I'm disappointed that we didn't thrash them, they were certainly asking for it, but the 3 points is what really matters. I thought Sir Alex was a little harsh not to give Powell a run out for the last 15-20 minutes.

Powell impressed me against Chelsea. Think he will go on to be a very good player in the future

Valencia has been poor this season. He hasn't played to his strength at all.Why is he Coming inside is beyond me when he is actually better at going past his marker and cross the ball. His crossing has been poor too..Nani when he came on delivered a cross which was for me the best cross from our wingers all day..

He has been told to cut inside more....i think they are starting to go back to him on the wings a bit more now (after the diamond experiment) but i believe he was told to cut inside more and directly run at people, thus making him able to fit into the diamond as more of a AM than a WG.

Hope that makes sense, it does it my head lol!

All our wingers have been poor whole season. After watching anderson come of the bench and perform like that was special. The guy needs games badly.I think we should play the diamond more if our wingers continue their miserable form and get Welbeck and Persie forward with Rooney as Amc and Carrick as dmc with anderson and cleverley as Midfield duo.And anyone knows how many penalties has rooney missed in his United career ? Guess around 10-15.I am never confident rooney to convert when he takes it anyways.Persie should take them more i guess.

Most of our wingers have been poor yes, but Valencia would break into any side in the Prem this season aside from Chelsea and City, he has been playing well but just has not hit his stride like he did last season. He will though I'm sure. But Yes Young and Nani have been ***** (and I hope Nani will leave but that is just my opinion)

I've never been a massive Nani fan. I reckon his value's probably a lot higher than his actual worth to the team. United can get a tidy sum out of him and reinvest it into getting something the team needs, like a defensive midfielder and perhaps a replacement winger.

I am not a fan of Nani in particular but I think we need a different type of winger. Valencia is consistent, does his thing well most of the time but he's really one dimensional player. When the opposing fullback is able to resist him like Santos did he's a bit useless and maybe that's why he got subbed. He had no ideas what to do when cutting inside and looked a bit lost to me in those cases. That's OK I guess because he is the player he is and at his age he can't really develop skills of a player like Nani.

But if we play with wingers and sell Nani we need that kind of player who's able to do more than just get past his man and deliver a cross. He's able to actually dribble rather than just knock the ball and outrun a man, cuts inside and is more creative when being inside of the field, can shoot from distance (not effectively lately but...), and can finish as well (remember Antonio's miss against Chelsea - it was ridiculous). So I'd be happy if we buy a replacement possessing some of those skills (hopefully all of them) in case Nani leaves.

I hope I wasn't too harsh on Valencia, he's a good player and I like him, just commenting objectively...

Yes, I completely agree, however at the moment it seems fergie as been favouring a diamond formation lately, at least more than he has as far as I can remember in his career so I would definitely would invest a defensive midfielder tbh, a proven one at that as well, like perhaps Vidal. Do you think it would be possible for United to do a cash plus Nani exchange for Vidal? Do you think Juve may go for that kind of deal? ( I have heard that Juve are interested in Nani, that's why I ask)

I would like Jesus Navas. Nani is great, just inconsistent. If he doesn't sign new contract, then sell him and get some other tricky winger. Problem is, there isn't anyone as good as Nani out threre..

Agreed on the second part, but you're being incredibly harsh on Valencia, especially when you consider that he created the first goal by, uh, cutting inside and making space for Rafael. Not to mention he had the measure of Santos all game, and completed twice as many dribbles as anyone else on the pitch. He wasn't at his best, but he certainly wasn't useless. That's the thing about Valencia, when he's playing badly he's still able to offer a lot to the team, which can't quite be said for Nani.

But I think the thing to really remember is that Valencia's best used in tandem with another type of winger on the other side of the pitch. In this case Young, in a perfect world someone who's consistently quality (come back to Villa Ash, we still love you even though I predicted this might well happen) and perhaps in a realistic world Shinji Kagawa.

Nope.

The window of opportunity for Vidal has, sadly for United fans and hilariously for me when I point it out to Mike., passed.

Navas? He's very similar to Valencia, and also leaves you a little bereft of true left-wing options. Young would be the only one left.

Navas isn't classic winger like Antonio. He is tricky and has a solid shot. But yes, he's a right winger naturally. Would he adopt to left wing, I don't know. I'm not a fan od Gaitan nor Rodriguez, and I don't now any other promising winger that can play on left and who's available.

I haven't checked the stats, it's just that I wasn't really happy with his miss. If he had scored it would have been 4:2 and at least they wouldn't say we won by a goal from offside. And about cutting inside I meant all that having in mind the case when he's on the ball, not off it. I apologize but the idea was not to criticize Valencia. My comments were more towards the fact that if we sell Nani AND continue to play with wingers we would need a replacement winger (missed that he needs to be able to play on the left) instead of a DM (not saying we don't need a DM). So I just outlined the things the replacement would need and which Valencia probably isn't best at.

EDIT: And he by no means created the first goal, just freed the space for Rafael. If anyone Vermaelen created the goal. But it was excellent movement from Valencia anyway!

No, no, I totally agree. I was just pointing out Valencia's strengths yesterday to counteract your criticism of him.

9 goals and 3 assists in 12 games (if I'm not mistaken). Can we all agree now that £24 million for Van Persie is a steal? Him and Rooney already appear to have a great partnership, and there isn't a team in the league that can stop the 2 of them when they're on form. Secondly, as perhaps expected, I've seen the Twittersphere explode with more comments about United having the referees in their pockets and other such nonsense. Regarding the 2 big decisions yesterday, the penalty and the red card, does anyone actually have any complaints? Cazorla's hands were raised up, which you just can't do, and Wilshere had had a yellow card, and a warning already. Therefore, correct decisions.

Lastly, regarding Man City's draw with West Ham yesterday. Is this not the kind of game we've been seeing United scraping out 1-0 wins out in for years?

Speaking as an Arsenal fan:

1. Wilshere was on his last warning, it was his next foul, enough said.
2. Cazorla was hit and miss, technically it was very close to him but it did hit his hands, and importantly his hands were up to protect his face. Don't think you can do that and expect it to go your way.

And of course RVP is amazing, he's just very, very composed and has great technique, so tends to use his good movement and doesn't seem to get flustered in front of goal so puts a lot of them away. I think he'll be the difference this season for United and it's pretty exciting watching Rooney play behind as more of a provider.

Second yellow was just Wenger's fault on not taking Wilshere out after his warning.

I don't think it was a penalty. His hands weren't raised to block the ball more than to just cover his face. It would have been much different had his hands been over his head or out wide. In the end Rooney missed the pen so no harm was done.

Also it shouldn't have been corner which lead to the penalty as RVP was offside when he took that shot which Mannone saved. So linesman's mistake lead to that penalty.

We're not allowed to call RVP good value until he wins us a trophy!

If we're employing the refs, then the lino for the West Ham match needs a 2 week fine for disallowing Nolan's goal. Poor performance.

I just laugh at the people who say United pay refs. Honestly as a neutral I find them hilarious. They use the same excuse every time when they lose. Honestly think United will win the league this year by a good 7 points
