. But still, big blow for Utd imo. The issue isn't defenders though, it's definitely CM's. Imagine the sort of boost the whole side would get if someone like Modric was signed in January.

Thing is everyone seems obsessed with the star name. I'd have taken Vidal and Pjanic in the summer. Total cost: £20m

True that. Wonder why SAF didn't try for Vidal in particular.

I think he tunnel visioned on his three targets (Nasri, Sneidjer, Modric). And then it came down to brinksmanship over Sneidjer and his wages, and we lost. I would have signed Vidal, regardless of what happened with the other targets, but thats just me.

As much as I'd like for United's poor showings to continue, I half hope you do sign a holding midfield player in January just so you remember what it's like to have a player in that position who isn't a total donkey.

For sure. In the interim, i would play an outright 4-2-3-1, Rooney behind Berbatov, Young and Nani driving at goal rather than crossing.

We're talking about real life, not football manager. You may think you know more about individual players than Man United's scouts but you don't. As Gary Neville was saying on tv the other day, Fergie won't settle for a 4th or 5th choice, he'll be patient and get his man. Whether that be Sneijder or someone else.

That doesn't mean Vidal and Pjanic is a bad call, nor does it mean you can't voice an opinion, and it certainly doesn't mean Fergie's 'man' is the right player for the job, either.

Neither am I, nor did i say i knew better. Take that chip off your shoulder. Both players are quality player. Both are young and improving and are an improvement on our current midfield. And Both did actually go to Juve and Roma for a combined price of £20m.

We are actually allowed to discuss alternatives. It is not sacriledge to see if SAF could have done something different

I know, its nonsense. Apparently you cannot discuss playsers unless you are SAF or the scouting team oO)

If you've watched either Vidal or Pjanic even a little, you'd realise that they were massively devalued in the trasfer market this summer

Behind Berbatov? I would rather play Rooney behind someone like Danny Welbeck who has more pace than Berbatov, if Rooney plays in the 'hole' and if you want Nani and Young to drive at goal won't it make more sense to have someone who can beat the offside trap and outpace defenders easily to latch onto balls threaded through by Rooney

I'd use Berbatov dropping off to play in the wide player. In effect im talking about Young and Nani being wide forwards. Though Welbeck is always a good option, depending on who you are up against. One thing is for sure, we are not getting on our crosses, so we need to look at alternative routes
