The Manchester United Thread

Distinctly average performance, but 2 away goals and a clean sheet. Just what was needed.

Evans was Brilliant again! Didn't put a foot wrong! And as Sunil said good match time for Cleverley,Jones,Nani and Young! Nani needs to improve his decision making and I hope for God's sake that Valencia is OK! Typical European Performance but a Great Result!

And Porto are leading City 1-0. More reason for you to rejoice.

You're telling me that you aren't just a little bit happy that Man City are losing?
That's not the point. Point is that's pointless talking about City in United thread. Ok, there's few exceptions, but their game vs Porto isn't one.

1. Nani is Theo Walcott with more footballing ability.

2. Valencia is Theo Walcott with brains.

3. Now, if only we found a way to put Valencia's brain in Nani's body, or even Dimitar Berbatov's brain in Danny Welbeck's body. Hmmm....

4. Great to see Tom Cleverley back. Love his short intricate pass and run moves. If he stays fit for the rest of the season it would be great for our title challenge. I can see see Cleverley, Rooney and Welbeck opening up defences with those intricate one-twos.

5. If Paul Scholes hadn't retired for the first half of the season, would Man Utd still be in the Champions League? This is a rhetorical question. Of course we would be! If the Great Ginger Ninja had started last season's Champions League final we would have thrashed Barcelona 3-0! Sir Fergie just wanted to make it a bit more challenging for the youngsters. (Unfortunately, they failed)

I disagree with these 3 points.

1. Nani is much more complete player and its an insult to compare him to Walcott.
2. Same as point 1. Both these players are much better than Theo and they are not even same type of players.

3. If you put Valencia brain to Nani, then Nani will become player like Valencia. He wont think outside the box. He wont come up with magical moments. Nani's decision making is at times erratic but his footballing brain is class above many of our players. And there is nothing wrong with Danny's footballing brain, he just needs to be bit more selfish.

Vidic will be back before the end of the season according to the Daily Mail and Mirror.

No, he isn't. Theo Walcott is a wide forward, with his mediocre dribbling skills and tendency to come inside whenever he can offset somewhat by his decent finishing. Nani is a proper winger, two-footed, a brilliant dribbler and a decent creative attacker.

2. Valencia is Theo Walcott with brains.

Even more wrong. As I said, Walcott's a wide forward, whereas Valencia is a truly classical winger, arguably the best classical winger in the world.

3. Now, if only we found a way to put Valencia's brain in Nani's body, or even Dimitar Berbatov's brain in Danny Welbeck's body. Hmmm....

Yeah... so what? If you put Ji-Sung Park's brain in Ibrahimovic's body he'd be the best player ever.

Good as he is though, his defensive positioning needs work. He's not at the level of Scholes and particularly the excellent Carrick in his defensive positioning, and as he is an attack-minded midfielder his tackling's not good enough to cover his positional faults. That said, he's very impressive.

Guys I just saw my friend post this! I don't agree with those either! I just think that Nani can improve his decision making little bit like valencia, that's all!

Exactly, Cleverley should improve defensively. Carrick is the only CM in our ranks with very good positioning sense and no wonder with him back we are not conceding more shots on target. Early season when we missed him we used to concede around 20 shots on target per game, now it has reduced drastically.

Defensively he was always solid, but this season he is more confident on the ball. One of the reason why ManUtd fans are not scapegoating him anymore.

Less to do with scapegoating and more to do with the point he was actually pretty average for about 18 months until the latter stages of last season, even SAF and Carrick admitted that

Yeah but that was not really the point of my post. But in last 2 years whenever we lost, Carrick was blamed no matter what. There were many players who were average, but it was always Carrick who got more stick.

When you make a mistake in his position, its exacerbated. When you play poorly his position its exacerbated. That's why he got the stick. Some positions are far less forgiving that others

Yes, but I'm not talking about that, people expect him to do some FIFA stuff, he gets slated for maintaining possession by playing simple passes. Many expect him to make Scholesesque passes everytime. Even today I have seen people criticizing Carrick saying "No wonder he plays only sideways or backward passes" when someone brings up his passing stats. They failed to see how he helps in retaining possession.

When talked about his interceptions, "Even traffic cone would have done that if placed in the midfield" excuse. Tbf, I have not seen any player getting so much stick even after playing key role in winning titles.

He was always made the scapegoat for the past 2 years even when there were worse players than him.

Also regrading your last post about Carrick has been pretty average for 18 months, yes he was average but his defensive game was always better than any midfielder we had. For some reason people never mention that. They want Carrick of 2006-09 everytime when clearly there was a role change for him in the last 2 and half seasons.

It wasnt just a role change, he also wasnt playing well. He admits this.

Never said he didn't. There were players who performed worse than him, but Carrick got more stick than anyone.
