The Manchester United Thread

Yeah, people are taking his base salary multiplied by number of years into the budget consideration too, although only the first year salary should be counted.

I don't think even the first year salary should be counted when we are discussing spending based on transfer fee. So Ronaldo + defenders :P

[h=1]Robin van Persie reveals Manchester United’s clear-the-air meeting[/h]
Robin van Persie has revealed that Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United squad held a clear-the-air meeting following their dramatic 5-3 defeat at Leicester City last weekend.
The dutch striker said the confrontational hour-long inquest focused on the defensive errors which allowed Nigel Pearson’s newly promoted side to score four goals in the final 28 minutes at King Power Stadium.
“It shouldn’t be possible [to lose like we did],” the Dutchman told Fox Sports News. “But it still happened. We have to deal with it. We had a proper look at it next day. Sometimes it was a bit confronting and it was a long meeting. One hour [or] something.
“We went from there, started again this week [and have put] a couple of really good sessions in. Everyone feels ready to face West Ham.”
Van Persie headed United into the lead against Leicester from a Radamel Falcao cross and says that the pair and Wayne Rooney have been discussing how to make their three-man partnership work. But he admits everyone must play better if United are to make themselves title contenders once again.
“When you look at the defensive mistakes, it starts somewhere else,” he added. “That’s where we looked at as well. It’s not just the one mistake which happens. There’s a mistake before the mistake and before the mistake, maybe positional wise. Everyone knows where we have to improve.”

Highly doubt Ronaldo will come for that price, what reason does Perez have to sell him anyway? It will be extremely expensive to do business with him for their most prized asset, Ronaldo dismissed it yesterday, yet the story is still being discussed? Why?

There is no real need for Ronaldo in comparison to a CM like Strootman or a couple of quality CB's.

Just for the sake of argument, and to satisfy my personal curiosity: If you could spend 150M punds next transfer window, because I find it hard to believe that you will go towards 200 or above, would you patch up the defence or buy Ronaldo back?

Both. The Ronaldo 140m includes wages.

I would take Ronaldo and a CB over Strootman and a CB, move to 4-3-3, and then you are only looking for strong CM cover, pick a player like Schniederlin.

Just imagine the **** storm Perez would find himself in, if he dares sell Ronaldo.

You can't really underestimate a player of Ronaldo's quality. If he comes, United will probably win the league even if the don't sign anyone else. He is good enough to cover up any weaknesses in the squad

Not only that there is no magic shiny toy at the moment to replace Ronaldo with for Perez, so just don't see where this story has any truth behind it.

Not really, a balanced team is far more effective than what one man can be.

It's like saying ohhh you know Portugal will just win everything because Ronaldo's in their team.

Actually there is. His name is Sterling. as for the sorty. United have been trying for two years to put together a package. That's the easy bit, making Madrid sell is the hard bit.

Also we would be balanced with Ronaldo.

Blind/Carrick

Herrera/New squad CM Di Maria/Rooney

Mata/Di Maria Ronaldo/Januzaj

RVP/Falcao

I was going to answer this with a question. Would you sell Ronaldo for Sterling? But after some minor consideration, I realised the we are talking about Perez, the FIFA coach.
Gotta catch'em all right?

I like how you leave out the defence.

Also are you kidding me? Sterling? The guy who's had a few good seasons to replace the best player in the world would appease the fans?

Well, there are some rumors Real are interested in Sterling. And Perez doesn't give a **** what someone thinks of him, if he thinks (or someone plants that idea in his head) that Real can still be the best even without Ronaldo, and if he actually tries to prove it, then United have a chance to get him back. Ronaldo in top for for next 3-4 years? Where can i sign?

Except United can actually put a half decent supporting cast around Ronaldo unlike Portugal. Plus I don't see how getting Ronaldo would prevent 1-2 solid CBs like Shawcross and Vlaar from coming in

**** Mike, I'll have some of whatever you're smoking.

Reus will replace Ronaldo if ever they sell him. They might even try to tempt Aguero.

Yeah who needs Ronaldo when we have Valencia, Young or strikers who can't offer any pace upfront.

We have signed very good CMs. Blind, Herrera and Di Maria/Rooney can play in midfield 3 and Ronaldo, Di Maria as a wide forward.

When you get a chance to sign player like Ronaldo you should just sign him. Will never ever get a chance to sign player of his quality once missed.

Just 1 more day and we will be watching Di Maria and Shaw teaming up on the left side of the field. Can't wait to watch them play. At least this season I'm looking forward to watch our games as we are scoring goals and playing some decent football.

And you re forgetting that Ronaldo is not that happy at Real anymore, and getting worse.

I hate this 150 mill figure being thrown around by the media trying to sensationalize the story more than it needs to be. We are already the proverbial "bad guy" for spending as much as we did in the last window and now they are trying to make us look worse but the reality of it is that we are going to be buying Ronnie for no more than 85 mill realistically which is not really a bad price for the best player in the world. Plus he is one of our greatest ever players and a massive fan favorite.

If he returns (and he has said many times h would like to finish his career at united one day) our attack would be the best in the world. His wages will be massive yes but they aren't transfer money. I imagine we have 2 different accounts (over simplified I know) for wages and transfer so one shouldn't affect the other. Lets not forget the amount of money we would get from simply having Ronnie on the books from endorsements and deals from Nike to shirt sales and more future investors like DHL, Chevrolet etc.
So I say bring back Ronaldo because while he may be worth the price of every club in league 2 and break the bank of 99% of all clubs on the planet it won't break our bank so to speak. And to top it off we will still have enough to buy a DC if need be. But I want to see if we can fix our defensive errors before we start spending money on a CB when we may not necessarily need one if we can fix he current problems.
