The Manchester United Thread

Modric for me is the player Utd need to fully replace Scholes. If Spurs don't get Champions League then Modric will most definatly be on the market this summer without a doubt. Utd will face competition from Chelsea though (if we make Champs League) i know that much.

The thing that really needs to be considered is experience, Neither Gaitan or Hazard have any major league experience (Granted France is on the rise). Modric has been consistently good in the EPL for the past 2 years, he values possession and holds onto the ball just like the ginger prince. IMO its a no brainer since Scholes came back we have really dominated possession and tempo and I cannot see anyone (Outside of Xavi) who could come in and perform that role.

Modric would be very expensive though. Spurs have a high change of getting into the CL. They have a great squad which can really push on and be legitimate title contenders. Daniel Levy will fight very hard to keep him and the price would be astronomical

Might as well go for someone like Javi Martinez

One thing i always believe and have heard from many experts i.e Andy Brassell is that the French game is the most simular to the English game so the transition for players is not as hard.

Hasen't he been playing Centre Back and doing a very good job there? Spending 40odd million on Modric would be well worth the fee in my eyes and im someone who didn't want Chelsea paying that much for him at the start of the season.

I'm just going with whats logical, Modric is a proven EPL performer. I havent seen enough of Martinez to comment but I was of the opinion that he sits a little deeper in midfield then Modric. There would be no England adapting required from Modric whereas all these others may require a bedding in period.

I am not disagreeing with you. I am just saying that Modric looks to be an unrealistic target expecially if Tottenham are in the CL next season which looks likely

Yes, Javi would be a good signing - But again you are missing the point that Jono suggested. NO EXPERIENCE. He played once in the 2010 world cup. Modric is already settled in the premiership and is cemented as one of the best central midfielders in the league - arguably the world. Yes he would cost a lot of money - but It (He) is worth it. I would rather see united spend 40 mil on Modric than take a chance on Javi for 12-20 mil.

Chelsea had a bid of 40m rejected for Modric in the summer and at the time Tottenham were not even in the CL. If tottenham get into the CL this season then Levy will again fight tooth and nail to get him and his price would well and truly amplify.

Well the whole Redknapp to England thing is a potential spanner in the works. I've heard a few times that Modric staying is dependent on CL Football and Redknapp's future. He may be available, he wont be cheap but he will certainly be worth it.

Javi would settle fast, if you watch Bilbao, he has no problems being combative, or playing at a quick tempo; In fact he is actually too combative, good luck to whichever oppo player tries to bully him with a hard tackle if he was to come to the Prem, he'd get smashed back twice as hard.

Modric at 40m is a no brainer. Find me another playmaker of his class for less than 30 and they become alternative. But the truth it, players of his calibre are few and far between. So if there is a chance of getting him, it should be taken.

Martinez isn't a playmaker either. More a mix of Carrick and Roy Keane.

Harry made up that last offer, it wasnt 40m.

That is if Modric is even availiable for 40m. Chelsea had a bid for him rejected in the summer. Agreed that 40m would be well worth it for Modric but it seems that his price would well and truly be astronomical especially if Tottenham make it into the CL

Doesn't look that likely atm, doing their best to throw it away.

And lately someone more defensive than that, playing more like the Mascherano role playing CB but can do things midfielders do.

Martinez I think is one of those players that could be moulded however you like him, he could definitely become a playmaker. I'd like to see him in the premiership soon, preferably at Liverpool, but that won't happen.

In an ideal world we would get both. But its very unlikely atm.

Maybe but I do recall that we bid 30+m for him the last summer. Our side would have been soooo much better had he joined.

I have no doubt in saying we would be in the top 3 and Torres would have at least 15 goals and i don't care if anyone disagrees they can do one lol.
