Also got say yes we have spent a lot and bought in 6 new players, but this is far from the team I think LVG wants to build. Can see it completely changing again next season.

What?! If you spend £150m++ and still want to completely change the team next summer then something is very very wrong

Reckon people are being too harsh on Mata. Wasn't his best performance today but he has been one of United's best players this year. It's not like the rest of the team are playing out of their skins atm

Wrong how? Obviously It will take more then 150m to get the team that finished 7th to compete for silverware again. Especially since the competition isn't ******* around with improving their teams.

Most of the new signings are looking great, its the Ferguson/Moyes guys that are dragging the team down atm. Rafael, De Gea and Rooney are quality, everyone else is expendable in my book. Top CB is a must, at the very least. As well as new striker If RVP goes. Which he should, because he's been **** last year, he's **** this year and he's been absolute ***** in the World Cup apart from Spain game. And there's more depth needed as well if they make the Champions League.

So one striker, one CB and a few squad players suddenly equates to changing the whole team??

Also which of the competition other than Chelsea have actually strengthened significantly since last season?

Yeah, when he says 5-6 players, 3 of those will be first team, the rest will be squad. and im betting one of the 5-6 will actually be falcao
Striker, CB, CM, RB, and actually more than likely 2 promoted youth

Also this thread has reached a new low. Non united fans arguing with each other over the United squad?!

GTFO

Needs some nostalgia, remember how good we had it under fergie, the man who would even the most average players look half decent. Always had the sense we'd be okay even after defeats or draws that felt like defeats.

Nostalgia is great.

What did you think it equates to? Actually changing 22 people?

No, TheatreOfDreams said that LVG will change the whole team next season, I merely disagreed because I felt they only need to fill a few holes in the squad which you strangely agree with as well so not sure why you are jumping on me

Oh and just to clarify, changing the whole team doesn't actually mean changing 22 players but changing the core of the team entirely which isn't needed

Personally feel it's more or less the same under LVG, most people were panicking like **** this time last season when Moyes was in charge. LVG looks like he is complete control which does inspire confidence I imagine whereas Moyes looked like he was in disarray most of the time

As a united fan it's not even close, now before people jump on me i'm not slagging this season off or LVG.

But under fergie it was different especially between 92-03 and 06-11 just special times.

But hey whenever you think this thread is at a low point look on the brightside and be thankful it isn't the Chelsea thread :p

I wouldn't know about that but I certainly feel it's a marked improvement from Moyes' who looked completely baffled half the time

Mr.Hypothetical, how do you know what I would and wouldn't do?

I'm not going to blame Mata for having little impact against a team like West Brom... it's expected. I'd of stuck with keeping 2 strikers up front for this game, at least that way their defence may have been stretched more, therefore allowing more opportunities for Mata.

How would I know? I'm not guessing, I'm posting what had already happened.

Yeah, how about turning WBA players into duds so that Mata can unleash his superpowers? The excuses you make for few players is cringeworthy so are his meltdowns against few players.

Btw who was the second striker you are talking about? Yesterday's Mata played in his best position, behind a single striker and did **** all. If Mata can't play well when we are playing bad then it's his problem. At least players like Rooney have balls and step up when the chips are down.

ManCity signed a good Sagna (RB), Mangala(CB), Fernando (DM) and Lampard (CM). All are very good players.
Arsenal signed Chambers (Very good young CB), Debuchy (RB), Ospina (Excellent 2nd GK), Sanchez (World class player), Welbeck (Very good CF)
Spurs already signed so many players last season and needed time to gel. They made some very interesting signings.
Liverpool spent around 120 Million.

So yeah we had to spend when we lost core of our team and sold most of the squad players. We have spent so much money but still needs 1 or 2 players to complete the team and most importantly need time to play as a team.

LVG not happy with Shaw and Rafa and Jones.

I must say i was expecting shaw to be slated. He was in no mans land for their first goal and generally lacked positioning sense but also not one of his many crosses were successful.

My point about the crossing seems to be borne out by the stats: apparently we had 42 crosses only 7 of which reached a utd player!

Not sure why Shaw got so much abuse. He was decent. Yes he lost the duel for the first goal but you would expect some other player to cover for him. Ideally that ball should have been contested by a midfielder but since there was none, Shaw went for it.
We gave them just 2 chances whole game and they scored from both. It happens.

At the end though, I would say only Chelsea and City have squads that are significantly stronger than United's. Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham squads have some real quality in certain areas but also huge holes in others just like United's

I agree though. Time needed for United squad to settle down and the results should soon start to flow. LVG needs to engineer results against the big boys in the next 3 games and that might give the club someone momentum. Wouldn't be surprised to see United get a win against Chelsea in all honestly

2 squad players, a new centreback and a loan from an MLS club isn't really "strengthening significantly". Especially as they sold Negredo.

Neither is Liverpool selling one of the world's best centre forwards then spunking the money on a bunch of mid tier players "strengthening significantly".

Arsenal, tbf, did definitely make some big upgrades.
