The Manchester United Thread

I can't help but feel that Fergie's got his hands tied a lot of the time by the owners... They seem reluctant to invest.

Were United linked with him before he went to Juve?

We spent 16m on young at the same time (spent 50m that window) so the money was certainly there.

De gea had quality game tonight against barca was united second best player behind scholes imo, must admit we did look pretty solid tonight but just lacked that little bit of quality in final 3rd. How did ando play missed some of game because was football training?
He played fairly well, solid in defense, strong going forward. His passing was ok, most of them went straight to Scholes XD
But he had few very good diagonal passes.

Sounds promising just needs to get his fitness up and stay there. Did we start 442 mate?

Think RVP will have to propper stomp his feet before arsene sells to us.

Where would RVP fit into our team if Kagawa and Rooney are in it as well. I know RVP is a great player but I think it is such a risk considering his injuries and we do not really need someone in that position at all.

If we end up signing RVP (which I have my doubts) and do not sign a CM, I will be absolutely livid, how Fergie can not see how we do not need another is beyond me.

A choice between PSG (big spending atm) in a mediocre French league or Manchester United in the best (arguable) league, no way PSG was the right choice if it was not about money, he will be forgotten soon over there.

To be honest it seems playing for a club like Manchester United does not enter a player's mind, a year ago this would of been a no-brainer for Moura.

Anyway Fergie sign Nuri Sahin (don't miss out on this one like you did with Vidal and others), or risk going into the season with a very average central midfield considering what we should be challenging for.

You sound terribly bitter.

What does everyone think about RVP to Man Utd?
To me it's a worse deal then Moura would of been. With RVP we need him to perform to be of value, if not it'll just have been a waste of money. Moura we could of at least given him a year or two to get used to the football style before he starts performing good and being of value.

What? So paying less for a player who's proven himself is more of a risk than a 19 YO Brazilian moving to the league, because he gets an extra year? Makes sense.

RVP had one good season where he was the focal point of the team. The other season's he wasn't prolific even when he had an arguable better team playing alongside him. It was his first time scoring over 30 total goals, and only the 3rd time he had scored over 20 total goals. Now considering that he only played well when he was the focal point suggest that's the role he's good in. He isn't going to play that role at United. So he needs to play well in a position that he didn't excel in and be worth the £20million+ that we pay for him to be of any value. He needs to perform.
Now with Moura, least he isn't a finished product. He would of been allowed to make a few mistakes in his first year. And during that first year he'd be learning the United way, learning how the game is played in England and getting better. Plus we have the added benefit of being able to make some sort of money from him even if he turns out to be a flop.

So yeah, the extra £10million or so would of been worth it to spend on Moura.

Neither are worth it.

The only reason you would join PSG over United is for non-footballing reasons, such as living in a nicer place with more things to do and of course the money. There is no way the French league compares to the English Premier League. Infact it would struggle to be in the top 5 leagues in Europe. Not to mention the French league is pretty much a one team league now, so where is the real competition going to be.

Not to mention how does PSG fit in with the FFP rules, it won't be much of a project if they get kicked out of Europe in a few seasons.

No I am not bitter, I just hate how money is dictating the game now, the passion of football is being lost and playing for clubs like ourselves most players would dream of, but now you can get youngsters where other clubs funded by big daddys can get them due to the money they offer (more often than not), or the location of the club (yeh right of course, how far is it to get from Manchester to Paris if he really wanted to be there in his spare time, when you consider training/travelling and matches, you won't get much spare time anyway).

I have no reason to be bitter though, United didn't really need him, but I would be telling a porky if I said I was not disappointed in losing out on yet another one of our targets.

How many chances does Fergie want to get a CM though, Vidal was on a plate to go in and get when he was up for grabs, maybe United would not of got him anyway but you would of had a chance. Now you have Nuri Sahin who is practically being pushed out the door by Mourinho, saying he can leave. Nuri is top class and if we miss out on him then I really think Fergie/scouts have lost the plot completely. The money has obviously been there, Kagawa, Berbatov etc. Going for someone like RVP and not a CM like Nuri Sahin is madness and just plain poor.
