The Manchester United Thread

Still though.. It does not mean Arsenal will accept anything lower than 20-25m pounds for him to move

I understand your point on depth. But surely the ability of both RVP/Rooney dictate that Fergie find some way to put them both into the team. Also its not about whether people talk about it or not.. You can't deny its a major worry

Look RVP is a quality player. I don't have anything against him. I would have loved him at Chelsea. My main point of gripe is that United are spending money on areas where it is not needed. They have enough quality strikers to cover for Rooney. Even if that was a worry.. Surely there are better options availiable to provide depth than RVP

Plus Rooney wasn't even having a particularly outstanding season, competition will do him well. We didn't have adequate cover for Rooney's role last season, even though we probably will start with both, now even if 1 gets injured we can play 1 behind Welbeck, or Kagawa behind 1 of them. Most people from the outside says we need a midfield, but Fergie works with them every day. Cleverley has talent, and he was taken out by a crunching tackle rather than anything serious. If it's true Anderson could feel something in his knee in pre-season last year, but he feels great this year, it's arguably his first pre-season where he's fully raring to go, and his obvious ability to come through. Fletcher may return at some point in the season, so that's 3 quality midfielders to add into the mix that we basically didn't have last year.

I'm buzzing for the start of our season :D just hope we get our defenders back to full fitness asap

whats this powell like i hear some one say give him 6months and he will be ready for the first team

nah, saw him pre-season, he looks decent but needs 1st team experience! needs to be loaned out, Fergie might play him then realise that..

Don't think scoring goals was ever a problem. Also I doubt two strikers in your squad can hit 25 goals each. Be realistic.
We will soon have the top two goalscorers in the league last year who managed over 50 league goals last year.

Young will score 10 goals? Lol he will need to get enough time on the pitch first with all the players you have

I said 8-12 and he got 8 last year despite missing a decent chunk of the season

Really don't know why you seem so confident of winning the league... All of your rivals have significantly strengthened their weaker areas. All you have done is add more quality to an area already packed with quality and not solved the problem areas.

We were poor last year but only lost by a last minute goal and end-of-season implosion. Vidic is back and City have only signed Rodwell (so far). Arsenal are massively weakened by selling RVP and possibly Song. Whilst Chelsea have bought big, is it enough to close a 25 point gap from last year??

Fergie says RVP will be available for game at everton monday night at press conference at 1 today at sponsorship deal with bwin.

Yes mate new betting partners with united but dont know how much its worth.
When you say new sponser do you mean like just for advertsing purposes (like Audi on the bench?) or sometin more serious like naming rights to old trafford?

Just official united betting partners now so can be advertising and so on also gives them the right to put betting office at old trafford stadium with bwin plastered all over it, and will be on MUTV **** loads aswell.Nothing to do with naming rights mate.

That does not mean they will do it again this season particularly as neither of them will be the focal point of the team anymore

Most of his goals came in the first half of the season when you were running riot over every team. Doubt he can score 10 goals this season particularly as with the players you have bought, he will not be getting as much time on the pitch

City don't need to sign any players as they don't really have any 'weak' areas in their team unlike Man Utd. And it makes no sense to compare Chelsea's last season with this. Last season we changed manager and we diverted our focus away from the EPL towards the end to concentrate on winning the FA Cup and Champions League. We will be serious contenders this season with the players we have

Well Telegraph are saying 15m up front, 7m add-ons, + 1.5m if United win the CL in next 4 years.

United will likely go back to 2006-2009, which doesn't require a truly creative CM, but it will require Anderson keeping form, or another busy CM.

And Anderson not getting injured like he usually does. Still think its a massive gamble to rely on Anderson maintaing form and keeping fit throughout the season. Either way you look at it, I am sure everyone would have preferred to spend that money on a CM not a striker

RVP was not the signing we needed as we had good strikers but he is clearly better than all the strikers we have except Rooney. You don't get chance to sign a player like RVP every season, if anything ManUtd with RVP >> ManUtd without RVP.

Coming to midfield issues, did SAF said we are not signing anyone? No. So for maybe Gill is working on that too, but we have to offload few players first.

Few might not rate ManUtd midfield, but that doesn't mean SAF doesn't. Cleverley is clearly talented and I don't remember him having a bad game when he played for ManUtd or England (even yesterday he did well against Italy).

Carrick is our best CM and one of the best in the league at what he does. You can see the difference in England's ability to play passing game with Carrick in the side.

Anderson: Very debatable but SAF trusts him, that's the reason he didn't sell him when Anderson wanted to leave (Which Fergie confirmed last season). When not injured, with run of games he always did well and I'm expecting him to step up this season. And pre season games showed he has matured and knows when to play killer ball and when to keep it simple. He has very god physical attributes too, very strong on the ball. He loves playing one twos and with Kagawa and Cleverley in the side, it will only improve his performance.

Scholes: Even at his age there is no doubt he has the ability to control the tempo. He struggles against big teams, which is more to do with our 4-4-2/4-4-1-1 tactic. He can still do the job in 3 man midfield against big teams and in 2 man midfield against smaller teams.

We can do with one more CM, someone who can win the ball as we have plenty of creative players, but it won't be end of the world if we can't get one. Signing Kagawa will address our last year problem of creating from middle rather than only from wings.

With Rooney, RVP, Nani, Valencia, Kagawa playing most of the teams plays on back foot. That's how teams feared when we had Ronaldo, Tevez, Rooney.

I was against the signing of RVP but you can see why SAF was so keen on signing him. World class player and we haven't signed one in last 10 years.

To be fair buddy he wasnt saying that that this partnership will score that much, he just stated that they were the highest scorers in the laugue

And so will United, in much better shape than Chelsea, lets be honest.

Young picked up his injuries during the second half of the season.

This is the second time in 3 years Rooney has scored 25+, and the other year was downing to lack of fitness and injury for the first half of the season, and still matched the scoring rate with 14 goals.

You didn't divert focus, you just were not good enough in the league.

Gill has said we are looking to make one more signing, so we shall see what happens.
