The Manchester United Thread

Well, United got only one CD because Blackett took his chance. I think that counts as giving a chance to a youngster. About Thorpe and McNair, I agree, they only got the chance because everyone else was injured. We'll see in January if United will bring CD or will Thorpe and McNair will become backups.

Hard to judge on one game at home to inferior opposition. Good shift by those two but you have to remember that even Josh McEachran dominated in the CL against teams when he was 17 and now he can't even get a game for Vitesse in the Dutch League

Not saying they will be world beaters, but they will have their chance, and it's on them to take it. Like I said, if they don't take it, United will buy someone. Reason why United didn't get second CD in the summer is Blackett taking his chance. Will McNair and Thorpe do the same? I can only hope.

And god, what is with the fans over here? One bad game, and suddenly Rojo has atrocious positioning, and Rafael needs to be booted out. Oh, and de Gea sucks. One good game, and suddenly McNair is miles better than Blackett.

FFS, People over here need to learn some patience and moderation.

Indeed. Still De Gea WTF he was thinking for their goal?!

Didn't McEachran not make it mainly due to issues with his mentality or personal life which effected him?

Not his actual ability at the time because it was there for all to see, his progress just totally shunted.

If we defend as a team like we did today, we will win a lot more than we will lose. Oh and keep 11 players on :P

Well yes, but we were also doing pretty dangerous things in the last 10-15 minutes such as instead of trying to keep possession/waste time De Gea kept hoofing the ball aimlessly upfield only to obviously gift it to WH players enabling them to keep pressure on. Currently I have a sore throat from screaming about it at the TV (btw thankfully Im flying over for the Chelski match).

Seriously, what the **** is this thread. You let democracy run free and its full of bollocks.

Time to return to the dictatorship: start making measured posts or I might just get bored and delete your comments (6)

But seriously, cut the nonsense out.

OH and Mcnair was great. Such composure for a first game, and what a clearance.

Not really: there are lots of factors with him.

McNair was sensational, can't praise him enough. I'm sure anyone from the youth team can occasionaly step up and have a great game, but the kind of confidence he showed, I'm almost certain he can repeat it consistently. Such a high tension game and he was unflappable.

He is still very raw, but the composure was scarily good. He will have ups and downs, but if he can keep that composure, hes got a very promising future.

Not sure how chances they will get in all honestly not because United sold their soul or anything dumb like that but because you are only involved in two competitions

Partly due to Chelsea. Partly due to him. The constant managerial changes didn't help his development although at times, he did look like he lacked the fight and drive to push through. Honestly, when I see him play now compared to when he was 17, absolutely no difference at all. Hasn't progressed which is a shame considering his obvious talent

Bad decision making, deserves criticism for that. 3 minutes later, Adrian made the same error twice >_> Sadly enough, it couldn't get converted into a goal for us..

With us and our injury crisis that keeps happening? I'd be very surprised if they don't get atleast a couple more chances..

Well, there's a two ways. One is like Januzaj, you impress for reserves. He is a good couple of levels ahead of reserve football, but his problems is he tries to hard, but that's for another discussion. Other one is if multiple players get injured, like McNair got his chance. So when they play well, you'll always have in mind "Oh, young McNair had a good game, I'll give him another one in case of a similar injury problem or in a cup game. Maybe even I'll bring him on as a sub".

Thats the problem though, how many times will you suffer an injury crisis on this scale that forces you to use McNair. How many times will United be comfortably winning games this season to give these youngsters a run out? How many times will United get an easy cup game to give these players a chance?

Personally I just don't see McNair and Thorpe being used more than 2-3 times this season and hence, shouldn't be counted in the category of first team players from the academy

Unless LVG has replaced his doctors and physios with the medical staff from Arsenal, I highly doubt that will happen
