The Manchester United Thread

He is good, just not £86million good. Aka, He's overrated.

Lets compare him to Ronaldo. Same kind of player and left united at the same age as bale left Tottenham. Taking the last 3 years of their time at the previous club.
Ronaldo, in 155 appearances scored 91 goals.
Bale, in 127 appearances scored 49 goals.
I know that's more games so lets take out Ronaldo's european games.
Ronaldo, in 121 appearances scored 76 goals.

Ronaldo cost less than Bale and yet performed better in less games.

Overpriced maybe. Overrated? I don't know. Last season form makes him world class player. If he can continue to play like that, then he certainly wont be overrated. If you ask me, I think Mata, Cazorla, RVP... are all better players.

Bale isn't overrated.. maybe a little overpriced, but he is worth what you are willing and can afford to pay. Madrid recouped half of it from Ozil so they will be happy with they're business. Remains to be seen how Bale does in Spain though, I am still skeptical!

I like the Bale's transfer, mostly cause I'm curious how Ancelotti will figure it all out. I don't think I've ever seen team playing with two inside forwards before.

Dortmund?

I'm happy because with Bale at Real and Ozil leaving to go to Arsenal, then IMO these events have carved a path for Ronaldo to come home as he has come out and said that he isn't happy as he knows how Ozil plays and what he will do and in ways Ozil was a big part of Ronaldo's game as he could always count on him to go where needed so he can work his magic and they had one **** of a partnership. With Bale coming in Ronnie may become annoyed they sold one world class player who knows his game for another who(may be goob but) is completely overpriced and overrated and their positions and play style may conflict who knows? But maybe in Ronaldos eyes that it is time to come home again. Maybe :p

Madrid might be happy considering they made around 80 million from Higuain and Ozil sale but doubt Madrid fans are happy with this transfer as Ozil was fan favorite.

Barca in 2008-09 season with Messi and Henry playing as inside forwards and Eto'o as CF.

Bayern with Ribery and Robben playing on wings.

I think it's a bit much to label Bale as over-rated. If he hadn't of moved to Real Madrid I don't think anyone would be calling him over-rated. That has come from the price paid.

When I said Madrid will be happy with it, I meant the board of course mate, not the fans, they were obviously very keen Ozil and we all know how frustrating it is to see your club sell a player you rate so highly

Yeah. Anyways the word Overrated is like world class, each to their own with their own definition. IMO he is a world class player but was overpriced. Hopefully he does well for Madrid as he did amazing well to improve so much playing as LB to LW to second striker.

Yeah, I was just saying how Madrid fans and players are not happy with the sale.

Madrid did really well in the window selling Higuain for 40 Million, signing Isco but blew it with selling Ozil IMO.

I'm sure Bale will do well in the long run but I think the first half of the season could be pretty tough for him.

Agreed on the window part with Madrid. They have always had far too many players though Madrid and sign some for the **** of it.. not so much now though. Players like Lassana Diarra in the past for 20 odd million and now he is no where near the potential he had.

Plenty of people were saying it when the media were bending over backwards to give him as many awards as possible.

The media are pillocks that's why. I agree they made him more than he is but they do it with the majority of players when they have one good season.

Bale is "good" and "overrated"? You have got to be having a laugh.

Yeh mate he's a good player. He's just not 100m euros or whatever they paid for him "good". There's quite a few players "better"/offering better value than him (off the top of my head Ill mention ISCO - I know they dont play in the same position but as an example). So he's overrated in this respect.

I wouldn't say Ribbery is typical IF, but yeah, I've forgot Barca.

Just because other players can offer more value for money does not mean Bale is overrated or "good". He is easily the second best winger in the world right now only behind Ronaldo.

One good season and he surpasses everyone else apart from Ronaldo as best winger? Guess when Nani finally stops being so inconsistent, he'd be considered 2nd best winger after just one season.
