The Manchester United Thread

Why? Who said that?

We're talking about real life, not football manager. You may think you know more about individual players than Man United's scouts but you don't. As Gary Neville was saying on tv the other day, Fergie won't settle for a 4th or 5th choice, he'll be patient and get his man. Whether that be Sneijder or someone else.

You seemed pretty angry that he dare voice an opinion on the squad. :)

I'd use Berbatov dropping off to play in the wide player. In effect im talking about Young and Nani being wide forwards. Though Welbeck is always a good option, depending on who you are up against. One thing is for sure, we are not getting on our crosses, so we need to look at alternative routes

The only real worry is that Berbatov has never produced for United on a consistent basis, thats why I prefer Welbeck upfront who can offer more than Hernandez and is someone who is having a goodseason so far while Berbatov has hardly played

I guess if I had discussed Fletcher or Macheda with him I'd be sleeping with the fish right now...

Lol, I'm a walkover compared to that. My points stand on those two btw :P. Although Vidal is definitely a better player, and Macheda may yet turn out to be dire, its just too early to judge him either way.

But he has produced at time, often spectacularly so, and there will be games where welbeck wont have an influence, but a player like Berbatov will, dropping deep and playing the players behind and out wide. All about the options.

If fit i'd start Dimi against wolves, they are going to sit deep, and it will likely require a player who can unlock a defence

Time will tell, for those two and for whoever Fergie signs (or not) in January.

I'd agree with you but in the long-term it would be good to mould Welbeck into that role and more importantly if Man Utd do switch to a 4-2-3-1 what would that mean for Hernandez this season, SAF cannot afford to play someone like him as the lone striker because quite frankly Hernadez is not versatile and not really as all-rounded a player as someone like Rooney

you are looking at this too much in absolute. Hernandez would play it similar to Welbeck would, ie pinning defences back and roaming the channels, which he does well. Its about options, not a set rigid plan. Hernandez is also out for a month as well anyway

Latest (I think) on Vidic just keeps getting worse.
Nemanja Vidic faces one year out | Mail Online

(DailyFail I know but still)
Up to a year out. That is just horrible.

Yeah its upto a year (ive seen it be 2 years, think RVN/ole/Brown), but its normally 6-8 months. which puts him back at next season. But we wont know any more till surgery so they are just hyping it, and looking at the worst case scenario

And Rooney is back! Currently on two goals today against Wolves and I am sure there are plenty more to come from him this season.

The standard United backlash after a bad result. Valencia has ripped them apart from the right with his crossing, Nani cutting inside from the left into the heart of the side, its been brutal.

First time in many years, I have seen United playing really well after Champions league game.

Carrick is such a class act and so underrated. He is such a important player for us and Jones was in usual beast mode.

Utd needed a good win like this. Havent look great in the league their last few games and ofcourse after what happened midweek. This win could kick start Utds season now. If Chelsea dont win the league which I cant see happening I would rather see Utd win it then City ( Dont want them doing what Chelsea done and win the league after buying alot of good players :P)

I can't believe, Rio showed good work rate in this game. I haven't seen that in a while. Also, I'm very happy to see Nani's unselfish play and his thanking Valencia for assist. Rooney always had good game ( regardless if he scored or not) bar Basel. Where are those who said Carrick sucks ? I always preferred Valencia over Ash Young. Nani and Young are similar ( both cut inside and play through ball or take a shot). Valencia is hard working classic winger who's got great pass and great cross and he gives us one more option in attack, not to mention his distribution in defence. De Gea has great shot stopping skills, but he need sto work with his calming crosses. Welbeck was solid, good work rate but he still needs to get little more sharper. Jones was tank, as usual. Evra good, solid, without mistakes and out worst player on the pitch was Smalling, couldn't cope with Jarvis' pace and they looked dangerous everytime he stayed 1-1 with Smalling.
Macheda needs to get match practice, Fryers needs to work on his body strength and position.
Summa summarum: Very pleased with our performance, but still we need a wc holding midfielder.

Missed the game after Nani's goal. Valencia getting his confidence back?
