The Manchester United Thread

My quick thoughts on who I would prefer to face out of the selection tomorrow for the Champions League Draw round of last 16: -

Real Madrid: - Despite their lacklustre domestic campaign I do not want to draw these as I think they are the toughest out of the possibilities.

Shakhtar Donetsk - This is an opponent I think could really make us struggle, when I think of this I go back to Bilbao last year in Europa League. High tempo/high pressure and ideally I would like us to avoid these for this round.

FC Porto - Yet again dangerous opposition, they would relish playing United and are unbeaten domestically. Some very good players in their team such as Joao Moutinho, James Rodriguez, Jackson Martinez etc. can really influence a game. Not who I would want for this round.

AC Milan - Reshaped, lost many good players and seem to be adopting a system that takes more advantage of the wings. Stuttered in the campaign at the start but seem to be picking up form now but I think this would be a good time to face Milan. My third preferred choice of opponent.

Celtic - On paper you would definitely pick Celtic to draw in the last 16, however due to how well they have done in Champions League this season and how much they would relish playing us, I really think it could be a sticky fixture. Neil Lennon has really done a good job this season in the Champions League demonstrated against Barcelona, a result no one would expect. However you can't deny getting Celtic would still be a pretty nice draw for us in the last 16.

Valencia - Domestically really struggling, they do not seem to have a settled starting eleven and I still think departing with Unai Emery was a mistake, I rated him very highly and did not understand the dismissal personally. However they do have some good players and could prove tricky, however I really think this is the opponent I would love to have in the last 16. If we play anywhere near our best over 2 legs we have the beating of Valencia. My preferred option and hope we draw these.

Just my thoughts on who I would like in preference from top to bottom. So Valencia is the team I would like to have in the last 16. Although whether it turns out that way we shall see!

I would want to avoid Shakhtar, very good side and my dark horses for this competition. Don't really fear any side though, even Real have shown a defensive weakness but their array of attacking talent would cause our leaky defence major problems. Rafael vs Ronaldo would be a great duel to watch though...

Rafael is class, really think he is something special and will only get better with age. (Although lets face it he is pretty **** good now!).

No doubt Real Madrid would be mouth-watering and I think Ronaldo returning to Old Trafford would be great just to see the fans etc.

Although as I want United to have the best chance of going far in this competition, Real Madrid can ideally wait! :P

I was praying for Real Madrid. Now, I pray for something else. I want Ronaldo to score one.

Roberto Martinez has confirmed Angelo Henriquez is joining Wigan on loan for the rest of the season, apparently.

Rated as one of the best talents in South America by South American journalist, made Chile debut before even playing for ManUtd and scored at the age of 18, now he is getting Premier league loan before even playing for ManUtd. Looks like all the praise from one journalist is justified.

Man United sign huge prospect - Angelo Henriquez - Stretty Rant

Far, FAR too early to be saying the praise is justified. He's had under 30 top-flight starts, I mean come on now.

That said, he looks promising. We'll see how he gets on at Wigan. They have a pair of capable strikers working in a good partnership in Di Santo and Kone, so he'll have to take the limited chances he'll get.

Indeed, the only thing that can be said is that he clearly must have impressed enough in reserves that SAF thinks he needs first team Prem experience. The acid test starts now.

Don't mention that name... I literally love this player too much. The ****** work rate he puts in alone is worth the wage he is on :P

Actually I think he will get plenty of chances with Kone set to go to the Africa Cup of Nations in January. Hopefully he can show what he can do to make Kone work for his place when he gets back. Or maybe be a lethal partner with Kone and Di Santo drops to the bench.

Also it is great to see Evra has picked up his form and has been much better so far this season, I think signing Buttner was a good move by Fergie because he couldn't be complacent anymore in performances. Although I think tiredness was also a factor.

Probably I didn't put or use correct words, what I meant was to get a National team cap and a PL loan without even playing for first team (Only ManUtd) he is doing something right and managers know what a talent he is. Just few months or a year back there was no much hype about him, now he might even play in top league. (Not that he has justified his talent or anything like that but there is a reason why South American journalist rates him so highly. ).

Also heard the reason for the loan deal is Kone will be off to African cup, so will miss nearly 6-8 weeks. (didn't check so not 100% sure)

He hardly did well for reserves. He played in very few games for reserves and he was still finding his feet in the game. I have watched almost all the reserve games he has played in. He was decent, not exceptional to warrant a loan deal.

Checked the stats, He started just 4 games and 2 as Subs. Out of 4, 2 starts in U21, 2 as Subs. 1 start in friendly and 1 in MSC.

If the loan deal happens then it must be because of what he did in Chile, not in England. Whatever it is hopefully it will happen. Will be good to see how he does in PL.

If Valencia will be in top form in February vs Madrid, he will break Marcelo's spine, simple as that. The same goes with Nani.

Nani wont be here by than with how things are going with him.And valencia of now hardly takes on his man.All he is doing is waiting for rafael to move forward which i hate.To control rafael we will se ronaldo on the left i guess. Will make sure he thinks twice running forward.
