The Manchester United Thread

City just bought Rodwell for £15m, guess was to expensive for us or what? I'm totally confused right now.

another midfielder that spends more time on injury table for first team ,no thanks let him rot on city bench and play cup matches. And if its 15 mil give half of it too moyes he will find 2 replacements for that position of equal quality.

Let him rot? You mad bro? He's got the potential to be an excellent player for England if he can get his niggly injury problem sorted out. Letting him rot on the bench is just absolutely absurd and will be an absolute travesty. Same for any player

Don't be bitter about it, he's a good player, he's been unlucky with injuries. 15m is pretty decent business for Everton mind you.

Who's bitter? Obviously I'm gutted he's leaving us, like I've stated I'm just hoping he's not going to be underutilised. Besides, right now there's no word as yet on how much of the money is going to be available to spend. If he gets proper playing time, I'll be happy for him. If not, that's when I'll start getting annoyed.

I can see why Fergie would want to stay away from Rodwell due to his niggly injury problems, but he would be much more use to us than RVP would. If he did get over his injury problems he could be a top player.

However I can't see why Fergie appears to be doing nothing regarding Sahin at the moment, such a good player who Jose has said can leave.

Dont have any grudges or doubt the lads potential but where you think will he get playing time in city lineup ? I meant agreeing to sign with city knowing you need playing time at this time of his carrer is sucidal hence let him rot if he wants too.

Well, if the rumoured transfer of De Jong happens, he'll get some there that's for sure as Mancini wants to develop him into a DM. And as he can play CB, he can be a temporary cover as and when required-though obviously he's far better in midfield. If he mark Silva out of a game he's more than ready to play whenever Mancini sees fit tbh. He wouldn't have gone to City to be a bench warmer thats for sure-he's not that sort of player. if he was offered more playing time at somewhere like Utd, but with less money, he would've gone to Utd. He's not prepared to sit by-he knows he needs the playing time if he wants to be an England regular.

Apologies to Utd fans for discussing a City player lol

Gone to be Barry's, long term replacement, and probably De Jong's immediate replacement. Think his niggly injuries might have put us off, although we are chasing RVP so I'm not sure. Frankly I'm starting to get a little bit ****** off with SAF if we dont buy a centre mid.

Yeah it's like was mentioned before, that it was surprising SAF didn't go for him. If he is over his injury problem, Fergie will have missed out on an absolute gem. And RVP isn't much better right now injury-prone wise. And if he does have around £25 million to spend, the chances of putting in a bid for Fellaini are slim?

It makes it even more irritating when Jose Mourinho comes out and says Nuri Sahin can leave. How much more of an invitation does he need to buy a CM, absolute class player and would fit into United so well, would not be too expensive either.

I'll be honest its a bit inexcusable from SAF, going to have a hard time justifying RVP over a centre mid.

Maybe. Though I'm going to wait and see what happens. I've very rarely criticised SAF before, and I just have a sneaky feeling he's got something lined up that no-one knows about. Though admittedly, if he had have put in a bid for Fellaini (or Rodwell) he would have killed two birds with one stone, owing to the fact he's started playing upfront as an attacking option and not just in midfield.

The issue for most United fans is not that he is buying RVP, but that so far he isnt buying a CM. This is an area that cost us the prem, CL and EL.

Tbh it's not just CM that's the problem. Evra showed last season that the FB area is a cause for concern too-made horrific mistakes and was out of position. And Rio isn't going to be playing every game, and Jones is still learning too. I think the squad is finally beginning to creak in a few areas, as some of the players are still young and learning and maybe feeling the pressure

I am fully convinced of Smalling's ability to be Rio's replacement, I think eventually he can be better than Rio, should definitely be a good partner with Vidic.

However the LB area is a problem, but I do not think it is as big a concern, hopefully it was just a shaky season for Evra, we do not know how much he was effected by the racism row etc.

The CM is the biggest issue, how Fergie has not addressed this yet is beyond me, plenty of options out there. Nuri Sahin the best one imo, but you could even turn to someone like Moutinho. Signing RVP would be ludicrous if we do not sign a CM.

Yeah have to say Smalling stands out head and shoulders as a definate replacement for Rio. Have been mightily impressed by what I've seen of him so far and he's going to get a **** of a lot better. England star in the making

Agreed completley with that.

Could be another difficult season for United (by their incredibly high standards).

Rio was out of this world from 2006-09. He was the best CB, so if he becomes anywhere near the player Rio was then the 10M spent on Smalling will be the best 10M we have spent.

I have no doubts about Smalling, Evans ability at all. If Jones can improve then we are all set in that dept as they can only become better player with games. Not to forget Keane who was superb for reserves.
