The Manchester United Thread

Also I don't know much truth there is in this but there have been a few rumours going around saying Fergie already had put in place some kind of deal to bring in Strootman from PSV in the summer.

David Gill: "The next manager needs the required football experience in terms of domestic and European experience."

Moyes could of been Woodward's call, don't think Gill still has the final say to be honest.

Really? I thought they made up and put all the bad stuff behind them?

Not from what I hear. They had a fairly big bust up, which was quite public. Unsure you can ever really fully 'make up' with someone after something like that.

They have since made up, Rooney publicly apologised too. Even his Everton reception is much less hostile then it used to be.

Aye I guess. Still, providing this all goes through it could be a good oppurtunity for a fresh start and just wipe the slate clean. Water under the bridge and all that stuff. Wayne has matured greatly in a short space of time. Though I suspect I'll need to remove my rose-tinted glasses lol

Edit-cleared up by Mike. lol

None of the transfer movements have stopped because he is retiring.

I think both Moyes and Rooney are professional enough to put any lingering resentment behind them and work together. Rooney after all is a world-class player and you don't just sell him like that

Will have to wait and see how sincere it actually was, if it wasn't just a publicity boosting exercise on Rooneys part anyway.

If moyes is going to take over from SAF ive gotta say im abit disappointed. No experience of champions league has got to be a massive factor and he has none. I understand why they might not of gone for mourinho but to overlook someone like klopp?? Arguably the best manager in europe bar heynckes. Wonder what mr guardiola is thinking to himself right now.

What you have to take into account is what DM has done to Everton with so little money. Extremely stable club, got them into Europe on more than one occassion, can pick up absolute gems of players for next to nothing, can build an extremely solid defence (demonstrated by us only losing 6 games all season so far), superb at developing players. Key ingredients in becoming a very successful manager. And imagine what Utds team would be like if he could bring a player like Baines with him aswell or even Fellaini

What you have stated is everything Klopp has done with dortmund and more. He took over dortmund when they were lingering around relegation and built his own squad by sticking to a good financial plan. He bought players within his budget without breaking the bank. I think his only big money signing was reus for around 15 mil i think.

I think it HAS to be Moyes, provided that the clubs principles are held in place. I don't buy the whole trophies and european football thing. He's like an amazing band at your local gig venue, just because they don't have a massive record label behind them(in moyes' situation money) doesn't mean that the talent isn't still there. His loyalty of all things at Everton is the key reason why we should take him on and he should be showed the same loyalty as Fergie was in his first few years.

I have nothing against Moyes, top-class manager. But the environment is totally different at a big club such as Manchester United. You have access to a bigger budget, an excellent scouting network, world-class training facilities and stadium and some of the best players in the world. However, with that comes high expectations from fans, media and others.

At Everton it was like, you did well and you were a hero and everyone praised you for doing so well on a tight budget. You did badly and you could always point to various factors as an excuse. At United, it is a totally different ball game.

However, I feel that with the experience Moyes has in managing the EPL, he will take some time to adapt but he will likely turn out to be a massive success in the long run

I don't think anyone minds if Moyes were to take over eventually. But having bigger name for first 2-3 transition seasons would seem like a reasonable move, as the pressure will be tremendous. Especially with SAF still involved in the club and working in the board.

Have to stop you there. Even when he did well he still had his critics from the idiot brigade who have memories of a gold fish. Agree with the rest though lol. Any jump to a bigger stage will inevitibly have a bedding in period. It's why he's better going to Old Trafford rather than Stamford Bridge. More importantly he'll be given a chance. And he knows how to handle the press aswell. Recently he was in a no-win at Goodison thanks to a vocal minority. I look forward to seeing him force them to eat a shitload of humble pie

If moyes is the frontrunner with his CV then why isnt roberto martinez being talked about?? Okay his wigan team are in a relegation battle but they play good football equally as good as everton, he has been loyal despite interest from some other clubs including liverpool, not to mention he has guided possibly a less than average team to the fa cup final. If were going off people who could be on par with moyes should martinez not be talked about in the same breathe??

I hope United dont go in the same direction as liverpool have because of one managerial mistake.

This is what I'm worried about. I believe he will get better, anyone would with Ferguson sitting in the background ready to give you advice would get better, its just the transition period that will be worrying and annoying. He might not win a trophy for a year or two, but that wont stop the media and some fans claiming that he's the wrong choice and wanting him to be sacked and Mou brought in.
