The Manchester United Thread

Latest rumours are that we've dropped our interest in Hummels, and focussing on Garay, while Arsenal still remain interested. Sounds ridiculous, considering Garay just joined his new club and won't be cheap, and Hummels is so, so much better. If true, however, kinda disappointing to be frank, actually;; Considering the kind of season Dortmund are having, and the likelihood of Reus leaving next year, we really should go all out for Hummels.

We need a good defender, who can generally stay fit, and Hummels ticks all those boxes. Two of Evans, Jones and Smalling are always injured at any given point of time, and our defence is continuing to be makeshift, with no stable CB pair. Probably can get by for now, but we definitely need a new CB in the summer, especially when we're back in the CL.

Hummels isnt great at staying fit. Neither is Vlaar actually (to zzeezzy). No doubt he is more talented than Garay, but Garay has a good injury record

Decent draw i guess and i knew smalling/rojo would look more stable as i think rojo/jones just won't work imo one or the other with someone else.

Di Maria was bit **** and januzaj was very good.

Aside from a couple of very nice passes, i found Januzaj very frustrating. He seems to have caught the same disease that Nani, Young and Valencia all suffered from.

Before moving to the club, and/or in their early days at the club all of those players seemed capable of beating a man with ease, no fear, pure confidence and fantastic pace/skill.

Now Januzaj (much like Nani and especially Valencia) appears to line an opponent up and then just stands still, offering little dummies and half movements trying to get the defender to commit. No quality premier league (or champions league) defender will fall for this rubbish, you need to run at them and get them moving in order to coax a mistake out of them. Luke Shaw was so close to beating Ivanovic for pace in the early stages and you could tell Ivanovic was worried by this, yet neither Januzaj or Shaw attempted to beat their man down that flank again, whether it was Ivanovic or Willian. They got the ball in very good positions and then most of the time took the safe possession retaining option of going back to Blind or the CB's. It wasn't until the dying moments of the game when Di Maria had a spell down that flank that we got any joy, eventually getting the free kick/red card/goal from the sort of play Luke Shaw had suggested was a very good option in the opening exchanges.

I hope Januzaj doesn't fall into the same pattern as the wide men who have gone before him. He did show some nice moments when cutting inside from the right flank, but overall i found his performance infuriating based on what he managed when running with the ball last year.

THAT. I always found that extremely frustrating when watching Valencia. Inspite of having the pace, as soon as he came near any opponent, he would give it sideways or back. Absolutely no confidence to take on the man and try to beat him, which is essential for a wide attacking player. I'm hoping that Januzaj won't fall prey to that. It's almost as if they're expecting to lose the ball, and don't want to take the blame for it. You lose the ball more often when you try to take them on, but you get more joy out of it, if you succeed too..

Hummels is not injured week-in, week-out. He has injuries, yes, but he isn't exactly injury-prone. Taking Garay over Hummels (assuming both are available) would be stupid, just because of a better injury record. Especially since Hummels is not injury-prone.

But anyhow, what the **** happens in training these days? Our players are picking up way too many knocks for my liking..

When it comes to Hummels, I think the injury records of Dortmund players needs to be taken with a grain of salt. I mean, its basically Vietnam war in there, nearly every season. Last time they had all of their best players together on the pitch was probably 4-1 vs. Madrid in CL semis... two years ago.

Unless they have Freddie Kruger and Mr. Bean leading the medical teams, the reasonable explanation is that Klopp's intense style of football, while very entertaining to watch, takes its toll on players. Especially since they don't do much in terms of squad rotation.

Hummels is not available and won't be. At least he looks like a rare players who stick to their words. Not sure on Garay too, we should have signed him from Benfica. IMO we should do a proper scouting and sign unknown players like Arsenal did with Kos, Roma with Benatia.

I don't know.. If Dortmund continue to play the way they are, he might become available. It won't be January, but we should atleast have a try next summer, and test the waters. That, and the exodus of players which inevitably happens with Dortmund (Reus and Gundogan?), could prompt him to make a move.

But I guess even with that, it won't be easy, as every club which can afford him will want him.

But signing a relatively unknown player who can do well for the team would be good too. That was how we got Vidic, iirc;;

Yeah but 1 season out of CL wouldn't make him to think about leaving, it's like saying just because we finished outside top 4 none of the top talents would join us.

Dortmund are a formidable team and as long as Klopp is the manager there is a high chance most of the key players will stay,

Completely agree, but I'd hazard a guess that it is tactical instruction to retain possession. He's only trying to impress Van Gaal at this stage and get a regular run in the team, and his wasteful shots from ridiculous angles earlier this season suggest he is still very confident - he may have been told to cut it out.

+1 What can you expect from a young lad who wants to get regular games and knows every opportunity he gets is important.

I honestly thought he was quite good on Sunday, big improvement from the West Brom game, he may be a bit wasteful but at least he tries to make things happen, we would all soon be moaning if he turned into the Valencia mind-set.

Angelo Henriquez with four goals for Dinamo Zagreb in the Croatian Cup against Opatija. That's 11 goals in 12 matches for him, I believe.

Scored 4 goals coming on from bench.

If silva is out and we can somehow keep aguero/yaya quiet then lets ******* have it.

“Is Nani the best player in the Portuguese league?” Yes, according to a poll from Portuguese newspaper Record, where the Manchester United winger gathered a 71% vote in his favor.

On loan at Sporting currently, Nani has 5 goals and 2 assists in the 1022 minutes he has played so far.

Almost 65% of the readers believe that Sporting are firm favorites to clinch the title this season with Nani in red hot form.

Quite a feat to achieve as the Portuguese league consists of amazing players such as Bahrimi, Quaresma, Slimani, Tello, Casemiro, Danilo, Alex Sandro, Gaitan, Jackson Martinez, Aboubakar, Luisao, Enzo Perez etc.

Good to see Nani doing well.

It's about 5 steps down from the Premier League, honestly, he's not that good and I hope he doesn't come back.... he's always disappointing and has the odd good game or moment of magic.

And yet you love players like William Carvalho who plays in the same league.

Tbf it's still early in the season. Then again Nani is showing what he can do when he gets a run of games so maybe this is what he needs to revitalize his career and finally fulfill his amazing potential

That's different. Don't know how, but Zezy will find the reason why.

It's different because I never even said I loved William Cavalho.

Just because I may of made a case to sign him back in the summer doesn't mean I said I love him.

Do you really want Nani back if he has one good season at Sporting? Seriously how many seasons has he been disappointing for us before finally letting him leave... on loan.
