The Manchester United Thread

Im confident that wont be the case, and LVG would of worked a lot on this during the week. Even Allardyce said West Ham will be lucky to get a point, and would settle for a draw.

Smalling only just got injured, rojo/thorpe is a new as it gets as a partnership and that's just big sam been big sam they'll come with their tails up but hopefully our attackers will be too much for them.

Can see it being more QPR than Leicester tbh. I agree with LVG was a freak result and our defence has not been to bad, the defence as a team has been shocking.

“I don't think the players have [seen a different side to me this week],” the boss told reporters at the Aon Training Complex. “I don't think my players are robots - they are human beings and human beings make errors. I am also a manager who always wants to evaluate and discuss things. That's the way I do things. I have done it, this week is no different.“It's happened, it's about overcoming things. It’s not a regular occurrence - when you see our figures in the Premier League, apart from this [Leicester] match, then we are defending well. The average is conceding less than one goal I think and we have scored a lot of goals. I think we are fifth or sixth [in this situation]. I see it differently to a lot of journalists.”"But because of the loss you are now questioning me. If we won then it would have been different. We will overcome things - the season lasts a long time.”

Reports saying that Mc Nair will also be called upto the 1st team for Saturday after impressing LVG and Joyce/Giggs for the Reserves this season with his partnership with Thorpe.

If he gets chances ahead of Tom Thorpe then he should leave for his own career. When all the CBs are injured and still don't get chances then it's better to leave to save his career.

Both Telegraph and Guardian running with Ronaldo stories.

Manchester United will have to pay at least £140m to bring Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford with Real Madrid reportedly ready to cash in on a move that will also alert Chelsea, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, and other European heavyweights.
It is understood that around 18 months ago Ronaldo and his advisors spoke to the majority of Europe’s blue riband clubs regarding potentially leaving Real. In the event he signed a fresh deal last September with the Spanish giants that made him the world’s highest paid footballer.
Ronaldo earns €21m a year, which is £16.4m or £315,384 a week, with Real paying all of his 52% tax. He costs the Spanish club £34.1m a season. Given his pay equates to £693,844 gross under the UK’s 45% tax bracket for high earners, Ronaldo would have to agree a sizeable pay cut on his basic terms if he were to return to United.
United could further boost his take-home pay by offering him a lucrative image rights deal and other sizeable commercial incentives beyond the normal bonuses awarded for successful on-field performance.
The £140m cost for United – or any prospective suitor – would be the transfer fee of around £60m and his basic wage, should he agree to around £380,000 a-week as a gross figure, which on a four-year contract amounts to £79m.

Lots of rumours flying around that Mata will be used as make-weight in a deal for Miranda. Utterly ridiculous, if true :\ Especially for a 30 year old defender.

Just for the sake of argument, and to satisfy my personal curiosity: If you could spend 150M punds next transfer window, because I find it hard to believe that you will go towards 200 or above, would you patch up the defence or buy Ronaldo back?

Ideally? Do both.. Flog off Chris Smalling and maybe sell Robin van Persie to add to transfer budget. Get in CB and Ronaldo. Ain't gonna happen, but still, a guy can dream.. >_>

Ronaldo costs around 60 Million so we will have 90 million to address the defense.

Yeah, people are taking his base salary multiplied by number of years into the budget consideration too, although only the first year salary should be counted.

I think the point of his question is that Ronaldo is rumoured to costs £150m, so he's asking if you would rather spend that much on one of the world's best players or put it into the defence. Kinda defeats the point if you change Ronaldo's price so you can do both :P

He said if we can spend 150 Million in the next transfer window ;) For that his wages shouldn't be part of it.

Btw, I would still put money to bring Ronaldo back than signing defenders. Defenders can be signed in Jan window, at least half decent ones like Shawcross, Vlaar.
