The Manchester United Thread

Still need a midfielder this window badly, I'd go and grab Cabaye or Matic... both superb players and would improve it greatly.

Matic was a Ferguson target, not one of Moyes' though. And I think Chelsea would always be favourites for his signature.

Moyes was scouting Juve-Cagliari today. Marchisio/Astori inc. ?

Hope it wasn't for Astori. We don't need a CB unless Vidic and Rio go at the end of the season. Vidic-Evans with Smalling, Jones and Rio providing cover is fine for this season. Michael Keane coming through as well.

Really rate Marchisio though, would be chuffed if we could get him for anything under ?25mil. Would he be willing to leave Juve though, hasn't he been there all his career?

I would love Claudio Marchisio. I can only hope that Moyes' trip amounts to something tangible.

I can see Rio leaving at the end.

Marchisio hasn't been in the team as much this season since Pogba arrived, so not totally unrealistic.

I wouldn't take him over Carrick, Fletcher, Fellaini for sure and we have Jones who did well enough. So NO.

Fellaini who has pretty much done nothing of note since joining and still getting up to speed? Fletcher whose biggest achievement in the past couple of seasons has been to get on the pitch? Jones who is known around the world for the memes made on his retarded faces than the football he plays?

Yeah we can debate about this all day but fact is that Guarin would be a boost to your team and you can't do much better than him if you are serious about about strengthening in January

Yes. We all know what he is capable of.

Fletcher whose biggest achievement in the past couple of seasons has been to get on the pitch?

And instantly looked better than any midfielder we have.

Jones who is known around the world for the memes made on his retarded faces than the football he plays?

For retarded fans he is knows around the world for retarded memes. For anyone with ounce of knowledge about game, he is a superb young player with potential. He looked good as a CM and a CB. What a pathetic point. Not surprising though.

Now actual question, how many times have you watched Inter play this season?

Edit: If you just go on and post about goals/assists and bs stats then don't bother. Just a genuine questions, how many times have you watched him this season to say he is better than Fellaini and others.

Are you about to play the 'I have watched him more than you' card? If you are then don't ... Actually I have watched Inter a fair bit this season. Didn't really keep a close eye on Guarin admittedly but I do feel that he is solid depth for any good team. For United and all their midfield troubles, he could boost your team with his skill-set

This statement from you pretty much says it all really ... A midfielder crocked for 2 seasons comes in and 'instantly' looks better than any midfielder you have. Shows why you should welcome Guarin, this discussion is a bit pointless anyways as Moyes will probably go for someone like Marchiso or Pogba and fall flat on his face. Again

No I call it idiotic to discuss anything with a person who haven't watched him play and still claim that he is better than what we have. He is an absolute retarded player and makes Nani look like Scholes in decision making. He loses possession so much that he makes any player the world a lot less frustrating. For what it is worth, I have watched almost all the Inter games and I follow Inter as my Serie A team. Guarin is as frustrating player as you can get. In a moment you will get a goal or assist from him and his stat looks very good but in the whole game he frustrates you a lot. For what it is worth he is decent in defense too (decent tackler) and very handy player to play as RM but he tries too many hollywood passes and shots from all over the pitch.

Good player if coached into one as he has all the tools but he is not worth it as we don't need those kind of players.

No that shows how good Fletcher is and how determined he is when he looks better than Carrick too.

Oh the last point, just like Jose got served for trying to sign Rooney and told STFU.

Btw we should have signed Nainggolan before he was signed by Roma. Very good midfielder and would have added some steel to our midfield. Once again we missed a player who would have improved us.

A leftback and a quality young midfielder would be most we can hope for as for now. The rest may come, if needed in summer with some departures coming also.

Thing is, we still have great quality. The players need to play up for their standards at first, not hoping for some saviour as "?zil" was for Arsenal.

As a huge United fan I used to worship Roy Keane when he played for us. He was one of the best midfielders in the world at the time. His passion, desire and winning mentality meant he was the obvious choice for captain. Although not regarded by a large number of United fans as the best midfielder and captain in the club's history with many believing Bryan Robson at his peak was still the best. Something I totally agree with by the way. Keane still had hero status when he played for us, something that has dwinded since.

Since Keane left United he has soured all the good work he did for the club by a series of remarks about players and Sir Alex along with some of his anti United remarks he has made whilst working as a pundit on ITV. His tv show with Patrick Viera was shown before Christmas and I have tried to watch it numerous times but found myself getting wound up by Keane's Fergie digs so I kept turning it off. Yesterday, however I finally managed to watch it and Patrick Viera came across really well and by the end Keane did too. I was fscinated by Keane's United XI he came up with. There was no room for Giggs, Scholes, Vidic, Cole, Yorke or Neville.

His ultimate XI
Schmeichel
Parker
Irwin
Pallister
Staam
Beckham
Keane
Ince
Ronaldo
Cantona
Van Nistlerooy.
How would you design a tactic if you had these players? wat style would you play and what player roles would you assign?

And yet, I still wouldnt pay the 18m for Guarin.....

I have to agree with Sunil here. Have you seen the difference fletcher has made, and sorry are you REALLY going to dismiss Jones' performances this season. If so, you're an idiot. Seriously. We are looking for improvements, not more samey players.

Carrick and Fletcher are the minimum level of quality needed in the side. He isnt as good as either for 18m. Next player on the list...

See there you go, you did end up playing the 'I have watched him more than you' card ... You have your own opinion on a player and that's fine with me but don't try to force it onto me with the premises that I don't watch him at all/enough

Your Fletcher point makes no sense at all. If a player who has been crocked for the better part of 2 seasons comes in and starts looking like your best midfielder then that pretty much says it all about the state of your midfield

Rooney was a more plausible target than Fabregas considering he actually wanted to leave and Jose is the sort of manager who most players would like to play for. Going after Fabregas was hilarious in the extreme considering he never wanted to leave and Moyes just isn't a big name to attract players considering his biggest qualifications in getting the United job seem to be being Scottish and managing to somewhat overachieve at a mid-tier club

You totally forget how good Fletcher was then. Because he was one of the best players in our midfield. Scholes, Carrick and Fletcher as a trio pretty much covered all our bases.

I mean if you had watched Guarin a lot, you'd see why he wouldn't be worth chasing at the current price, and why Chelsea have been stalling on him...

I really, REALLY want Chelsea to sign Guarin. Such overrated, well he's not even overrated now, people finally figured out he's mediocre with few nice goals. He doesn't work hard, he's worse tackler than Scholes was and he's generally inconsistent. Why would anyone want to pay even a close to 18m is beyond my reach. I would rather see Cleverley and Fellaini in the squad because while Cleverley is also inconsistent as ****, he somehow fits in our 'fantasy gamestyle' and Fellaini is good footballer who had **** time settling in due United fans ( and me, god I hated that transfer so much), injuries and simply not fitting in the system. If Chelsea got him, then he would probably excel.

Dont get me wrong, I never said Fletcher wasn't any good. All I am saying is despite being crocked for the better part of 2 seasons, he is still your best midfielder which shows the dire state of your midfield

And again I never said Guarin is a great player. There are definitely better players out there. I just feel he would be a boost to either Chelsea or Manchester United considering the dire state of our respective midfields and the skill-set he offers. Plus there aren't too many better midfielders than him available in the January window

In short ...

Would I purchase Guarin in the summer? No

Would I purchase Guarin in January when the state of my midfield is dire and my club is fighting for a Top 4 place or the title? Yes
