The Manchester United Thread

At the end though, I would say only Chelsea and City have squads that are significantly stronger than United's. Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham squads have some real quality in certain areas but also huge holes in others just like United's

I agree though. Time needed for United squad to settle down and the results should soon start to flow. LVG needs to engineer results against the big boys in the next 3 games and that might give the club someone momentum. Wouldn't be surprised to see United get a win against Chelsea in all honestly

That's hindsight. When Liverpool made those signings many thought they have improved their team. Same with Arsenal when they signed Sanchez, Welbeck.

2 squad players, a new centreback and a loan from an MLS club isn't really "strengthening significantly". Especially as they sold Negredo.

Neither is Liverpool selling one of the world's best centre forwards then spunking the money on a bunch of mid tier players "strengthening significantly".

Arsenal, tbf, did definitely make some big upgrades.

City had superb first 11 so they made couple of excellent squad additions. That's strengthening. How significant? That depends.

For Liverpool they had no choice but to lose the CF and there isn't a player available to replace him. So they did a good job in upgrading their whole team.

Cit.

Yeah but at the end, you actually strengthened more than them this summer and your squads are of roughly similar quality. Some might even say United have a better squad than Arsenal or Liverpool assuming everyone stays fully fit. Anyways that's not the point, but I just don't think their is a need to 'fully change the team' as TheatreofDreams said. Add 3-5 players fill a few holes sure

Or maybe TheatreofDreams just had a bad choice of words

Yeah I don't think we need so many changes. Just time to gel and also 2 players at max for first team,

Get a CB, maybe a CM, and some backup for Rafael. And depending on RvP, maybe a backup striker - retain Henriquez, maybe?

After what Van Gaal said yesterday I think we will sign a physically stronger players.

Yeah CB is a must as our CBs are very injury prone. CM/DM to play alongside or inplace of Blind. If we switch to 4-3-3 then Rooney, Falcao, Wilson are decent options IMO. We have enough quality there. Our next transfers plan should focus fully on CM and CB.

What do you think will happen to loanees Powell,Zaha,Henriquez,Anderson,Nani Etc. Also players like Fletcher,Carrick,RVP,Mata,Smalling,Evans,Young,Fellaini? Still think there is a long way to get or squad sorted.

You mean delusional Liverpool fans thought they improved their team. Pretty much everybody else thought otherwise.

And Arsenal definitely hugely improved their squad, its just that, as per usual, they've got slaughtered by injuries.

And signng in the wrong positions :)

Moreno is an improvement. Markovic and Can are young players with potential, RB is an improvement, Lovern is an improvement, Lallana is an improvement. They lost Suarez but they did well in other areas.

I think Henriquez loan has right to buy clause and it's around 2 Million I think. For sure he is a goner, shame though. Hopefully Powell gets a look in. Anderson's contract is expiring.

What I would love to see:
I think Nani, Zaha to come back and become part of the team.
Fletcher: Gone. He is done IMO.
Carrick: Contract is expiring and we should retain him.
RVP: Should be gone if he continues like this and sign Falcao.
Mata: Stay and hopefully he goes back to his Chelsea's form.
Smalling: Stay
Evans: Stay but depends on the player we sign.
Young: Gone plz.
Fellaini: Stay. IMO he is a very good addition for the squad and the abuse he gets is unreal.

We should be aggressive in offloading all the deadwood and injury prone players and sign a reliable and good back up players.

Also there are few U21 players who should be promoted for squad places.

Yeah just been reading they are keen on taking up Henriquez buy out clause :(

Think Nani,Zaha,Powell should all get a shot and would be good squad players. And Nani form is returning.
Yeah Fletcher has had it imo.
Should defo retain Carrick for 1 more year!
Rvp should be sold, he looks nothing like his former self, defo buy Falcao.
TBF Mata has been good mostly should defo keep.
I would keep Evans and Smalling for rotation.
Should sell Young and Happy Anderson contract is expiring!
Fellaini is a great option and offers us something different.

Yes should be looking to offload for sure some players, and promote but not sure who!

Also forgot about Hernandez, I would keep if we sell RVP and are in CL. Depends if happy being on bench.

I would keep Anderson for another 3 years so he can get his testimonial.

I think Hernandez deal has a right to buy for 22 Million Euro.

Also from U21 there are few players who might be in the squad. Wilson, Rothwell, Pearson, Periera should play few mins IMO. Not league games but at least league cup games next season as I don't think they will play any mins this season.

Suppose that's good deal for Hernandez TBF. Yeah agree with them youth players. What do you reckon for Rafa cover, lot of talk about Darmien lately. Also no LVG rates Janko.

Not related to us but cant believe how many players are available on Bosmans in Jan-

Khedira
Marcelo
Chiellini
Yarmalenko
Konoplyanka
M Villa
Andre Ayew
Suso
Sergi Roberto
Adrien Rabiot
De Jong
Kramer

Some good players there.

No idea man. I though Varela would be a good cover but might be it's an overkill of promoting so many young players.

Fellaini was very good today. Hardly gave ball away, scored a goal, won the ball, won all his aerial duels and even played some nice passes.

Seconded. He helped pin back West Brom's defence at times by being the reference point. When balls were being pinged back into the final thirds of West Brom's penalty area, he was there, which helped us get the Blind goal.

More of the same please Fellaini.
