The Manchester United Thread

Lets face it though, everyone thought Pirlo was done and dusted. Hardly any other big team was genuinely interested in Vidal

Oh and look again I agree with you on the wage part totally ... Argh was going to type it out but the argument is going around in circles so I prefer to end it. Can't seem to get my point across properly and can't really grasp yours as well. Happy to agree to disagree?

Anyways apparently United are interested in Moreno. Not sure if he is ready for the EPL though ... Very talented player either way

Bayern were favorites to sign Vidal and they offered him better package as per him.

Vidal told Gazzetta dello Sport: "I have never regretted the decision to not join Bayern because I'm convinced that Juve will soon be able to win the Champions League.
"I joined (a) great club, with very strong team-mates and an exceptional coach.
"Antonio Conte has enhanced my qualities and has got me to see football in a different way, a much more professional way. The coach is obsessed by a culture of work."
Vidal is not planning on leaving Juventus anytime soon, with the playmaker adding that his family is happy in Turin, and that the club is in his heart.
"I have received offers from other teams, but my family always plays a decisive role in the decisions I make," he added.
"I see that my wife and my son are very happy in Turin. And then the value of Juventus is enormous.
"I have tattooed three stars and the two Scudetti won with Juventus because Italy is now in my heart, as is this club."
Vidal: I was right to turn down Bayern Munich | FourFourTwo

So Bayern were favorites, Juventus who were promoted from Serie B few years back and with no CL and also the team that finished 7th in Serie A.

You can agree, disagree whatever you want man, wages play important part and how this is disputable is beyond me.

Not even just wages, there's a range of factors.

Yeah, what we also ignored till now is playing time. One best example is Vertonghen. He rejected Arsenal because he wanted guaranteed first team spot and signed for Spurs.

Btw, there are rumors that Inter and Juve are discussing swap deal for Guarin and Vucinic.

Guarin should have been Chelsea player long back but his demands were too much for even Chelsea, he wanted 4.5 Million net wages and his current wages was around 2.5 to 3 Million net. And here we have few (or one) saying wages are not issue with Guarin and ManUtd should have signed him.

Jesus, I NEVER SAID wages DON'T play an important part. All I said was there were OTHER FACTORS involved whereas you give me the impression that you think wages are the SOLE factor. If I am wrong, feel free to tell me that you didn't mean it that way. I am trying to be polite and civil and maybe it's just me, but your smug attitude is ******* me off

Oh my, suddenly wages are the sticking point eh? Those are the type of wages you will have to pay to entice players to come to OT when/if you don't qualify for the CL which obviously is no problem as you have mentioned so many times

So you didn't read the post I specifically said not to quote me if you are trying to put a spin on it.

Also its so obvious who is having that smug attitude with all the cheap shots at the club with backhanded comments for which you were called out by Mike.

So Vidal moved to inferior club that finished 7th? Signed for Conte when the other offer was from the great Van Gaal. Signed for the manager who won **** all by rejecting the manager who was instrumental in Bayern and Barca's history and won almost everything there is to win?

1. Again, proof? Fabregas was never realistic, De Rossi gave a verbal agreement that he wouldn't leave Roma after a certain date, and we came in after that date. I don't recall seeing a single quote in even the gutters of the media that said a player thought, "Davey Moyes, nah you can **** off".

2. I didn't say that in the slightest. You're really gonna quote Chelsea and City in an argument about whether you need CL to attract players? Really? Don't forget, I'm not saying this because it's United, I said it when Chelsea wanted to sack AVB after he lost a game too.

You said it yourself, players look to the future. Players aren't imbeciles and they know that, when City and Chelsea first came about, that with their spending power they'd sooner or later be not only in the CL, but challenging for it. By the same token, players aren't imbeciles and know that a club of our stature and size, with the money we have to invest, aren't going to be in this position for long. Our squad isn't even awful, it lacks quality in a few key areas.

And all I am saying is that lack of CL football will make it harder to entice players which will have to be compensated through higher wages, transfer fees etc. as you have mentioned yourself

But the impression I am getting is ... Oh we didn't qualify for the CL? No problem! We will be back soon enough ... A assertion that blatantly ignores the fact that teams around you will strengthen, potentially going after the same player you will chase and will be able to offer comparative wages and transfer fees as well along with the prospect of working under more reputable managers

So please don't get the impression that CL football is the sole factor in any move. I never meant that. All I said was that lack of CL football will affect your transfer business in a negative way and you don't really have anything (big-name manager, greater spending power than PSG/Chelsea/City) that will fully compensate for that

Sorry but those are the wages commanded by a average player to sign for Chelsea and great Jose. By your point he should be dying to sign for Jose for lesser wages as you have CL football and Jose?

So CL or no CL, player move is decided by wages. You didn't pay so even though you have CL football and Jose, you couldn't sign him.

In which world Guarin is worth around 170K per week pre tax? Not in the world I live in and for the club I support at least.

You found one player out of the many who would have chosen otherwise. *Claps*

Cheap shots?! Jesus ... I actually thought that the discussion was pointless as I believe that you would be in the Top 4 at the end of the season. I can't quite believe you are accusing me of taking cheap shots. I am merely envisioning a potential scenario on which you DON'T qualify for the CL, unlikely imo

Actually he very much wanted the move. It's obviously his agent who went too far ... As soon as Chelsea heard his wage demands, we totally backed off and put our sights solely on Matic and secured him soon after. Not exactly giving him enough time to push for the move eh?

Sorry if I interpreted your intentions incorrectly.

1 player? I remember mentioning few in the last page or 2.

Juve signed these players after finishing 7th.
Pirlo
Lichtsteiner
Vucinic
Elia
Vidal

All the players were highly rated and were chased by other clubs.

Bayern finished 4th in 2006-07 (so in Europa league), in 2007-08 when they were not in CL they signed
Ribery
Klose
Toni (was one of the best CF at that time)

I don't even have to list PSG, City and Chelsea players

He wanted to move not only to Chelsea, to any club that offers him the wages. Not something very specific to Chelsea and Jose.

He wanted big wages, clubs backed off. He went to Inter owner and asked for a better contract to stay at Inter. So much for desperately wanting to move eh? All he wanted was big wages.

Yeah...except he's not going to say "turning down Bayern was worst decision I've ever made and I hate my life" while he's still in Juventus.

Yeah except what he said was 100% what he felt and he proved with the tattoos on his arm for each Serie A win..

"I see that my wife and my son are very happy in Turin. And then the value of Juventus is enormous. I have tattooed three stars and the two Scudetti won with Juventus because Italy is now in my heart, as is this club."

Btw, you missed the point. Point was Vidal rejecting move to Bayern, not whether he is happy or not with his decision.

Just wanted to share this awesome moment from my FM14 save with you guys :)
